Hey folks,

I don't do this terribly often and I try to restrain it to things that involve family or close friends.

My very sweet sister-in-law, who lives in Scotland, has had her hair-styling business affected by a criminally-started fire, and I am trying to help her get back on her feet. Bekah is a neurodivergent little gem, and she's always cheerful and generous to her family and friends.

Basically, the building where she rents a hair-styling chair was burnt down by criminals and obviously, #becauseinsurance, they're not covering her supplies. Additionally, they will have to wait until the criminal investigation is resolved before anyone gets any sort of support. This could take months of years.

So in the meantime, she is losing her entire livelihood. I am trying to help out this woman-owned small business get back on its feet, and seriously, ANY donation, no matter how small, would be incredibly appreciated.

Jaskier relucrantly sticks around at Kaer Morhen for the rest of winter but everyone is pretty much indifferent to him (he's just a prissy bard to most) and vice versa (cause, yes he's still kinda pissed at Geralt).

Then one day during traing:

Jaskier, finally fed up, from the side, in a snippy tone: You know, I could be wrong since I'm just a silly bard... but maybe somebody should teach the princess how to properly controll her voice first.

Everybody: *looking at him in confusion*...

Everybidy: *slowly realising Jaskier might be right and damn, why didn't they think of that themselves and sooner*

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED ON NOVEMBER 5TH AND WHY IS TUMBLR FREAKING OUT I AM SO CONFUSED

November 5th 2020 was one of the most absurd days in internet history, and frankly, in overall history.

So the world is trembling over the US election right. The votes are being counted, everyone is on edge and even over here in Europe, people are holding their breath because whoever wins this election could change the earth as we know it. Around that time, the third wave of Covid hits (I think), and sends us all back into lockdown.

Then, on Nov 5 specifically, there's this moment where Nevada's votes could make all the difference (that's why sometimes, Nevada pops up in the shitposts too). And Nevada is slooooow. The results aren't coming in, and everyone is constantly checking for updates. Also apparently, Georgia and Pennsylvania are turning blue (democratic) for the first time in ages (or ever? don't know, I'm not that familiar with US history) but anyway, it's unprecedented.

On the same day, the romantic relationship of Dean Winchester and Castiel (Destiel), two characters of the show Supernatural, becomes canon after 15 seasons...but in a really weird way that is dissatisfying to most of the fandom (I think. Not in that fandom either). Now the fandom in itself is huge though, one of the biggest fandoms on Tumblr ever, and there's this sort of massive Spn renaissance happening that just consists of...complete disbelief lol.

On top of that, rumors of Putin's resignation arise, being widely spread through the Supernatural fandom's Destiel shitposts. This, again, could change world history if true.

And at this point, everyone's just going crazy-town banana pants.

Because of the sheer absurdity.

AND I LOVE IT.

Because one person summed it up in the following sentence that went viral and honestly explains best what the heck happened on that day:

And this sentence MAKES ME COME ALIVE. Because DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY FACTORS HAD TO WEIGH IN FOR SOMEONE TO UNDERSTAND THIS REFERENCE????????????????

It's a meme consisting of at least 5 other events to explain the 5th of November feeling. The peak comedy being that this is the first sentence of "My Immortal", the worst fanfiction ever written, implying that November 5 2020 reads exactly like that.

It's a cultural treasure, that's what this is.

I speak English.

I live in Japan and only speak English, and maybe 20 Japanese phrases.

I grew up in a world of “go back to where you came from. This is America. We speak English here.”

Not once has any individual in Japan told me, “This is Japan. We speak Japanese. Go back to where you came from.” Not one time.

Individuals give up their seats in waiting rooms, on trains, or on busses here when they see me pregnant or carrying my children. No words, just a simple standing and gesturing for me to sit in their place.

I can barely thank them in their native language.

Masks were worn here before a global pandemic ever surfaced. Before Covid-19 was circulating rampantly, the Japanese people wore masks to protect their communities.

Not themselves.

Me.

They didn’t want ME to get their sniffles, and they expect me to not want to give them mine.

It’s not political. It’s not an infringement of rights. It’s a matter of, “Maybe it’s just allergies, but I dont know that for sure, so I wear a mask to keep from spitting on you when I speak.”

Freedom is a beautiful thing, yes.

But collectivism isn’t a threat to freedom, y'all.

Caring about someone else’s reality doesn’t make you weak, and for the love of God it doesn’t make you a “sheeple.”

Community is a beautiful thing.

So is compassion.

So is empathy.

I love my country dearly, hear that. But in so many ways, I KNOW we can do better.

See, here’s a weird medical fact: black women are more likely to get breast cancer and nobody knows why. It’s a medical mystery. Now, I want you to do a fun exercise: tell me the last time you saw a breast cancer awareness campaign that included black women. Go on, I’ll wait. Speaking as someone active with the cause whose aunt is even more active with the cause, here’s my answer: In eight years of working for awareness across four states, I have never seen a single black woman in any breast cancer campaign. Ever.

Black women are also more likely to die of breast cancer because they’re less likely to catch it early. That’s not genetics, that’s math. The sooner you begin treatment, the better your prognosis. Black women are less likely to know how to do self-exams and because of the socioeconomic divide, less likely to see an OB/GYN annually. And they’re ignored by awareness campaigns.

Tell your black friends. And spread this like wildfire. Because they are more at risk than you are.
