Hello! I go by Vanya or August (she/they, aroace, enby) and I yap a lot (very dramatically). This is my Grishaverse-specific blog, although I'll occasionally talk about other things too. I'm a history and language nerd + writer, so that stuff will come up on here sometimes on top of my own analysis and headcanons for the Grishaverse. Just remember to be respectful when engaging in discussions!!

I've already done language things I would like to see in the Grishaverse, now I'm doing fashion things I would like to see in the Grishaverse because I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet:

Everyday west Ravkan clothing being more colorful than east Ravkan clothing due to the greater access to trade

Zemeni clothing coming with more elaborate draping, beadwork, stitching, and metallic accents (ex: cloth of gold) because of their craftsman culture

The Kerch having more mass-produced clothing hence more color, pattern, and style options for the average consumer. Even better if that availability is the reason why merchants wear tailored black clothes to indicate status because simply having lots of color and patterns doesn't mean anything

Fossilized court dress in the Ravkan court (think Russian court fashion from the 1800s)

Fjerdans relying on craftsmanship (tailoring, intentionality, draping, and other small details) to indicate class because the climate/culture requires clothing to be practical, and therefore people use a lot of the same resources regardless of their position

Shu clothing managing to be very breathable and light to suit the warm climate even when covering the whole body or having multiple layers

Fjerdan fashion being very military-inspired

Kerch clothing being very mismatched because people scavenge individual pieces that don't necessarily have anything to go with them

i like to think there was a moment during their first couple of weeks knowing each other when kaz made a crude joke in his office and looked to inej for approval but she was still learning kerch and didn’t get it yet so he took the time to explain it to her and got a little flustered and was all like “it’s funny, right? it’s funny? say it’s funny” and in her head she was like damn yeah i guess this loser isn’t so scary after all and also now i have a stupid crush on him

Post-canon Zoyalai headcanons because I adore them—

Supermodel couple. Obviously they're not actually models, but they're both canonically attractive and they look even better together

Nikolai serves as Zoya's advisor and does a lot of the reform, schmoozing, and political scheming from behind the scenes while Zoya manages the rest of the kingdom to keep it from falling apart

After they marry, Nikolai turns the role of royal consort/royal spouse into a much more politically active one, purely because he a.) wants to help his wife, and b.) can't resist

Zoya starts to get annoyed by all the Sankta Zoya stuff, and in return for Nikolai arguing that it's a good thing she tries to spread rumors about him being a saint too

They don't have biological children because they don't want to risk passing on any part of Nikolai's merzost, but they do adopt kids. Zoya is the strict parent and Nikolai is the fun parent, but they're both very dedicated to their kids

As Nikolai starts to age, Zoya loves tracing his crow's feet and smile lines, as well as playing with the graying parts of his hair. She tries to find a way to age her body with him, even just a little bit

They bicker constantly and Zoya acts like she can't stand Nikolai, even after they've been married and parenting

They're both incredibly stubborn idiots who don't know how to take care of themselves and will gladly go until they collapse, but they will pester the other relentlessly into taking a break, going for a walk, drinking water, eating, sleeping, etc.

Zoya tries to change some of the decor in parts of the palace and is very annoyed to learn that Nikolai is occasionally a fan of an amount of luxury she finds tacky. They ultimately compromise, but it takes months of debate between two people who grew up in very different conditions

Nikolai loves to drag Zoya away from her duties to ride horses or go sailing with him, which she pretends to dislike but secretly loves

When Nikolai is much older Zoya becomes incredibly protective, purely because she doesn't want to confront the possibility of him getting closer to dying

i wanna see kaz be medium/slightly below average height (around 5’6-5’7). i wanna see him with a yellow, almost green hue to his skin. i wanna see him with pox scars along with battle scars. i wanna see him with uneven hair because he can’t let anyone else close enough to cut it for him. i wanna see him be lean but muscular. i wanna see him with his R tattoo.

i wanna see inej be tiny (4’11 AT MOST). i wanna see her with actually brown skin, not just slightly darker white. i wanna see her with the broad shoulders and thick thighs and all the musculature of a trained gymnast. i wanna see her with hair slicked back with tons of gel and hairspray like a dancer. i wanna see her with a flat chest and little to no curves (as was described in the books). i wanna see her with calluses on her hands and feet.

i wanna see nina be tall (around 5’11). i wanna see her with fat rolls. i wanna see her with wide hips and a chest that gives her back pain. i wanna see her with flabby underarms and stretch marks on her legs and torso. i wanna see her with central heterochromatic eyes. i wanna see her with the body language of someone who was trained to be a soldier since childhood. i wanna see her with wavy but not curly hair. i wanna see her with beauty marks scattered all over her body.

i wanna see matthias be reasonably tall (6’0-6’3). i wanna see him with big muscles, especially on his upper half. i wanna see him with light skin and even lighter hair. i wanna see him with battle scars and wolf bite scars. i wanna see him with burn scars from the fire that destroyed his village. i wanna see him with a triangular shoulder-to-waist ratio. i wanna see him with the faintest of faint freckles across the bridge of his nose.

i wanna see jesper be unreasonably tall (6’5-6’8). i wanna see him be lanky and long-limbed. i wanna see him with the muscles of a farmer. i wanna see him with calluses on both his hands. i wanna see him with battle scars and the scars one gets from horses and cows and farm-related incidents. i wanna see him with cherry blossom and jurda bloom tattoos. i wanna see him with a wide nose and plump lips. i wanna see him have little to no curve from his shoulders to his waist to his hips. i wanna see him with stretch marks from growing so tall so fast. i wanna see him with big hands and feet. i wanna see him with his mother’s dark skin and his father’s freckles.

i wanna see wylan be short (5’5-5’6). i wanna see him be scrawny and gaunt in the way a person gets when they’ve been malnourished (he canonically had to cut new holes in his belt when he got to the barrel). i wanna see him with hair that shifts between auburn, strawberry blond, and gold depending on the lighting. i wanna see him with actually curly hair and not just waves. i wanna see him with chemical burn scars and scars from his father’s abuse. i wanna see him with thin musician’s fingers. i wanna see him absolutely covered in freckles. i wanna see him with big doe eyes and the blue-eyed stare.

I am a firm believer in wavy-haired Kaz. His hair is only mostly straight now because it's weighed down with grease and the gel that he uses to slick it back. If he actually took care of it (and was healthier in general) it would be wavier and shinier, like it was when he was younger.

the combination of a chemist who likes explosives, a untrained fabrikator sharpshooter who likes a gamble, and two guys who absolutely have to know how something works whilst neither of whom are used to being told ‘no’ - also one of them is a grumpy math nerd control freak, the other a daredevil adrenaline junkie - would create something absolutely terrifying

Here’s how I think the crows would be at babysitting

Kaz - Either absolutely horrible or incredible. He either traumatizes the kid or is actually exceptional at childcare. And this fully depends on his mood. Some kids absolutely adore him and ask him to babysit again (he wont) and some kids cry at the thought of him coming back.

Inej - She is incredible at babysitting. No one can change my mind on this. She’s very sweet to the kids and knows exactly how to handle a tantrum, deescalate, and discipline.

Jesper - You don’t want him babysitting your kids. He’s definitely fun and likes to play games with the kids, but he has no authority over them and struggles to filter himself. He’s good at keeping them entertained but will burn out after an hour and if a kid starts to cry he’ll start swearing under his breath.

Wylan - You’d think he’d be great but he gets too awkward. He doesn’t know how to talk to kids and engage with them. He lacks confidence when setting rules. He has the ability to babysit but kids won’t be necessarily asking for him. Mentally, he knows exactly what to do but when he has to execute it, it doesn’t go as planned. The only time he gets stern is if the kids start fighting.

Nina - She treats it like a hang out with friends. She talks to them as if they’re grown and it actually doesn’t go terribly. The only issue I see happening is her saying something not incredibly child friendly, but I think she’d be really good at it. Just not the same way as Inej would be.

Matthias - His appearance might intimidate the kids at first. The kids will be shy around him and wary when he tries to engage, but after the first hour or so the kids will end up liking him. He’s very gentle and caring with the kids. He doesn’t have to discipline much because when he sets a rule the kids will shyly agree (still intimidated).
