i feel like not many people know this but the storyline of the video game simon plays with ayub in episode one parallels his relationship with wilhelm (just in case you needed more proof of how insane the attention to detail in the show is): 

the game is called ‘a way out’ and follows two convicts as they plot to escape a prison and in the show, simon plays leo, who has been in the prison for longer. the other character, vincent, is a recent transfer to the prison - see where i’m going with this?

[spoilers for a way out ahead], although leo is hesitant at first, the two men decide to come up with an escape plan because they share a grudge against the same man - very reminiscent of W & S’ relationships with august (also: potential season two plot point?). the two bond and save each other a few times during their journey but towards the end, vincent ends up betraying leo and reveals he was an undercover agent the whole time - the reason leo was arrested in the first place was because of a sting operation vincent was involved in. similarly, wilhelm is the reason simon is caught up in the video scandal, but he also leaves simon to deal with the fallout by denying his involvement. *cue getaway car by taylor swift*

this video game as a framing device does not only parallel wilhelm and simon feeling trapped in hillerska - and their society as a whole - for their otherness, but, because it literally involves criminals, it also helps reinforce the reoccuring theme that W&S are constantly made to feel like their relationship is peverse or wrong in some way ( which i could make a whole post about, i have Thoughts). 

anyways all of this makes the scene where simon tells wilhelm that they “did nothing wrong” just that much more impactful.

It’s so funny when Felice says she is getting glances and stuff from Wilhelm. Seriously when? Anyway, here are some actual glances and stuff shared between Simon and Wilhelm that say so much with no words. These are my personal favorites.

Blink and you will miss it. The first time Simon sneaks a look at prince Wilhelm. He looks so nervous, poor baby.

Wilhelm turning to Eric after hearing Simon sing. “Are you seeing this too? I didn’t make him up, right?”

Little alcohol in him and Wille is already thinking, “I need this boy under me.”

Whatever genre of romance this look is. 

“Are you as nervous as me? IS there something going on here?”

All of this. But especially Simon turning to Ayub, “Are you seeing this too? I didn’t make him up, right?”

Simon staring at the Wille’s pinky on his knee for full SIX seconds. All the thoughts that must be going through both of their heads.
