As far as i'm concerned every Ukrainian abd Crimean Tatar who was forced to leave territories russia took without severe resistance(so there weren't extensive bombing campaigns, etc) was ethnically displaced.

They took the territorry by force, and made it very clear they have no place for those ethnicities, created conditions that left no choice other than leave and assimilate. That's what's called ethnic displacement.

Asgore is the patriarch of the underground, a big (literally) white man who's in so much pain, literally a king. He's the kind of person that stories always focus on and care about to the exclusion of everyone else. How many stories have you seen that treat the King, the Husband, thr Father as the most important person in a story? It's soooo deliberate that we're presented with this tragic man who's burdened with power, and the narrative (and Toriel) have no respect for him. It is an exicit, stated plot point that him wallowing in his misery has done nothing but prolong the suffering of every monster in the Underground. Everyone in game talk about how great and nice he is but all he's done as king since Asriel and Chara died is sit in his empty house waiting for kids to kill.

Undertale is so great because it questions who's important and worth saving. Its a game where you talk to random encounters and help them with their problems. The point is to reject normative notions of whose perspective matters and say that you need to take responsibility for the power you have over others.

i noticed! someone shared footage of it in ACDS. i like the new visuals, NOW I think we're definitely meant to read the scene as us planting a piece of ourselves into Noelle ("LOVE will find its way to the girl"). I'm still like. against the idea of retroactively changing a piece of your art based on fan reception, ESPECIALLY an episodically released one where you can simply clear things up in the next installment. but now that i think about it, if anything this strengthens the SA imagery/implications of the original rose visuals, because how else would you get "planting a piece of you in someone else" otherwise. this revision does make what's happening literally in terms of game progression more clear, though. less allegorical. i dig it!

kris seeing through their hand in the shadow crystal. all the "severed hand"/"guy who wakes up without a hand" references in the new chapters. berdly having his entire arm paralyzed in the hospital if you didn't spare him in chapter 2. toby fox talking about his chronic wrist pain often preventing him from coding and playing. learning to navigate his disability and how working in a team makes developing games possible for him, even if they don't perfectly represent his vision. the piano as THEE representation of kris' freedom and individuality outside of their role as The Cage. the option to tell susie that Kris will keep playing if she learns to play piano too...

regaining their own agency always implies pain. one of kris' most shocking acts of rebellion against our direct input (when we try to make them say they'll never play piano again) has them bite their own hand so hard it scares susie. kris has a knife that is completely outside of our control. due to the nature of our control(lers) over kris' body, we can only play the piano as if they were one handed. ACTing, kris' signature move in battle, is done by raising their hand and pointing. susie is a character defined by her ability to resist our control and go directly against both our will and fate itself.
