Sure you grieve the extinction of the Passenger Pigeons, but are you still calling Rock Pigeons "flying rats" and laughing at their misery?
Sure you obsess over finding the last rumoured surviving Ivory-billed Woodpecker, but are you still harassing migrating geese and destroying their eggs?
Sure you dream of seeing the long gone Great Auks, but are you still throwing trash at gulls?
If you only care about birds when they are charismatic and extinct, you don't care about birds.
This isn't about birds.

Oh, sweetie, I can do better than that.
I needed to see this today.
The fact that there are gods with disabilities makes me so emotional. Hephaestus, Tyr, Hodr, Odin and other disabled deities just prove that being disabled is a vital part of the human experience, not a deviation from it, and that concept alone is so moving. Just like there are deities for specific human experiences like fertility or war, there are also deities with disabilities, which just proves that we have just as much of a place on this earth as mothers and warriors do. The idea of that has genuinely pulled me through some hard times.
The storm does not chase me.
It moves through me.
Thunder in the ribs.
Lightning behind the eyes.
I learned rage from weatherā
how to arrive loud,
how to leave the ground changed,
how to mean no apology.
Afterward,
the air tastes clean.
Even the ruins breathe easier.
im caught between the extremes of feeling guilt and feeling justified for my actions all the time, for everything. Its one or the other, but no middle ground. And i fear it will be like this forever.
An episode of mania almost always always always starts out so euphorically, makes you feel like youāre on the perfect drug, makes your confidence and motivation sky rocket and has you romanticizing all the fun it baits you with. It feels so amazing, you feel like nothing can hurt you or get to you.
Then the irritability comes, genuine rage, such an uncomfortable and overwhelming increase in libido, dangerous impulses, social behavior to be humiliated from by the time you crash, severe sleep deprivation that disorients the fuck out of you the longer you go without it, without even feeling tired at all. But feeling completely out of control. And if it escalates, Lord help you. Hallucinations, bad paranoia, black outs, substance abuse (or relapse if you happen to be recovering), delusions, everything that could get you into a psych ward. It isnāt fun at the end and any pleasure you feel is completely illusionary.
The worst part is I still normally never want it to stop. Because the depression after, which gets so ugly and terrible the longer, more intense the mania is, is something Iām not looking forward to at all. That, and mania can really sometimes convince you that you love it. Iām not wanting to go there though, because I have a lot to lose. Even if I donāt lose anything, Iām tired of this cycle and just canāt afford to desire it anymore. So Iām managing where I can, but wow itās just scary to watch it take you higher and higher into it, and further and further away from yourself.
This is precisely why I despise any sort of stigma toward bipolar disorder. Itās so misunderstood, misquoted, and mistreated. I just really want and need some help. My hands are so sweaty and shaky, my heart and my mind are racing, I canāt stop talking, I canāt eat. I canāt focus, I can only fixate. And itās just so overwhelming already.
I know im a shit friend but oh god am i fucking trying
I canāt even yawn right now without pain. Sleep isnāt even an escape anymore if Iām not even able to fall asleep without pain.
They were never different people, they were the same soul. A child who felt different and only wanted to feel worth and cared for.
Spinney never acted when he performed Big Bird. He was Big Bird, and Big Bird was him in different time stamps. He was him as a child, and at the same tim, Big Bird was like his own child to him.
He was a good man.
ankylosaurus, therizinosaurus & quetzalcoatlus... some of my fav guys
I was talking to a friend earlier and said that I was āfossilizingā and now I truly feel my body is getting payback on me with the most pain Iāve felt in DAYS
Something I think about sometimes is the fact that Hephaestus is disabled. Or at the very least, chooses to represent himself that way. I donāt believe a god could be meaningfully injured, but perhaps he intended a symbology in his clubbed foot?
The Greeks often conflated physical beauty or perfection with moral goodness. Wholeness of body was considered very important, & Hephaestusā disability conflicts this idea. He has difficulty walking, & yet he is a god, above mortal standards of beauty.
I believe he is intended to be a moral guide for us. If gods can be disfigured, then the gods will not judge us mortals for being so. Your disability is irrelevant in the face of the gods, for they do not expect perfection, only your best.
He is also the paramour of Aphrodite. Beauty & disability, side by side. Could the message be any more clear?
when Brennan said "The first rule of existence is: as above, so below. People are fractal images of the universe. You are as we are. In the same way your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't."
when Brennan said "It is a horrifying responsibility to think because things cannot remain the same, each and every one of us must shoulder some responsibility for how they will become different."
when Brennan said "Sometimes decisions are not difficult. Sometimes they are just hard."
when Brennan said "There is no moral. The Wolf eats you one day and until it does, the forest is beautiful."
when Brennan said "I always felt the fundamental substance of the universe is creation. None of this makes any sense, when you really break it down. It's like, none of this had to happen, but it's beautiful and art is the definition of 'this didn't have to happen, but it's beautiful.' [...] It resonates with the universe because the universe is consciousness playing with itself."

What is Ankylosing Spondylitis and How Does It Impact Your Well-being?
Did you ever ask yourself why some individuals suffer from ongoing stiffness and pain in their lower back? Ankylosing spondylitis is an illness that mainly targets the spine and may affect mobility over time. It is an inflammatory disease that affects the joints within the spine, causing heightened stiffness, less flexibility, and eventual changes in posture. Although it is a chronic condition, early recognition and good management can enable a more active and pain-free life.
Understanding Ankylosing Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of inflammatory arthritis that occurs primarily in the sacroiliac joints, where the lower spine and pelvis are joined together. Gradually, inflammation within these joints causes the vertebrae to fuse, limiting flexibility. Unlike other types of arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis involves younger adults more, typically occurring in late adolescence or early adulthood.
The condition is often linked to genetic causes, with the HLA-B27 gene being a major contributor. Although not all individuals with this gene develop the condition, having it raises susceptibility. Immune system reactions and environmental factors could be other contributing causes.
Identifying the Symptoms
Ankylosing spondylitis tends to begin with minor stiffness in the hips and lower back, which is usually worse in the morning or after rest. With time, some people will develop pain radiating to the upper part of the back, shoulders, and neck. Others may have mild fatigue and stiffness that gets better with activity.
As the condition advances, postural changes can take place, influencing how an individual walks or stands. The normal curve of the spine can eventually change, influencing movement and activities. Although each person's condition progresses differently, being responsive to these symptoms ensures early medical intervention.
The Importance of Early Diagnosis
An early diagnosis enables patients to make lifestyle changes that can facilitate mobility and comfort. Symptoms are determined by doctors using physical tests, imaging studies, and blood examinations that identify inflammation markers. Proper evaluation guarantees that patients get appropriate information according to their individual needs.
How Lifestyle Choices Can Make a Difference
Although ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic condition, there are some lifestyle changes that bring all around well-being. Regular exercise with gentle movements keeps the spine flexible and minimizes stiffness. Swimming and yoga are often suggested, as they are gentle forms of movement that do not overstrain the body.
Awareness of posture is another important factor. Maintaining good sitting and standing posture aids in spinal alignment and helps to minimize stress in the affected joint. Such little changes as employing supportive seating and keeping oneself upright help ensure long-term comfort.
Nutrition also aids in maintaining joint health. Eating a balanced diet of anti-inflammatory foods such as fruits, vegetables, and fats can aid general well-being. Staying well-hydrated and staying at an ideal weight also help with mobility and comfort.
Medical Approaches to Managing Ankylosing Spondylitis
Medical practitioners offer different solutions to enable individuals to cope with ankylosing spondylitis effectively. Treatments tend to address the inflammation and maintenance of spinal flexibility. Doctors may prescribe drugs that promote joint comfort and alleviate stiffness.
Physical therapy is also vital in maintaining posture and movement. Customized exercise regimens enable individuals to build muscle strength and improve mobility. Therapy sessions at regular intervals advise individuals on methods that suit their lifestyle requirements.
For those needing extra assistance, more advanced medical treatments can be used. These methods are used to maintain mobility and improve comfort, allowing patients to continue normal activities without issues.
The Role of Supportive Care
Aside from medical therapies, supportive care is also very important in treating ankylosing spondylitis. Participation in support groups and interaction with other people with the same condition gives a feeling of understanding and encouragement. Listening to others and learning from their experiences can offer a lot of ideas on alternative means of maintaining mobility.
Mental health is just as significant. Practicing relaxation methods, including meditation or breathing exercises, can assist one in coping with daily stressors. A healthy balance of physical and mental well-being guarantees a good attitude and an enjoyable way of life.
Conclusion
It is possible to live a healthy and productive life despite living with ankylosing spondylitis. With good treatment, one may still enjoy everyday activities without letting spinal health impair one's happiness. A proper approach with exercises, nutritious balanced diet, and medical consultation would help a patient live the active life of choice.
