An ex-colleague of mine was complaining to me the other day about the ai problem in her students' papers, and I told her, "Just make your students hand-write them in class. Easy." She looked at me like I was insane and tried to explain how that would never work, but I just said,"That's how we did it for a thousand years. The invention of word processors doesn't erase all that."

To me it seems obvious. Readings are done out of class, handwritten essays are done within it. No more ai papers.

I give all my exams in blue books. A lot of my colleagues have started doing the same. The struggle to interpret student handwritting is worth avoiding the whole plagerism academic protocol nonsense.

I'm gonna share this with my two cents (no one asked but here goes).

Women. Most of you do not need makeup at all. Most of what you need is just confidence. That's it. And even if you do like how makeup looks on you, literally just remember a little goes a long way. I mean that in the most honest way I can say it, and also because I've seen what caked on makeup looks like. It often does not look great.

And most of you, are not ugly. You are comparing yourself to people with layers of makeup, often done professionally with filters and image editing. So long as you shower and keep yourself well groomed, most men will give you the same attention you give them. Unless they are super superficial. In which case, fuck them.

Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!

For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!

Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!

This guy is my new hero. I LOVE learning about native food plants that just grow everywhere without human help.

The database is a little clunky to use (especially on a phone), but still loads of excellent information.

Here’s their website - Food Plant Solutions - and they can use volunteers! And $ of course. What they really need help with is connecting with NGOs/groups on the ground already working in countries, to get them access to the database. They also need help from formally trained agronomists, people good with website stuff, and people good at marketing / getting the word out about their project.
