Taking a moment to appreciate Pokemon

That’s right, Appreciating pokemon - the older generation (I cannot speak for the newer ones past the 4th gen because I haven’t watched it all the way through).

Feeling nostalgic one day,I decided to binge watch season 1-4 and have come to the conclusion that pokemon made me (or at least aided) in who I am today. I am often told that I am wise, kind, sarcastic, and caring. I am able to think ahead and go with the flow of almost any situation. I cannot thank solely pokemon for this, but I must admit that as a child this show showed me what compassion was like, what wisdom was, and working hard meant. It taught me that people don’t always win, even if they work hard, and the only thing you can do is thank the ones who helped get you there.

Never abandon people or animals, don’t ever think you are inadequate and everything and anything can be an adventure if you believe it is.

Me: Hey, brain, let’s not think about all the mistakes I have made when I was a child while I try and study for my exam next week.

Brain: *Shows image* ...And here is when you decided to say post on your crushes facebook wall about how you thought he was a handsome devil in high school

Bringing back the magic

When I was a kid I was one of the many children that were bullied. I had little to no friends, lunch was the worst part of the day, and when I was told to find a partner I found myself being the one forcing there to be a group of three. I felt like there was no hope at the mere age of 9 or 10. My comfort at that time was escaping into the world of television. At the time I didn’t have my glasses, so reading gave me a headache.

Through my television screen I was able to find those who were put aside, those who were forced to carry the burden of the world, people who could empathize with being lonely. It was like they were whispering that everything was going to be okay so long as I carry hope inside of me.

I am typing this because I recently lost that magic inside of me. I lost what it was like to be hopeful and optimistic. I seemed to have forgotten what it was like to wonder about the world rather than be afraid of it. With everything going on, please do not diminish that magic inside of you. The magic that helps humanity be its best. The magic that is able to fuel the fire of kindness, creativity, and genius.

There is magic in this world. I truly believe this. Sometimes we lose it. There are moments we forget to replenish it. So pick up a book that once brought you hope, watch that adventure again on the screen, and revisit the childhood that once loaded you with the idea that you could be anything.

Because life is what you make it, and spreading kindness and acceptance starts with your actions.

There is also one called “Clocky”, an alarm clock that runs away and hides if you don’t get out of bed on time. When the alarm sounds you can snooze one time. If you still don’t wake up, Clocky will jump off of the bedside table, and wheel away, mindlessly bumping into objects until he finds a spot to rest. You’ll have to get up and out of bed to silence his alarm. Clocky will find new spots everyday, kind of like a hide-and-seek game.

I was thrilled to pieces when I saw this scene. Disney could have written Gideon off like some bully character who never really amounted to anything, or got what was coming to him like a lot of those characters do in their movies. Gideon made something of himself. He’s a pastry chef, something that’s not traditionally a job for men in media. And as soon as Judy speaks to him, he immediately apologizes to her. He doesn’t try to shrug it off as no big deal, or say that it was just boys being boys or whatever; he knows he hurt her, and he owns up to it. And Judy immediately forgives him.

Well done, Disney.

Also the language that he used is not something that he would have most likely grown up hearing/using. Describing his failings as self-doubt that manifested into “unchecked rage and aggression” sounds SO MUCH like therapy speak. So he’s either gotten counseling to help him with some of his problems, or sought out literature to help himself. A++ disney :)

This movie put things into perspective too. In the end it was the LITTLE GUYS that were he monster. It was the traditional “prey” that were responsible for hate breeding hate.
