Traditional art photo editing tutorial for @neutralbufun (and anyone who needs it!)
disclaimer, I’m not any kind of expert, this is just how I go about it. the art is by me.
Let’s say I want to edit this Amo sketch.
Go into photos, click this icon (third icon in the middle bar of buttons)
You should now be in the Adjust settings. Stay there.
Here’s where you can start making your sketch look better.
Pressing the Auto button will auto-adjust the lighting, which already helps quite a bit, but I prefer to edit it further myself. You can also skip this step.
Depending on the photo, it’s usually a good idea to turn up the Exposure— BUT BE SPARING WITH IT. I find it a good rule of thumb to not go above 20.
It’s already looking better! Skip Brilliance, Highlights, and Shadows, and head straight to the Contrast setting. Play around with it to your liking, but I like to crank it up a lot.
You don’t really need to turn up the Brightness at this rate, but you can if you want.
Now for the (in my opinion) most USEFUL feature: Black Point. It’ll make even the lightest sketch lines much darker. (Beware, though, as this also makes erased lines more visible). Crank that as high as you’d like.
I’ll also bring down the Saturation sometimes if my previous edits made the lighting too strong.
Here’s where I typically stop! You can play around with the remaining settings if you want to change the tint of the photo and such, but for practicality purposes this much works for me.
I’d also crop out my hand, but I’m too lazy right now.
