And it gets better, because as she’s going to give those dogs away, guess who goes with her? Guess who realizes that this is a difficult thing for her, who cares about her feelings and doesn’t want her to have to do it alone? Not Ted, the reason she’s in that position in the first place.
Barney cared about Robin so much, that he not only noticed her feelings on this, he decided to spend his day going with her and making sure she had support. And this was season 2, before they hooked up or were anywhere near being together. When Ted asked her to give her friends away, Barney was a friend to her. When Robin needs a friend that’s exactly what Barney is, every time. And no, this wasn’t him trying to sleep with her or anything, he was just there for her. The same way he was there for her when Simon dumped her. The same way he was there for her when she was about to be deported. The same way he was there for her when she became convinced she was just another one of his numbers. The same way he was there for her during that race, on the day when she really needed that win. The same way he was there for her when Ted made her feel bad about herself for not being needy. The same way he was there for her even after she rejected him in Tick Tick Tick, because no matter how much it hurt him, he’d never abandon their friendship over rejection. The same way he was there for her when he found out she couldn’t have children.
