@nickcandon
after spending multiple days fruitlessly googling "perfume that looks like the movie saw" i finally found it
I say this with a deep and abiding affection for Homestuck, which shaped my sense of humor in ways I will never recover from:
Anyone pretending that the Homestuck Fandom has the higher ground in taste needs to admit to themselves that they are indulging in some sort of elaborate kayfabe.
You know what, I don’t think he even wanted that coup d’état to work out. I think he just wanted an excuse to kill himself.
Yukio Mishima’s wikipedia article is fucking wild
tldr: he was a famous Japanese post war authour and nationalist and he committed suicide after trying to do a coup to overturn the Japanese postwar constitution
and yeah he definitely had a honourable suicide thing
During a post-war history class in undergrad, I abruptly snapped back to reality to see a picture of Yukio Mishima projected onto the front of the classroom, with my perfectly lovely professor asking me what I thought about...something.
On about an hour of sleep, some nyquil, and otherwise unmedicated, all I could summon up was, "I feel like I've seen this asshole half-naked a lot."
It was considered sufficiently insightful commentary.
hey there
drive by hello! i am not dead. i know sometimes that is a concern bc in the past i have vanished from social media due to an unexpected health crisis. funnily enough that did happen.
behold: the explanation for the entire litany of my complex medical history.
the good news for all y'all who are here for my writing is that The Archive Undying (and in some ways Star Wars: Ronin) were both direct products of the thoughts and fee-fees that percolated through my last major bout of hospitalization and medical collapse, and i just had another one! haha. i already know exactly which character in the next book has the lupus analogue. his life is mine to systematically wrack and ruin. it'll be a good time.
also: i did an audacious thing and actually responded to some fanmail on squarespace the other day and genuinely intend to begin working through the backlog both there and here. you are all v precious to me. i am just also in a space where i overextend myself swiftly and with abandon, to my darling wife's perpetual dismay, so updates will continue to be intermittent.
hope, relief, and sweetness to you all in the midst of this Unfortunate Year for the Fucking History Books (did i mention i also got swept up in that tsunami evac this week; tho we were outside the evac zone so just became port of call for my fam + had to get in touch with the hospital abt various assessments and treatments that might need juggling. life just can't have a fucking nap, my god, come on, do it for yourself, my bud.).
take care of yourselves and also, please, of each other. we're going to need it.
She made me watch Madame Web from the hospital recliner. :( :( The lupus does not stop A God Damn Menace.
i just invented a cathedral rose window granny square pattern and i feel insane now
Not me writing up an entire granny square pattern instead of studying :)
I hope it makes sense, and other people enjoy!
People who requested the pattern tagged under the cut:
Good pattern had fun
I need this for later! Amazing.
@siderealglimmer (now that knottybliss is gone...)
Bsky post by libro.fm: Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.
Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

Fuck Amazon. Go to bookshop.org or better yet, take a little time on Saturday to visit your local indie bookstore.
An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.
I was curious how it worked. In the about page there’s a link that leads you to a store locator where you can select your local stores.
And, in the UK, I'd recommend hive.co.uk
In House of Leaves, Navidson spends huge chunks of the book stuck in his home, while in Homestuck, John leaves the house almost immediately. Really makes you think.
what probably happened that night they met when sunai was too drunk to remember anything
I am pleased to report that @emcandon is sitting next to me wheeze laughing and shrieking, hands over their face, "that's Adi that's my boy he's so sad"
unstoppable force meets immovable object
Omg 🤦♀️😂😂😂😂
anders the man that you are
Okay, so. My only exposure to Wicked had been when, during college, I made The Worst Choice of My Entire Life to study abroad in Wales. And while I was damp, cold, badly nourished by a diet of potatoes and canned tuna, greasy as I've ever been because no one ever washed the dorm showers and they quickly grew mold --
The girl in the room next door decided that she needed to play Defying Gravity on repeat. And sing along. On repeat. And I have a lot of compassion for her need to find what joy she could in our tragic little Welsh hole! Bless her heart, she could not hold the notes.
(Also, someone told me the book had 'some weird sex stuff?' in kind of an apologetic way.)
But the movie was really fucking good.
The National Park Service has released crochet/knit patterns! The triops is my favorite.
Here's their Ravelry:
But wait there's more if Ravelry isn't your thing:
crochet, lighthouse
After more than a year I’ve finished the letters of my cross-stitch. It was mostly stitched on the subway during my commute. It’s been my constant companion for months. I don’t want to let it go, but also I’m not sure how to continue yet.
I was powered by spite about how often astr*l*gy comes up in my circles, and I’m not sure a different project would entertain me as much. Though I do love the feeling of cross-stitching.
The Beast that Bothers
[video description: an animation of a cat bothering a person who’s asleep in bed. The cat runs around, jumps on top of them, lies on their head, jumps at the walls, and does various other things in time with the music. The person doesn’t react until the cat starts bapping them on the head, when they look at the cat and then go back to sleep. End description]
[additional description: the song is the Benny Hill theme. /end description]
I am really suffering from the hubris of 'I'll just buy the knock-off woobles crochet kit'
They have descended into using abbreviations they didn't even bother to include in their handy dandy terribly stitch pictograms. What is a half double and how am I supposed to conjure the forbidden knowledge of it from your pamphlet!!
