i don't know why i bite by dykejoon - this only has two chapters up but the first two combined are a meaty 18k, so don't let that stop you. this is an absolutely gut wrenching look at robby breaking down and lashing out at dennis, in a way that leads to a complete breakdown from him

Honestly? Honestly the idea of Ilya Rozanov sitting himself down at twelve years old and saying I have GOT to get out of this country. It killed my mother. It's going to kill me. And then growing up a little bit and realizing some Things about himself and saying I have GOT to get out of this country. I have tried and tried and for some reason people keep Knowing What I Am. Ilya, young bisexual man with an apparently pretty clocky affect to his speaking voice. A strong young man with a natural and lovely flamboyance in him, a sweetness he tries to smother and the ability to play hockey like it was bestowed upon him by GOD. I've GOT to get out of here, he thinks to himself. And then he leaves (but not really) does some more growing up and he falls in love only he can't let himself be in love because the lead weight of this country is still tied to him and he thinks I have GOT TO GET OUT OF HERE. Then his father dies and the man he loves says "Come with me" and Ilya says I am NEVER going back!! I will wear my mother's cross and I will think of her every day and she will forgive me for never visiting her grave because her beautiful boy got OUT. I will go to a place where I am loved by a man A MAN who I love more than I ever thought I was allowed. Who holds my face and my hands and my heart. I will find a home for myself in his arms. I will never go fucking back.

i just know that first year after shane signed with ottawa, every other team in the league held the DEEPEST grudge against montreal, whether they themselves were also homophobic or not because what do you MEAN you fumbled so bad that now WE ALL HAVE TO DEAL WITH SHANE FUCKING HOLLANDER AND ILYA FUCKING ROZANOV ON THE SAME GODDAMN TEAM

What if I said that the whole reason why there was so much tension in their relationship in tlg was because their whole deal was that they were equals? That it was because the whole base of their relationship was in being the only two people who knew what was like to be them, the only really competition they had known was each other and they were independente until suddenly that wasn't true anymore? What if I say that by giving up his team and the chance to win more cups for Shane and moving not only to canada but to Shane's hometown he changed the balance and gave Shane the upperhand? What if I say that Shane had the home field, he could pick his team and he could go home to his boyfriend and he didn't know what to do with it? That it's not because shane is autistc (I honestly think it's kinda offensive for yall to act like being autistic instantaneously make you self-centered) that he couldn't see how much Ilya had given up and how much Ilya was suffering but because it had never crossed his mind that Ilya could be anything less then an opponent in the exact same level? What if I go beyond and say that it's not just his anxiety and will to control everything that puts him in the verge of an ed but the fact that since he no longer felt like Ilya was a truly worthy competition (as he states in tlg, I'm not coming up with this) he only could compete with himself? And let's be honest for an athlete there's nothing worse than trying to compete with your younger self. And what if I also said that that's why Shane had to loose his legacy team and be changed to another one he felt he was superior to (with reason), because only then he an Ilya would go back to being in the same footing and could move on with their relationship unrivaled? What then?

I need to see ilya in his WAG era. like totally embracing the stay at home dads, husband to the captain lifestyle. he pick shane up from practice with sunglasses, sleeveless shirt and baby strapped to his chest. he insults nearly every team member in the playful way that he does, before showing off the thousand pictures he took of tiny baby sleeping that day. moms are cooing over him at the mommy and me classes that he goes to, and sometime drags a reluctant shane to. he’s the coolest dad at pre-school pick up. everyone is wanting to arrange a play date with him because he’s ilya fucking rozanov. he sits with the rest of the wives at home games and is the loudest and more annoying spectator. he is screaming to luca to take the shout, swears in russian when wyatt catches a the puck. he would be so endearing but so fucking insufferable, i need it so bad.
