The first of those who would become the Fae were some of the elves Melkor caught. The first he ensnared (after they fled from Oromë), were twisted by magic and the tortures they endured. The same tortures that created the orcs or the broken elves who escaped. Only the ones who would become the Fae did not break. They were simply transformed, bent from their original purpose/form, but not broken or corrupted as the first Orcs were.

These first Fae were dark, wild beings. Their fear had betrayed them and they were angry for it and their anger twisted them, making them darker. These first elves that were captured would become the Unseelie. Their leader would come to be known as Mab who had fled Oromë in fear, leaving behind her sister who would not flee.

The next Fae would be those who Morgoth captured in later times. Elves who had wandered too far. One of these was an elf who an elf who was captured after having escaped the kinslaying at Alqualondë. He had gone to the shores of Middle-earth, but was captured once there, stolen away. He would defy his captors far longer than most, though even he was close to breaking.

Another elf who was captured later, with a group of his people, was the older brother of Oropher. He was considered a great leader. He showed promise and his parents thought that one day he would be a great king (he was, at that time, their only child). Some time they spent in torment, their captors meaning to break them and build them up anew, to make of them something corrupt, just as they had attempted with those who would become the Unseelie, as well as those with whom the methods had succeeded (the Orcs).

But the older brother of Oropher would not be broken, and eventually, he spoke rebellion to the others. He inspired them––including the Fae who had endured so much already, who was not yet broken though he was on the brink. Had not this golden-haired elf stood up when he did, no doubt he would have been lost (already he was far darker than any of them, just borderline of being Unseelie). The hope of all who had heard him was reborn or strengthened, and even that Fae on the brink swore his allegiance to him and would become the most loyal of all his people, even his Lieutenant in later days.

They all took on other names in this time, to hide their true names which held power over them. Their leader took on the name Oberon, and his Lieutenant took on the name Puck. (Oberon’s One also took a different name as well and called herself Titania.)

One day when they were sent out to labor on something, they seized their moment. They took up what weapons they could and those who were strong in it wielded the magic that had become part of them. Though some were slain, many escaped. These who escaped of Oberon’s people and any who chose to follow him would become the Seelie.

They were found, at some point, by Rog and by others and thus Oberon gathered his people and swore themselves––in a manner of speaking––to Turgon. When Turgon took his people and built Gondolin, the Seelie followed. While on paper Penlod was the Lord of two houses, this is not the case. In truth, Oberon was the Lord of the Pillar (not Snow, for the Fae bitterly hate the cold as they are extremely susceptible to it as well as iron, both of which can seriously injure and even kill them), but Turgon had agreed to keep the Fae––the people who had escaped the clutches of Morgoth––as hidden as his city.

The Fae forged many friendships with those of Gondolin. They worked and played among them. Some even married among them. 

When the city was betrayed and fell, many died with the elves of Gondolin as well.

Oberon, though grievously wounded by iron, was brought out of the city against his wishes by Puck who would hate Morgoth, his armies, and, in fact, himself for some time that he was unable to save their home or their friends. Puck, however, had brought his own Lord and Lady away from the city, and also the youngest child of Rog and Hendunarië who he had found lost amidst the fray.

The Fae then found an underground forest, and built their realm, withdrawing from the world in their heartache and grief over Gondolin and all who had been lost.

They do not truly emerge again until quite some time later.

As she sits, Na’Elle takes but a moment to allow for the sheer weight of her journey to weigh upon her shoulders; to let everything hit. She was so far from what she knew from home, so far from all of those she had loved; in the midst of a land she knew little of, much less the language - and oh, she felt so very foreign. 

Thus, when she accepted the blanket - oh so thankful for its coming warmth - her lengthy ears had dipped downward and her silvery eyes had clouded with weighty thoughts. In the very least she was safe for the time being - 

“Lembas-” She parroted, as if learning every aspect of life over again; listening silently as it is explained to her - its properties, its purpose and once knowledgeable, she nods; “Oh…please. I had some raspberries some days ago - the past few days have been far too…” Dangerous, really; “….I haven’t been able to hunt…” 

“Some days ago?” Haldir repeats in turn and his expression and tone are enough to draw concerned looks from his brothers, their brows furrowed. “You must be starving…”

Taking another bit of mallorn-wrapped lembas bread from the provisions, he offers that to her next, as well as a gentle hand on her shoulder.

“Whatever troubles you have endured to this point, there is no need to brave them alone any longer. You find yourself among friends now, and few evils there are that may weather the strength of stout hearts gathered together in companionship.”

A gentle squeeze and he releases her shoulder, once more turning to his brothers, more instructions given to them. Orophin is the first to react, reaching back into the crate upon which he leans. He takes from it a waterskin and passes it to Haldir who wordlessly offers it also to Na’elle.

The old Fae laughs outright at that, merriment in his eyes, his colors bright with his amusement.

“Right y’ are there! I can see ye’ve a sharp mind. S’no wonder t’ me that th’ King ‘n’ Queen’ve taken an int’rest in thee.”

She’s unable to remember when she could last feel the sensation in her fingers, their fixation around her staff having near frozen in place as the rains above continued to hammer down, saturating the earth beneath her booted feet. She’s felt as if she had walked around the same segment of forest a hundred times over and could not seem to find the main pathway - not after she had accidentally deviated to remain unseen.

Pale eyes glance down briefly, brows furrowing - were those… another set of boot prints next to her own? Curious- her ears were suddenly far more intent on scanning her surroundings, wondering if the footprints belonged to someone merely passing through or if she was being followed. One could never tell - one could never be too safe, either; 

“Look, if you’re following me, know that I would sooner burn down the entirety of his forest, or freeze it entirely over, than I would give in to any idle threats.” She called out to her immediate surroundings, cold grip tightening upon her staff.

He had watched the strange little elf from afar, curious of her and of her reason for wandering through these woods, and certainly when so far from the main way. Does she not know of the dangers that lurk for those who turn their step from the safety of the path?

He had not intended to approach her, merely to observe. After all, with whom might he converse without bringing with him that miserable cold, that sense of dread? 

Yet, she has called upon him––and how interesting that she would notice him at all!––and he will not continue to unintentionally frighten her. Stepping from the shadows of the trees, he keeps his hands out to his sides, palms open and visible to her, to show that he is unarmed.

“I assure you that such threats are unnecessary. I mean you no harm. I merely saw that you had left the path and wondered at your reason.”

He felt naught short of vulgar, the sheer throbbing within his head disallowing him to yet open his eyes, the sense of nausea gripping him naught short of hideous. Dizziness gripped tightly, mind reeling. 

Hearing other voices sparked fear within his bones, heart-rate picking up terribly. Were they friend or foe? Brows furrowed, attempting to process the  words uttered exactly - his mind slow, his understanding taking some time to catch up. 

“I don’t remember-” He whispered, voice hoarse and quiet; hand still gently touching through the blades of grass in the hope of further grounding. It would aid in bringing back his memory, too - if he simply came to be more at ease. 

The hand to his arm pauses its motions, attempting to force eyes open though ended up only witnessing blurs and smears of colour. 

“You - - lit the fire–?” So they were friendly enough to care for him aside- “…You’ve done more than most would - - thank you-”

“Oh, don’t thank me. Moth saw to your care. I’m only here to ensure that whatever strange beings she decides to stop and aid in her night-wanderings don’t cause her any harm.”

As though Moth weren’t perfectly capable of ensuring that herself considering her skill with magic. [ Still. It wouldn’t do for anyone to think that she was concerned. ]

But Moth says nothing to contradict her. She merely shakes her head, ever-patient with the younger Fae.

“We did as we would for any other traveler we might have chanced across in such a state as we found you, so long as they did not enter into the woods with ill-intent. I am only glad that we found you ere it grew dark…”
