my real issue here is that 99% of the time when someone says “horror would be better if they just did X and Y and Z instead of horror tropes” they’re describing a movie—or multiple movies!—that already exist and are beloved by horror fans, but the person saying it just doesnt like horror and has no idea and is not actually that interested
