Remember when "Touya is a Todoroki " was just a popular fan theory and we all used to go playfully and very intellectually crazy over it, showing all the signs and scenes and discussing what could've possibly happened in the family and stuff....
......yeah.....
It was built from the start imo, the fans were just really good at noticing foreshadowing that didn't make sense because it lacked all the context.
It was first emphasized in the arc where they kidnap Bakugo where it was focused on Dabi at the time talking to Shouto and being ominous and how we have been told from day one that quirks can be inherited from your parents. (when four year old deku and his mom as asking about why he still didn't have a quirk and being asked what quirks deku's parents had)
It just didn't make sense for the manga to go deep into the Dabi is a todoroki aspect until all of the themes of the story textually supported and enhanced the meaning behind the reason Horikoshi would make a random villain related to one of the main cast.
It was just something what was slowly built-up in the manga that just made sense contextually.
(ngl I was just tired of the Dabi is a Todoroki that I enjoyed any fic that didn't make that Dabi is Touya, I just think I was just tired of the over saturation of the content with lack of textually confirmation that I just wanted him to not be related but that's before the shrine chapter)
First time doing a PMV/AMV kind of stuff...
(Audio from Snapcube "Sonic Riders: Real-Time Fandub Games")
yall are saying you didn’t know he’d be sexy?? is that what you’re saying? look me in the eyes and tell me that’s not the sexiest masked man ever, look at that top panel AND TELL ME THAT DOESN’T GET YOU FERAL.
Overhaul gaslit, dehumanized, and repeatedly murdered Eri in a way that physically and mentally scarred her to the point where she couldn’t even remember how to smile.
Eri choosing to learn to control her quirk to give the hero who saved her and has cared for her like a brother is not the same as what Overhaul did to her for three fucking years.
Hopped on real quick to comment on the big news!!
DYNAMIGHT!
You know what, fucking say what you want - I like that shit. Katsuki is a high tier fanboy, that’s one of the things I absolutely love about his character, and he desperately wants All Might to look at him the same way that he looks at Deku, and honestly bro? The dude is a stick of dynamite and I am here for it.
If Kirishima can make his hero name Red Riot after Crimson Riot and not get ridiculed, then I think Dynamight is a great hero name to pay homage to everything All Might means to Katsuki. All Might is the whole reason he even wanted to become a hero!
Well done Horikoshi, I know you’re probably receiving all the backlash right now but, I am in love with your Dynamight boy 💥
You get ‘em, you fucking feral fanboy!! I’m rooting for your mean ass!! 😈🧡
Can the BNHA fandom just, idk, chill ?
Every new manga spoiler that comes out y'all just grRRRE AARF ARRF it up. N although I do too, I think some(if not MOST) need to just sit back and b r e a t h e
No what Endevour did in the past ain't right
Yes it's okay to try and redeem yourself once you've learned your lesson
No atonement does not erase the wrongs of the past
Yes atonement is good and a step towards betterment

Yes Best Jeanist was right, although he could've worded it better, his point was right
No using 1 case of domestic abuse to summarize the entire hero society is not all too reliable (although this 1 case reeeeaaaaaalllyyyyyyyy does make people question what other heroes are like)
No Mirio coming in outta nowhere doesn't make the whole arc bad
No Deku is NOT an abuser apologist
Yes it's okay to support people's atonement
No that doesn't mean supporting the previous wrongs done
Yes Deku is trying to be a good friend to his atm very very very traumatised bestie and a good hero

Remember,
B r e a t h e
Everyone is complaining about Bakugo's hero name reveal. I personally think that 'Dynamight' fits way better than 'Ground Zero.' Why? It represents Bakugo in 2 ways, 1.) His quirk, and 2.) His passion for All Might. I don't know where this 'Ground Zero' came from, and I don't see where it represents Bakugo.
I think that little of you guys forget that Bakugo is just a closeted fan. I think his Hero Name reveals that passion, not just he's a angry, pompous person.
A name can show everything in a person, so I vote that The Bombing hero: 'Dynamight' stays.
Also, some 15 year old named their hero name 'cant stop sparkling' jesus calm your tits down
Guess who finished a thing, shading stuff was fun
Oh God my lettering is trash I'm sorry
Reblogging this trash fire of headcanon comic I made over a year ago I think, in celebration of the dabi reveal(tbh I forgot I made this), I hate how my headcanon is partially right I guess? Something weirdly disappointing about knowing dabi wanted to be a hero?
Let's be all honest...
We should all blame all might, making being a hero look so cool and accessable to the public.
Like not a lot of kids are lining up to be police officers irl because we know how fucked up THAT system is for the most part.
But with heroes and hero society it is mired with glamour and showman ship. Like sure probably people were like that before all might but we're they as influential as All Might??? Dude in one of the OVA or filler episodes it's implied Cementoss as a kid was inspired by all might and it's implied that all might has been doing this for way too long.
Stain was right but was also wrong it isn't the individual Heroes who are "fake" bad apples that are poisoning the barrel of heroes, it's the philosophy all might instilled implicitly that ONE person can carry a society and there is always someone STRONGER than you so you have to figure out a trick or a style of heroing for yourself to stand out.
If Pro-Hero as a Career Choice wasn't glamorous or profitable most people would think twice about trying to become heroes, but because of how all might was irresponsibly short-sighted;you can get half-hearted people in a job that should have one focus and one utility which is to rescue people and detain criminals, the title of "hero" has so many connotations that it shouldn't have been the name of that career.
We probably all know its all might's fault as the audience, but that doesn't mean he is a bad guy.
In a what if scenario I doubt the world would be as peaceful as it was. Sure their probably more crime and violence but it won't have completed corrupted individuals where it was society's fault. In that world; I doubt dabi and shigaraki's pasts would be much different but I would like to think when shigaraki was on the street there wouldn't be as much of that disgusting bystander effect or endeavor didn't look for a wife to have eugenics babies with.
Where people didn't have a top hero ranking system to pit heroes at eachother for clout, I would like to think without all might's dumbass influence the Destro Gang gained enough power to do civil war earlier and actually got the masses to critically think about quirk restrictions, I would assume the war would be atleast less brutal than what we have, but there would be more progress in quirk-related relationships and dynamics.
But if we had that we won't have the story of My Hero Academia, hopefully we get a resolution and change that is satisfying. To be honest deku isn't the most compelling main character, heck he isn't even the most compelling character in his story but I would like to see him find development outside of "kIcK eViL pEOpLes bUTt aND SaVe PeOpLe" and see him tackle the societal issues, not just Shoto and his family, Not just Hawks, Not just the LoV but DEKU the apparently main character, sure his issues with being quirkless was part of it but it also stemmed from Hero society's failings and I hope he recognizes that and not do some bullshit "bad people bad"
Can we have your opinion on the fifty or so points of discourse that have sprung up since the chapter leaked? Sooth my heartburnt head with your Colgate cool takes!
well all right then, I’m just going to run through some of these very quickly. and standard disclaimer, these are just my own opinions, blah blah blah, everyone is welcome to disagree on any or all points.
“Best Jeanist is an abuse apologist” - nah fam he’s just mad that Dabi is deliberately using his admittedly-fucked-up family history in order to attack not just Endeavor, but all of hero society.
“okay but hero society is bad and needs to be taken down anyway” -- well okay, but whether you think that’s true or not, the fact remains that Jeanist isn’t condoning Endeavor’s abuse here, he’s simply pointing out the hole in Dabi’s argument. that, and also, two wrongs don’t make a right. and the destabilization of society as a whole, coming right on the heels of a devastating attack in which the heroes were decimated and god knows how many civilians died as well, is not a great situation any way you slice it, and is going to lead to more harm in the immediate aftermath; Jeanist is not wrong about that.
“the other heroes watching the confrontation aren’t being sympathetic enough to Dabi’s tale of woe” -- the tale of woe in which he bragged about plotting to kill Shouto and Natsuo?? also, he set their friend on fire. he tried to set all of them on fire. people generally don’t like people who try to set them on fire, just as a rule.
“Shouto shouldn’t be taking Endeavor’s side” – Touya. tried. to set him and his friends on fire. plus, again, there’s that whole “plotting to kill me and my sibling” thing. but mostly it’s the “trying to murder everyone in the immediate vicinity” thing which is really forcing him to step in here and take action, guys.
“boooo, Mirio” -- what are you all talking about Mirio is great.
“what if Mirio is really Toga” -- or, hear me out, what if Mirio is really Mirio. I mean okay look, I’m not trying to bash on anyone’s theories. but from what I’ve seen, this particular notion mostly seems to revolve around people just really not wanting it to be Mirio. which is kind of rude to poor Mirio. plus, couldn’t we say this about any character pretty much any given week. what if Jeanist is secretly Toga. what if Burnin’ is Toga. I guess if nothing else, this theory is ripe for Among Us jokes.
“Eri getting control of her quirk makes her too overpowered” -- okay but it’s still not a magic “fix everything” switch, on account of she has to recharge it in between uses, which takes months. so that’s going to keep it in check imo.
“Eri is being used like a pawn/puppet by the heroes” -- Eri wants to use her power to help people. she spent her whole young life believing she was cursed, and it’s only recently that people have helped her to understand that that’s not true and that her power can be a gift. she is a sweet and loving child who wants to help others, especially the people who have sacrificed in order to help her, like Mirio. Eri restoring Mirio’s quirk is a development which gives her more agency, not less, because it means she’s finally learning to control her abilities. and she’s not being manipulated or taken advantage of in any way you guys, it’s clearly her choice.
“Horikoshi did Hadou dirty” -- actually agree here lol. but to be fair, she’s not the only one who got injured in this battle; everyone there has pretty much gotten their shit wrecked by this point, except for Iida. and I’m sure she’ll be fine, Horikoshi’s not going to kill or permanently injure her in any way. but I would have liked to see at least one female character still participating in the battle here and that’s pretty much out now, so boo to that.
“it’s bad writing, Jan” -- while you are by no means obligated to like any of these developments, disagreeing with something that happens in the manga does not automatically make it bad writing. also fwiw, I’m kind of boggled by the fact that not one month ago there was discourse about the Touya reveal being bad writing specifically because it was too predictable and everyone saw it coming. and now the fact that the Mirio twist came as a surprise to everyone somehow means that it’s bad writing as well. I’m just saying, lol; Horikoshi just can’t win here apparently.
“everyone just needs to chill” - actually this one’s not wrong! anyway so I guess I’ll end it on that.
Dabi’s Missing Heart
So I’ve been seeing two main responses to Dabi’s character as portrayed in BNHA 292, both of which I feel touch on a very surface understanding of his character and role in the story despite seeming like opposite takes.
Take #1:
Dabi is an unfeeling monster created to show the redeemability of Shigaraki and Enji in contrast with his true eeeevil villainy! He will never be redeemed!
Take #2:
Dabi is a sweet softy who did nothing wrong! He will never be redeemed because of this chapter which is so out-of-character!
Note how they both have the same endpoint. I’m not actually gonna address the redemption question much because I can’t fathom what this panel foreshadows if not Touya’s salvation (alive):
I’m not looking to debate this either; I’m just putting it here because I know it’ll come up if I don’t.
Instead, I wanna address Dabi’s character. He’s my favorite, and I’ve been asked a few different times whether I enjoy him as a villain or as an uwu poor baby, and my answer is always both.
Dabi is a villain. This chapter’s rampage is, in my opinion, not remotely out of character for him. But neither is it the summation of his character, and he surely is not meant to make Enji look good by comparison.
So, who is Dabi?
Dabi is kind of a flaming jerk, and that’s why I like him. He’s an abuse victim who gets to be angry and crass and sharp. He pushes people away because he doesn’t want to open up to them and get burned (heh). He’s just like Shouto in that, except with a dose of murder.
Believe it or not, this is a very realistic response to abuse, and very common too. It’s good to see that representation. If the writing was indeed just “he’s bad get rid of him,” well, that would of course be a terrible representation. But seeing a mean victim get redeemed? Now that’s some good sh*t I’m here for.
If you want a sweethearted, misunderstood soft victim, there is one in MHA, and that’s Shigaraki. Dabi is not these things, but that does not mean he’s not a victim or that he’s somehow an unfeeling monster.
You see, Shigaraki is a heart character. Dabi’s the mind. (Heart and mind characters are a literary pattern that is utilized in literature across the globe; it’s not an eastern/western cultural thing. It has its roots in alchemy.) The problem is that you can’t have a heart without a mind nor a mind without a heart. If you lack one, you’re missing half the picture, and you won’t accomplish anything.
I wonder if best jeanist is just a way to frame an alternative perspective on dabi/touya reveal just like how fuyumi, natsuo and Shoto had all different perspectives on endeavor post-kyushu fight.
There are multiple perspectives on this Dabi reveal for the destruction of hero society; LoV's empathetic side the ones most hurt by hero society, The Heroes' hypocrisy and self-righteousness(I blame all might for this tbh), the civilian's view on heroes and villains, I would say the hero students but that's still being fleshed out imo.
Like can't-ya-see kun is how the general civilian population percieves this revelation while best jeanist is the perspective of the privileged heroes who wanna have the status quo.We see uraraka and toga's perspectives and seeing how even uraraka can't understand toga; why would best jeanist understand and see dabi/touya's revelation as anything more than villain propaganda rather than a cry for help? Best jeanist graduated from UA which implies he is very privileged to an extent because that's like an elite school.
Even if we don't have the full translation I doubt horikoshi will just victim blame dabi/touya for no plot relevant reason? Idk man this is why I wait for the plot to progress before judging.
MY HERO ACADEMIA SPOILERS
Horikoshi, probably
OC
Something about the three characters of; Dabi, Endeavor and Hawks made me think,
They are all morally grey but all differently.
In my perspective,
Dabi was morally pure kid stained and corrupted by his father's dark ambitions-he succumbed to (valid)hatred also destruction,
Endeavor was in the darkness due his goal and one-track mindset,(All might's retirement + Shoto gave him light to see a path out of it) Now he is trying to atone for the darkness he created, he isn't trying to erase his darkness but stop being a harmful jackass he was.
Hawks someone with noble goals but have been unfortunately been surrounded by darkness(his dad, hero commish, his hero endeavor), no matter how noble/good his goals or intentions if his actions are dubious and unheroic-the acts are still unheroic.
They all are grey characters but all for different reasons.
You can argue: dabi went from good to bad, endeavor bad to good and Hawks good to bad, but that's hyper simplifying it.
Dabi from the beginning was Touya who it seems was aligned with good. Endeavor, I would say is morally wrong in the beginning even if say they he wasn't as obsessive before Shoto was born, he prioritized his ambition over morality and ethics of other people's emotion. Hawks seems to be good alignment as a child he instinctively saved people in a crash which is pretty selfless.
These blurring of the moral lines makes all three characters more compelling.
Is Dabi justified in commiting murders and saying it's endeavor's flame? No, however it is a product of Endeavor's influence on him but Dabi still has responsibility over his actions. His actions are understandable because you can empathize but its still morally reprehensible.
Is Endeavour redeemed because he started to be a better person? No, his past actions are his and even in the manga he acknowledges doesn't deserve forgiveness but still strives to better. His past actions need retribution especially if he is going onward to be a better person.
Is Hawks a cruel black-hearted cold blooded murderer for killing Twice? No, he wholeheartedly believed twice could have started over if he went and "did his time" but he did choose to kill twice "for the greater good"-a taboo heroes don't do. In a bigger picture what he did made sense, however it's still hurtful and cruel how he manipulated and murdered Twice knowing full well what he gone through and the person Twice is.
I don't know where I was going but!
I think these three really embody major themes of BNHA's hero society. Yes the LoV represent the RESULT of hero society's short comings; however there is also the heroes' side where people like Endeavor and Hawks are NOT the paragon of goodness but they can climb as "Pro-Heroes" they are the other side of the coin: the CAUSE. The WHY is the main theme of BNHA it's the quirk society as a whole as the first chapter of hero academia said "People are not born equal".
You can love/hate specific characters from you own reasons and interpretations, however to try to reduce these three characters into "good" "bad" "justified" "irredeemable" really undervalues the care put into them as characters. This alse reduces the manga's writing into a simple bad vs good story when it's not, it is a story about people who are often than not very messy and complicated.
I just wanted to appreciate the character development these specific three have had and been thinking about. I love all three of them at the same time for different reasons.
Reeee I can't remember or find the dabi meta where he represents victory for LoV cuz all missions he is on succeed.
something something the villains have won, especially in the ideological battle.
No matter even if somehow shigaraki dies (I doubt it) and the heroes subdue all the LoV and the destro gang (I forgot the new name).
Dabi/Touya (in universe, because LoV backstory shown us the readers that hero society isn't as it's cracked up to be) clearly shown how hero society needs to be changed, more over scrapped. Just by existing Dabi made this war unwinnable from the heroes side in my opinion.
