“So…” El Gaucho’s voice breaks the silence. “have you ever ridden a horse?”

The clacking of Minhkhoa’s keyboard slows to a stop. He takes an additional second before slightly turning his head in Santiago’s direction, “Excuse me?”

“You know—horses?” Santiago mimes holding the reins of a horse. “Ever ridden one?”

“You’re asking me if I’ve ever ridden a horse.” Even through the modulator in his helmet, Minhkhoa’s voice is monotone. Little to no interest to be had in this interruption. “I fail to see what this has to do with the task at hand.”

“Nothing, nothing, I was just…curious. I have horses, back home. Three of them. Pure bred, beautiful creatures. Fast, too. I used to race, but now I just ride in my free time.”

“And?”

“And I was just…wondering. If you’d ever ridden. Or if you’d like to, when all of this is over.” Asking in the middle of a mission makes Santiago feel awkward, but there’s never a good or non-awkward time to ask. Batman Incorporated is always busy, and Ghost-Maker never opens himself up to casual conversations. In fact, Santiago has come to learn that nothing about Ghost-Maker is casual. But it’s better a less than stellar time, than to never ask at all, right?

He’s largely expecting Ghost-Maker to brush him off, anyways. Especially when Ghost-Maker merely turns back to his computer screen, fingers rapidly typing.

But the other man’s distorted voice filters out of his helmet, “Only if you let me ride the black and white one.”

Santiago did have a black and white horse. How that knowledge found Minhkhoa was completely unknown to him—but he knew better than to ask, lest he lose all his preconceived notions about his own identity a well kept secret.

people will call them discrimination comics as the punchline to a joke and then when a boycott comes around in an attempt to rectify said discrimination they’ll shut them down in 3 days for not being specific enough instead of using their own initiative and then go back to calling them discrimination comics and not reading for any black characters/characters of colour ever
