Do any of you know how discrimination works? As a disabled person (and as a non pro endo), ableism absolutely can be directed at abled people; it's not just ableism, though, thats how any discrimination works.
The reason this is true is because oppression and discrimination against minorites are systemic. Ableism, racism, misogyny, these are all ingrained in all of us, and we are taught by society to internalize these things and hold people to an abled white male norm. These are learned behaviors, and nobody is immune to learning them, even those in minorites. Especially those in minorities, I would say.
This means when people fall out of line with the norm, even if they aren't technically apart of a minority group, discrimination can be directed towards them to uphold the norm. If a man isnt performing manhood correctly, misogyny can be directed towards him.
For example, when someone calls a cis man a sissy for, say, painting his nails, that stems from misogyny. When a man beats up another man for acting like a woman, that's misogyny. Sure, it may not affect him as much as it would a non cis man, but the root of the problem is misogyny. If not for the prejudice against women, this wouldn't have happened.
That's why when you call someone “delusional” or “crazy” or “attention-seeking” or “narcissistic” for not fitting the norm of abled people, even if they are abled, that behavior stems from ableism. Perhaps it even stems from internalized ableism. You are perpetuating the ableist norms of society and upholding people to an abled standard.
(Better yet, even if they are abled in some ways– i.e, even if they don't have this one specific disorder– they may still very well have other disorders, and now you're inflicting this once misdirected ableism at a disabled person.)
Stop justifying your ableist actions and behaviors with “This group doesn't have a disorder” because these are the very arguments used to uphold ableism and other forms of discrimination in society. You're not immune to performing discriminatory acts just because you're apart of an oppressed group.
If you're apart of a minority group you should really know this.
