🚨HOMER ALERT 🚨 a copy of a section from The Iliad has been identified as the text in a papyrus placed on the abdomen of a mummified person, excavated last year, as part of the embalming ritual. Pride of place, not stuffed inside a cavity like previously found texts, and the first piece of Literature found on a mummy and in a funerary context.
And guess which bit it is?
THE CATALOGUE OF SHIPS 😂😂😂😂
(Well, we all knew those pages had to be *someone’s* favourite bit 😉)
BRB, off to shoehorn this into a lesson…

My roommate is back with more translations into old Semitic languages!!
2 poems/songs, both in Ugaritic, and chapters 1-4 of Gideon the Ninth in Biblical Hebrew — both poems have a back translation into English, and GtN has extremely thorough notes for those of us who don’t speak ancient Semitic languages :)

Day 28 of my 100 day reset
So i decided not to post every day so this is the first update in a while.
I've had a pretty good July! I visited my friend in York.
I tried bouldering for the first time (Which is a lot harder than it looks!). And I went back to yoga after god probably at least 7 years.
Finished another one! Just need to wash + iron + frame it now!
Me, dumping a whole bag of shredded iceberg lettuce into a bowl: Behold, the perfect salad!
I think kafka’s diaries are the strongest evidence that journaling is not necessarily good for your mental health
it's because he didn't use washi tape
Day 3 of my 100 day reset. 25.06.25
Haven't gotten a whole lot done today bc there was a birthday here so I had to do birthday things.
Day 2 of my 100 day reset. 24.06.25
Went to a new gym this morning that was miles better than my usual one.
Got an unpleasant work task done, so glad of that.
Didn't get a whole lot else noteworthy done though so tomorrow I will need to work a harder. I ended up finding an old blog of mine that I ran very briefly a few years ago. I had completely forgotten about it so it was quite surreal scrolling through it. Also quite sobering though because I don't want to repeat mistakes I made back then when I was originally trying to find a PhD.
Song of the day:
Day 1 of my 100-day reset. 23.06.25
I'm trying to rekindle my old work ethic. I'm hoping that if I can jump-start it in the next few months then I'll be in a good position to start applying for PhDs by Q4.
Today, I did 100% of my to-do list. I re-joined the gym. I re-started studying German. And I bought a new plant. I wrote 1,140 words (first thing I've written in a LONG time), and aptly I've started week 1 of the Artist's Way.

I got distracted from this piece and probably won’t finish, but here’s what I have anyway! Our beautiful, weird cambrian family.
