Before vs After Adoption

Always adopt. Always.
Choju Jinbutsu Giga (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals)
Please artists, listen to your body’s warning signs. No matter what, please don’t push your body to continue working when it’s giving you all the signs that you need a break. This doesn’t apply to only drawing, but to crocheting, knitting, and any other sort of art you’re working on. I pushed myself to crochet for hours on end a day, ignoring warning signs and dismissing the pain even after I found out I had fibromyalgia. I could sell amigurumi at conventions, and because royalties for books don’t pay much if anything at all some months (unless you’re well-known), I needed income. If I had listened to my body, if I had taken my fibromyalgia into consideration, the pain in my right side wouldn’t be so devastating. (I have no idea what else is going on with my arm, but fibro is bad enough without pushing your body to extremes. I was at least told it’s not carpal tunnel last time I could afford going to the doctor.) I want people to know, at least, that you don’t have to have fibro to do damage to your body. LISTEN TO IT. Please. I’m telling you, it’s not worth losing out the ability to do what you love at all because you felt like you needed to do as much as you could right now. That drawing, that blanket, that plushie–they can be set aside until you’ve rested. If you stop now, and rest, you can do more later. Because doing all you can now might mean not being able to physically handle doing it at all later. I’m very concerned to see so many people who do this. And another tip: don’t ignore the exercises people recommend for artists to combat carpal tunnel. Don’t ignore the exercises if you’re sitting too long. DON’T IGNORE YOUR BODY’S SIGNS OF PAIN, EXHAUSTION, FLARE UPS, ETC. Don’t neglect yourself.

The above video titled “The Unequal Opportunity Race” was screened as part of a schoolwide Black History Month program at Glen Allen High School in Glen Allen, Virginia. Some parents apparently weren’t thrilled about that. One local grandparent had two words for what this video was pushing on white kids.
MARIA WITH THE SHITS
Maria ain’t taking nothing
Maria came for blood and I’m here for it
Okay guys this is kinda important. GQ just came in the mail and for the first time in a long while it had a really important article…
I just sat here for like the last half hour reading this and I’m incredibly appalled at our justice system in regards to the military. The article interviews about 23 men who have all been sexually assaulted in some branch of the military. The PTSD from sexual assault in the military is more prevalent than PTSD from combat…
If you have a chance I suggest reading this article…and the title is a quote that one of the victims Doctor told him…
Hey guys! I’m very impressed and extremely happy to see this post gaining a lot of speed over the last few days! A few people have requested it, so i’ve gone ahead and scanned the pages of the article for those who want to read it, to read.
So, here it is!
Wow. Very powerful stuff. I’ve had quite a few friends from back home enter the military and this is never something we bring up in discussions. I’m glad it’s garnering more attention.
Some quotes:
“The moment a man enlists in the United States armed forces, his chances of being sexually assaulted increase by a factor of ten. Women, of course, are much more likely to be victims of military sexual trauma (MST), but far fewer of them enlist. In fact, more military men are assaulted than women— nearly 14,000 in 2012 alone.”
“Military culture is built upon a tenuous balance of aggression and obedience. The potential for sexual violence exists whenever there is too much of either.”
“Trent Smith, Air Force, enlisted 2011: “He was a senior aide— he had a direct line to the top. Being invited voer to his house, I just took it as I should go. Looking back, I as myself, Why didn’t you do anything? It wasn’t like he held me down or tied me up. I didn’t want to cross him. I really didn’t feel like I had any choice. I had just turned 19. It could be my career. I froze and went along with it.”“
“Rsearch suggests that the military brass may have conspired to illegally discharge MST victims by falsely diagnosing them with personality disorders. “The military has a systemic personality disorder discharge problem,” write the authors of a 2012 Yale Law School white paper. Between 2001 and 2010, some 31,000 servicepersons were involuntarily discharged for personality disorders. It is likely that in many cases these were sham diagnoses meant to rid the ranks of MST victims.”
“Jeremy Robinson [name changed], Army, 1970-1972: “I have very little memory of my time in the psychiatric ward, because I was so heavily drugged. I stopped eating. I became suicidal, and I made three attempts. They gave me shock treatments against my will. The diagnosis was paranoid schizophrenia. I bore that label for forty years before the VA finally admitted they had misdiagnosed me.”“
“Above all, MST victins keep quiet because they do not believe their attackers will be punished. And they’re almost certainly right. The conviction rate in MST cases that go to trial is just 7 percent. An estimated 81% of male MST victims never report being attacked. Perhaps it should astonish us that any of them do.”
“Mike Thomson, Marines, 1997-1999: ”I wasn’t “afraid” to report it— I was ashamed and disgusted. Guys aren’t supposed to be raped. I didn’t want to tell anybody about it. I didn’t want to say anything.”“
“Men develop PTSD from sexual assault at nearly twice the rate they do from combat. Yet as multiple research papers have noted, the condition in men is egregiously understudied. This is because so few men tell anyone. Those who do often wait years; many male participants in therapy groups are veterans of Korea and Vietnam. At Bay Pines’ C. W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in Florida, the country’s first residential facility for men suffering from MST, the average patient is over 50 years old at admission.”
So GLAD the word is spreading!
How to talk about really important issues without derailment
Tfw a Hungarian royal almost 1000 years ago was more progressive than your current government.
[Text from a book reading: “Founding Principle, In AD 1036 the wise King Stephen wrote to his son, Emeric: ‘Make the strangers welcome in this land, let them keep their languages and customs, for weak and fragile is the realm which is based on a single language and culture.’]
Inside America’s private prisons built for immigrants
You may not know it, but America has a shadow system of privately run prisons that exclusively hold noncitizens. And inmates in these facilities are dying from medical neglect.
Our new podcast investigates this immigrant-only prison system and the polices that helped fill it. Listen here.

Why have i never seen this before?
You know why you haven’t seen this before
The same reason you don’t see a lot of black history
Every artist who sees this post should do the following:
- Watch the video.
- Follow the instructions
- Reblog
I can’t stress you enough about how important these exercises are for your drawing hand. You don’t wanna get CTS of Tendonitis and similar stuff that will prevent you from making art or even hold a pencil.
Okay, this guy is my HERO. I just did these exercises as I watched the video, and already my arms and hands feel better. I have a degenerative tendon disease that prevents my muscles, tendons and ligaments from retaining their elasticity, and so anything that maintains the health of my bendy parts is important.
I URGE YOU. Even if you don’t draw, do these several times a day. Even just sitting at a computer can do serious damage. My dad, who was a rugby player, a carpenter, and now a handyman, suffered from severe carpal tunnel syndrome, simply as a result of sitting at the computer at the end of the day to play a little solitaire. Don’t let it happen to you!
((Guys, I will reblog this like, 5 times a day just so you all will see this. This is REALLY helpful, and it’s quick and easy.))
Wow, these are REALLY helpful. And yes, this is not just good but IMPORTANT for more than artists — if you type a lot, play a lot of video games, do anything that requires lots of repetitive movements of your hands, wrists, and arms (gardening, sewing, factory work), these can help. Even if you don’t yet get pain these are a great preventative measure, because the damage builds up over time. Youth is no protection.
And like he says, you should feel a stretch, but don’t push it too far!
Signal boosting. Guys, I just did this and holy cow do I feel incredibly light and limber in my arms. Again, even if you don’t have any sort of disease, do this as a preventative measure.
DEAR LORD THIS FELT WONDERFUL THANK YOU SO MUCH TO omfg-am-i-hallucinating-again FOR SENDING THIS TO ME
I have pretty f’d up tendinitis and this felt awesome.
Found this a while ago! Glad to see it on my feed.
I don’t wear a wrist brace anymore thanks to this video!
@hollowedskin @kuromatic @aprincessofmonsters @drovie and all the art friends I’m forgetting!
@juliosalgado83 @favianna
Let it never be forgotten that my brother is 13 years older than me, and when he went off to college I was deeply entrenched in my “The Little Mermaid” obsession, and when he and a group of friends went out to a karaoke place, there was a group of girls having fun singing Disney songs and my brother got up and busted out a perfect rendition of “Under the Sea” and long story short I was the reason my brother met his wife.
Friendly reminder for anyone planning on buying a goose jacket this season, this is what you’re supporting 😷
Ok signal boost cause I was deadass gunna get one of these and I had no idea
