@neovidar
I feel like I read a book about this in school. I feel like this was required reading. I also feel like my local children's museum has an entire fucking exhibit on this.
John Oliver gets it, as usual. AI Slop is one of the best episodes of Last Week Tonight I've seen so far. Gen AI is theft. Those who use it are not authors or artists, they're grifters profiting from real creatives.
They’re calling me every slur under the sun over on twitter for this post
Gotta admit the headline is a banger.
rolling stone: every person in a position of power in the US collaborated together to do this to you. the media sold you out for profit and aided in the indoctrination of millions to right-wing xenophobia via instilling a fake crime panic. Biden sold you out by putting his own selfish ambitions before the wellbeing of 330~ million citizens by running for a 2nd term and failing to undo any of the cruelty and pain done to people who were hurt under Trump and in some cases making the pain worse. the rest of the Democratic party sold you out by falling in line, normalizing Trumps rhetoric and becoming Republican Lite. Federal law enforcement sold you out via Merrick Garland doing absolutely positively nothing to prosecute right-wing extremism, falsely adding to the Trump narrative that it wasn't all that serious. and most of all, corporations sold you out as they always do, by working together to falsely inflate prices over the last 4 years, causing the economy to appear far worse to the (yet again) unwitting public who have been totally devastated and in some cases made homeless. this also dooms the Democrats on the economy for the foreseeable future. hold these institutions accountable.
you, a person completely immune to being radicalized through propaganda: the american people really dropped the ball here
what a beautiful post to summarize my hatred towards "this is the voters' fault" posts.
maybe i like my tech a little bit inconvenient
maybe i like pulling out my debit card instead of using apple pay. maybe i like untangling my wired headphones. maybe i like typing something into the search bar instead of using siri or whatever. maybe i like curating my own social media feeds over an algorithm. i just don’t think everything has to be perfectly streamlined and efficient i like it when things feel tethered to the real world.
Just a reminder, kids:
This is Superman. This is what he stands for. This is what he has always meant.
And politics have always been in comics. Don’t lie and pretend otherwise.
people are absolutely EVIL about the boundaries of "picky eaters". no, they do not have to try it. yes, they can know they don't like it without having eaten it before. no, they probably have not suddenly grown a taste for the food they've said they hate. no, they probably are not going to like it in the Special Way This One Place Cooks It. yes, you are being a bad friend if you try to "trick" them into eating it anyway
#all this being said I’m still going to silently judge my picky eater friends for their weakness
cool, that wasn't necessary to add at all! Just a quick note that people who are picky enough to have a reputation of being a "picky eater" often have undiagnosed Sensory Processing Disorder and severely picky eaters often have Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. SPD is shit to live with (I'd know <3) & ARFID is literally an eating disorder. Even then, totally 100% neurotypical picky eaters are still not harming you in any way.
There is nothing wrong with being a picky eater. Not eating things that you dislike is not a weakness, it's a sensible personal boundary.

Hilarious that it was an accident, but the point still holds in my essay on naming. Part of the reason it’s hilarious is because it’s a name that English speakers would never expect a wizard to have—but it could be exactly the name one would expect a wizard to have in a different linguistic tradition. It could be a fierce name; it could be a beautiful name; it could be an ugly name; it could be a terrifying name. It all depends on the language it comes from and what speakers of that language expect.
She’s using it effectively
Great and now there's this. Theres truly no room for an ounce of complacency this is a direct attack on queer creatives.
Here's a link to the whole thread for more context
Mastercard's new policy unfairly targets the adult content industry, making sex workers more vulnerable, especially Black trans women. It mu
Hey, so the ACLU is gearing up to take this on if yall have room to support this org, it would mean a lot to me (and other adult queer creators). As always, word of mouth is really important here too so reblogs are greatly appreciated.
Steam's search tool already automatically filters out content that is primarily/exclusively queer unless you specifically search for the LGBTQ+ tag (e.g. if I search all games in their archive and order by 'steam review' there are titles from my library that should appear in the list in certain places that are missing, which is how I learned this fact)
The irritating thing about this is games that mainstream games that have a queer side character or has hero-sexual romancables and thus allows main character to have same sex relationships aren't filtered even if they are tagged LGBTQ+, its just your indie titles like Lesbian Animal RPG that get hit. Hell, and then there's mischaracterisations/mistaggings like how Dream Daddy was classified as *hentai* and *porn* for a while.
So if you check and your favourite triple-A title, your Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age etc, are still there and go 'oh, false alarm, no need to worry' you are very wrong, Steam can and already do differentiate between queer indie and big budget "LGBT Inclusive" titles.
speaking of peeing the bed it's been long enough that i can tell this story publicly. in high school i went to a party at some house with no adults, as you sometimes would, and at the end of the night like 10 people all clonked out together in the same bed. fully clothed, one of those teenage moments where you're like wow heehee how rule-breaking, because sure a lot of our parents wouldn't like us sleeping in a bed with a bunch of other teenagers and no adult supervision blah blah. fond memories. anyway.
i'm an extremely light sleeper, so i barely slept, and sometime around 6 am, i woke up to a girl totally panicking, very quietly, because she peed the bed in her sleep. and listen. this wasn't a group of mean kids by any measure. but there's no level of kindness or understanding in the world that will make peeing the bed when you're 17, surrounded by people you only sort of know, a gentle blow.
so i sat up and she was like "oh my god" and I signaled at her to be absolutely silent and I said I'd be right back. And I crawled over everyone and out of the bed like a stupid cat.
and the thing is, by senior year i wasn't getting bullied much anymore. i was generally pretty well liked by my peers, but, if this makes sense, people still didn't always expect very much from me. i was still figuring out how to mask (autistic) and i still often said or did something that made everyone remember i'm weird and they'd just be like "well. that's story for you. i guess." and for the most part i'd become pretty secure in that.
so what i'm saying is i had nothing to lose and this girl had everything to lose.
so i went downstairs and i made tomato soup. and by "made" i mean i put a whole can of tomato soup in a too-small mug and microwaved it until it was lukewarm so as to be convincingly "made" but not so hot to burn someone.
and then i walked back upstairs, and no longer like a cat, i clumsily "attempted" to crawl back into bed, loudly lost my balance, and spilled tomato soup all over the girl and her lap and several other people's laps and heads and the mattress.
everyone woke up confused and anguished and i was like, "oh my god, I'm so sorry. I just got really hungry and it's all i could find."
and everyone immediately accepted with absolutely no further questions that I would go downstairs, make tomato soup at 6 am,and bring it back to bed. everyone just begrudgingly climbed onto the floor and went back to sleep while I put the bedding right into the laundry.
i don't even know this girl's name. i only remembered this story recently because i'm in my hometown for a few months and recently a high school acquaintance said, "hey. do you remember spilling soup on everyone after prom? why did you do that?" and for a moment i genuinely did not and i stared at them completely dumbfounded while the memory loaded and then i started laughing too hard to answer for 2 minutes.
the best part is i can tell this story, and even if it reaches the people who were there, none of them will know which one of them peed the bed. thanks to tomato soup.
people keep pointing out how bewildering this must have been from her point of view and it's making me laugh to tears. i never considered it. i had such a solid plan in my head. i went downstairs to find something to dump on the bed and when i saw the tomato soup i knew it was perfect because it has a distinct smell that would cover anything else and a color which would do the same.
i was so focused on my mission that in the 14 years since i've never once considered what it must have been like for her to decide to trust me because she had no other options, sit there in anguish for three minutes, and then watch me walk back into the room and dump soup on everyone.
