most critics of heroine x villain ships are unknowingly performative, recycling patriarchal ideas of female goodness without ever questioning the cage. it is a masterclass in devastating subservience disguised as feminist critique. you can mute all the faux-progressive language about romanticising toxic relationships, and their arguments would still reek of gut-churning fear and conformity. i feel bad for them. truly. but punishing other women for stepping outside the rigid lines of acceptable womanhood is dystopian. fandoms are not surveillance states. no woman needs permission to enjoy the transgressive. no woman needs to beg forgiveness for enjoying her favourite stories.

Actually, the more I think of it the more I'm convinced that if I lived in Sauron's world, I would probably be the worst villain you ever saw. Not only I would join him, not only I'd say "yeah sure share your powers with me, let's make great things together", but the man would have to constantly keep me in check and would regularly take aspirins because boy would I make his head hurt, wrecking havocs everywhere.

He would think Morgoth was a soft puppy compared to me. We'd be constantly fight because I'd call him a pussy for doing so little with so much! And I'd never let him do something as stupid as putting almost all his power in one object let me tell you. Or actually I would, and I would steal the ring and keep it for myself 😈

All that to say, don't make presumptions about people (women) you don't know on the Internet, just because they find a villain hot and ship him with the good girl. We don't all want to fix the villains or save the world. We're not all good.

PS: this is NOT related to a post that was recently published here. I already responded to that one, and I know it was not meant to sound condescending like that. Also I don't sub-reblog or whatever it's called when people diss other people's takes in their back thinking they won't see it. It's just a general snarky observation based on the fact that women are constantly being lectured about liking cool evil male characters, while when men do it it's cricket.

Galadriel going to the light... for now

This is such a relief and a sign of good direction of the next season. After the general post-season press and especially the producers' House Of R interview, everything was pointing to Galadriel resolving her inner battle with darkness. That would be a disservice to the character, because as many have explained, it's the most interesting part of her and what makes her into a full, flawed, unapologetic heroine. The fact that the creators suggest there will be some push and pull in her journey to the light -no pun intended- delights me!
