Riverdale, A Series of Unfortunate Events... Driving MAU via Millennial Nostalgia
Hi friends, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted, but I have decided to take up my pen (keyboard) again due to a series of very fortunate events. As you may already know, two new shows have recently been released, and have been much #trending on social media- A Series of Unfortunate Events (a Netflix original), and of course, the much hyped Riverdale. After succumbing to the temptation of the release of new shows based on TWO of my childhood favorite series, I re-signed up with Netflix, and can’t help wondering how many millennials did the same.
In the media and tech sector, MAU (monthly active users) is king. Could looking back into the childhoods of now-salaried millennials be the key to maintaining and driving MAU growth? After all, tapping into existing resources, and turning already successful text/comic publications into motion series is a lot more efficient than constantly trying to generate new ideas. As long as producers can stay true to the spirit of the text and deliver new dimensions to old classics, these motion spin-offs are bound to be successful.
In the words of Don Draper, “[Nostalgia is] a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone... it's a time machine... It takes us to a place where we ache to go again... It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved. “
Thank for taking me back, @netflix and the @thecworiginals.
