Taking a moment to plug my latest fascination! It's called Epic, it tells the story of Odysseus following the sacking of Troy and his quest to return to Ithaca. It's heartbreaking. The way it's been done really hammers in the tragedy if the whole tale.
The Oddessy (the book the musical is based on) starts with Telemachus (Odysseus' son) being visited by Athena and being told his father will return after being away for 20 years but he's trapped. And then it cuts to Odysseus' escape from Calypso's island and he arrives at the palace of a kind who he tells his story to and then you jump back in time to the end of the war and the start of his journey.
Which I like, but, when it follows Odysseus chronologically, you're filled with anxiety, nervousness, hope, sorrow, at each event that happens to him because he's trying his best and the narrative has doomed him. And from there you follow his tumultuous mind.
Also their representation of the gods is amazing, Hermes is a little bisexual creature and I love him
