The thing with people judging you on appearance is that they will always move the goalpost

If you lose weight, you could always lose more. If you lose “too much,” you look bad. If you gain weight, you let yourself go. If you grow your hair and take care of it, you’re trying too hard. If you buzz it, you look queer or wrong or not sexy enough. If you dress comfortably, you look frumpy. If you dress professionally, you’re trying to impress someone.

So fuck it. At some point you have to dress and look and groom and conduct yourself according to YOUR wishes and YOUR values. Whether you want to become blind to the criticism or you want to confront it is entirely up to you, but the moment you take control and stop looking to others for permission to look how you want will be a good one.
