In response, Andromeda simply smiled. She was probably one of the few people who definitely knew that nothings come easy. Was it family or work or anything that had to do with her life, things that you want, you always have to fight for. For a long time in her life, she did just that. But there was also a part in her life, through which she drifted with a veil dropped over her eyes. She could see the outlines of the people, the shadows of each individual but nothing more. The remainder had to be described by the one walking next to her. she had to be told what each person was, what they did, and how they did it. For a good while, she didn’t even question the right from wrong, though now, as she looked at the world with her own eyes, there was no right or wrong. Simply blurred lines that fused into each other. That was exactly why she chose to be neutral. She felt that she could never be good because she didn’t have it in her. Whatever her father and mother taught her ran so deep in her blood, that she didn’t think she could reverse. Plus it didn’t help that the people she cared for were mostly in the Death Eater side. Of course, there was her cousin, Sirius, who was blatant with the order. But that wasn’t a place for her. Yet, the death eaters? That seemed like a foolish idea to her. There seemed to be a power struggle. Those who wanted glory for one thing and those who wanted glory for the other. Andromeda didn’t believe that the order fought a good side, nor that the bad side fought for the evil. They were simply opinions. Both forced upon one another. As neither could live with the thought of existing together.
“I think here, without patience… People tend to drift away from what they want.” A smile crossed her pinky lips. Some things you could not be impatient in the ministry. For some things you had to wait for; if it was a position, a spell or a potion. Everything took time, and rushing it? Would only ruin the hard work. Andromeda was not going to waste her life and not reach what she wanted just because of some inkling. She was a Black, and after all, nothing was going to stop to get what she wanted.
Turning the quill between her fingers, Andromeda sucked in her lower lip. “Yes, but this time it is different.” And a first for her. So far, the people they looked into, she had barely known or not cared for. Most of the time, she found the information herself, showing it in front of the faces that deemed most influential. But as her eyes focused on the name written on the parchment, she felt her stomach turn. Not that she cared for the man, but rather his son. “You’re not going to like this.” She warned. “Rafael Nott.” She finally said, looking up to watch the features of Dolena carefully. She knew somewhat of the relationship with Stefan and her, and she knew this was going to be nowhere easy. “They’re saying that something doesn’t match. That there is something wrong with another person involved and they need to know everything. Who his wife was, his grandfathers, his crimes. Anything.”
Dolena chewed on the other witch’s words for a moment before nodding. “The need for patience is circumstantial. Sometimes it is a valued virtue, other times it makes getting to goals much harder. Like much else, it is a balancing act that no one seems to get right every time.” The Greengrass heiress would not deal with inconveniences that didn’t benefit her. Or interactions that made her appear weak. Nor would she coddle incompetent people in her place of work, unless she absolutely had no other choice.
The word different warned the older witch that she needed to control her reaction. Be calculated and quick. Anything she did needed to come off instinctually. “Every case is different, Andy, it keeps life from being too boring.” But she could sense that this was not going to be good. If Andromeda looked so on edge about it and hesitant to tell Dolena, it was likely to be problematic. Had her cousins done something? Bash was less likely than his brother, but they were still trouble makers. She hadn’t even thought that anyone could be investigating Stefan or Gabrielle, simply because the two never did anything wrong, well, Stefan didn’t without covering his tracks a hundred times over. Then the name was dropped in her lap. Rafael Nott. Dolena let her shoulders relax, though, she wanted to let the tension take over. “I thought you were going to say one of my cousin’s was in trouble.” Still, she allowed herself to pretend to process this information, like it was absorbing into her mind just now. She let out a breath. “Rafael...Out of all of the pureblood men, I’d say he’s probably one of the best. After all, he married Oleander and raised Gabrielle as his own,” That was an overstatement, all of it. He wasn’t as bad as Hiram, but he was still set in his own ways. “After her father left them. I’m not...” She paused, pretending to think out her words before speaking, “I’m not happy to be looking into his life, but I don’t believe that there’s anything to find on Rafael. Looking into his life won’t hurt him if he’s the man I know him to be.” Careful and cautious. Stefan had to get it from somewhere. “I’ll pull his information. He’s been married twice to my knowledge, and a well recorded lineage, hence he, like us, was part of the Sacred 28.” Dolena would tell Stefan the moment she could leave the office, or that Andromeda did.

stcfcn:
Stefan has spent a long time pretending as if he did not have any feelings for Dolena. Or at least he had tried his hardest to hide how he felt. He had always assumed he was terrible at it but it seemed he had quite succeeded in the earlier years. Once the floodgates had finally opened though, it had been impossible for him to hide how much he really wanted her. Not that he tried to hide it. There was entirely no point in doing so anymore, at least for now – and he hoped that the time won’t come when he would have to shut himself back up again and act like he could be just friends with her. Because truth of the matter was that he couldn’t. Not now, not ever – he never had been able to, not without losing his damn mind.
“Not worth it?” His brows rose as the other teased him about slacking off, and while he could see the obvious jest behind the words, he couldn’t help what he did next – his reaction was pretty much a reflex, a dire need to make her take her words back, especially when she spoke of her fiance who’s name he would prefer never to have to hear again in the next hundred years. “Such a huge sacrifice.” he scoffed as he leaned into her, the fingers of one hand resting on her thigh and the other tangling in her hair, making her tilt her head slightly as his lips went to find her neck. He began to press soft kisses, his teeth grazing against her skin. As always, the moment he touched her, he only became hungrier for more – he didn’t think he’d ever have enough of her. “You don’t have to go with me if you don’t want me, Doll.” he murmured, daring her to refuse him. As much as the woman affected him in ways he couldn’t fully comprehend, he knew it was just the same with her. His hand swept up her thigh and his lips left a trail of kisses on her skin, moving up to devour her lips. It was after all, what he had wanted to since the moment he had set eyes on her that evening.
There was something satisfying about the way Stefan had reacted to her words. Years of pining after him in silence, of wishing he’d open up his eyes and see her the way she saw him. And he had. They’d wasted so much time that they could have had together. And now? They had this, whatever it was. Both loving one another, but not being able to make it official. Not when Hiram elected Boris the Boring to be her fiance. It wasn’t that she cared much for her father’s approval, but even being away from him, she knew that if he cause for it, he’d take the things she loved most away from her, or take her away from them. Stefan still only knew half of the truth and she wondered if he could love her if he knew. At least she had this time with him.
“Well, if you can’t preform adequately, I’m not going to fake it.” Her face was straight, but there was a sparkle of amusement in her eyes. Tugging ever so gently on her lips. Getting him riled up was one of her favorite past times. But then his hand found her thigh and his other moved to her hair. His lips were on her neck. A desperate sound rose in her throat, passing quietly through her lips. It was just loud enough for him to hear it and only him. She curled her fingers into his hair, pulling him closer as a shiver ran up her spine. “I don’t know if I can make it that far.” Dolena murmured, because no one set her ablaze like he did. If anyone else had challenged her like that, they’d have been using their own hand that night. But Stefan was different. He’d always been different. Her free hand gripped his shoulder, lips eagerly meeting his own as she readjusted from her spot on the bar stool and climbed onto his lap. He was her oxygen and she’d been underwater for days. The brunette was necessary for her survival. Her teeth caught his bottom lip between them and she pulled away slowly, eyes opening to look at him, even though she couldn’t remember shutting them. “If you don’t take me home now, this bar is going to get a hell of a show.”

verevivere:
Dolena Greengrass definitely had a name for herself. Not only because of who her father was or where she worked but because of her actions and behaviors. Andromeda had noticed a pattern with other interns that she had met. No matter what they had to their name, or how confident they were they all seemed to fear the woman. They had a reason for that, of course, or at the very least they had crossed her path in a way that they brought it upon themselves. Really, they only had themselves to blame.
Andromeda willed to stop herself, as those kinds of thoughts were something that the Blacks would have incorporated, and she herself tried so hard to make herself neutral. Was it neutral? Her own behavior, much like Dolena, but in a different scenario, using her skills to get what she wanted - wasn’t any better. Much like her own sisters she would still fight for what she wanted, no matter what cost. So did that mean she hadn’t completely turned the leaf for what she wanted? Was it what she wanted anyway? Though that was the road she didn’t want to go to, yet. A dangerous road that she would cross only when it mattered.
Getting her attention back to the beautiful woman, Andy grinned. “I do not think anyone would even have a thought cross their mind to take anything that is yours. I admire that.” Because her family did not have any male heirs, her father thought them to have their own strength. Though she knew soon, they would be married and then possibly give their strength over to them, Andy wasn’t about that. She liked having her own power far too much. Pressing her lips, her shoulder moved in a shrug. “I would say something clever about that. But honestly, fathers are just…” She put up her hands, waving them in a dismissal action as she rolled her eyes. Daddy issues had to be a very popular subject between the pureblood women.
As Dolena proceeded to write their order, Andromeda took the parchment paper and the quill that she came with and proceeded to read through what she had written down before. “Right, so this is not an active case per se.” The law enforcement liked doing things by the blog, which was why they had lawyers there. But a lot of the times, such as now, they simply looked for reasons to have dealings. Good for the business and good for the side most people were on. There were not too many people with ‘good’ that resided in their offices. At least not enough who lasted. “This will have to be kept under wraps for when they are ready.”
Growing up as the daughter of Hiram Greengrass, with no one around as a buffer after her sister and mother had passed, Dolena had been taught how to survive. Not just survive Hiram, nor life, but the world. The ministry was hardly a challenge for her after her first week. The more time she was there, the more she learned about each person that she came in contact with. When people didn’t play by her rules, she retaliated. When she retaliated, it wasn’t just once. It was until they either left the ministry, or gave into her whims. If neither happened, it simply wasn’t over. That’s the type of person that Dolena was. But, she did it in a way that she didn’t receive any serious consequences. And if they stayed out of her way, off her radar, then they didn’t have anything to worry about. Lest they be muggleborns. But that was a whole different wizarding game.
“I’d be lying if I told you that such things came easily, Andromeda. However, it’s most definitely worth the effort if you haven’t the patience to deal with idiots.” Though, there were still plenty of idiots that attempted to cross her. Others that wanted to know why she wasn’t a full fledged death eater. But, she could wear a sleeveless dress without having to cover up that ghastly mark. Even if she agreed that muggleborns and their kin should perish, just as Allison had. As the younger witch spoke about fathers, Dolena’s stomach attempted to lurch into her throat, as it often did at the thought of the deplorable man. But that wasn’t information that others, Stefan only recently excepted, were privy to. “So long as they line our banks, I haven’t any complaints.” She laughed, as if her father were one of the okay purist men. It was nice to know that Andromeda, and likely her sisters by extension, had Daddy issues, though. That information could be tucked away for later use.
“Of course it isn’t. Just law enforcement digging for information because they haven’t got enough to bag someone.” She commented offhandedly and then blew softly on the parchment to dry the ink, “It happens more often than not. I dig up familial dirt.” Among other things, but that was not up for discussion. She touched the pad of her pointer finger to the ink, and when it didn’t stain her skin, she folded the parchment and pushed it into an envelope. With a quick address on the front, she placed the order into a tray on her desk that was labeled ‘Urgent’ and it whizzed off of her desk to be sent. Finally, her baby blues raised up to meet the pretty witch’s face and she nodded. “They wouldn’t have sent you to me if they questioned my ability to keep a secret, I assure you. But, you’ll have to share the name with me to pull the documents on them.”

They are given a gift they dislike:
That depends on who gave it to her. If it was Rod, Rab, Stefan, Gabrielle, or a select few others she sees as family, she’d learn to love that gift. She’d be happy about it, because it’s from them.
From anyone else, she’d look at it in confusion and ask, “What on earth made you believe I’d want this?”

They get stood up/broken up with:
She is okay, she will plot their demise with a smile on her face. (Unless it is Stefan, but that’s another can of worms.)

stcfcn:
“Yet.” he said with a teasing smile on his lips. The grip on his glass tightened a tad as the other leaned into him and whispered in his ear. He didn’t know if he loved or hated the effect the woman had on him. He could get him to do anything for her with just a blink of an eye – it was how it always had been with Dolena. He turned to face her slowly, his eyes falling on her lips, being going up to meet her gaze. “I am not tired just yet, you can keep me up all night if you wanted.” he murmured, leaning into her when she moved away. With his busy schedule what he had missed most was being able to spend as much time as he wanted with Dolena, but it seemed like it was needed especially after she had gotten betrothed. He had resorted to taking more shifts, keeping himself busy so that he did not go around murdering the man she was betrothed to and loathed more than anyone else. She had made her disdain for him clear to Stefan and yet, he wondered if perhaps at some point he would lose her because of him. “Go home with me, it feels like a eternity since I last spent time with you.”
“Yet.” She agreed with a smirk. It was still a possibility. It was always a possibility. Dolena’s smirk only grew as her blue eyes observed the way he reacted to her. It was positively intoxicating, the way he responded. Had she known earlier in their lives that he’d want to take their friendship to the level that they had grown to enjoy now, she’d have indulged herself in this brand control earlier. Basked in the closeness that she’d experience again when she went home with him that night. The witch reached out with her free hand to stroke his cheek, “Are you sure? I don’t want you slacking off. Then it just isn’t worth it for me.” That was a lie and one she was certain they both recognized as such. Any time they were intimate, it was breathtakingly right for her. Not just the physicality of it, but emotional side as well. Damn his work schedule and her own for taking up their time together. Even if they did live next door to one another. “Well, I would have to miss seeing Boris in order to do that.” She sighed, giving a faux look of disappointment. “Which means I might not have a reason to stab myself in the ears to drown out his voice.” Not only would she piss her betrothed off, again, but she’d make her father angry as well. Dolena took great satisfaction in doing so, as his ability to punish her anymore was nearly non-existent. “But for you, I guess I’d be willing to make such a painful sacrifice.”
verevivere:
Andromeda grinned and Dolena. “That sounds familiar.” It wasn’t as if Andy hadn’t done things herself in order to secure the fact that only she would be the one considered for the position from summer onwards. Even if she distanced herself from her family, it didn’t mean she simply forgot who she was. Y=After all, you can take her out of the Blacks, but you can take the Blacks out of her. There were things she was embedded with, and winning was definitely one thing she couldn’t miss out on. So what if it means some work missing for the other interns, so what if suddenly they were not able to finish their tasks? Andy knew what she wanted, and she simply gave the Ministry a push towards the right choice. “Oh no, tears show weakness. That was what my mother always used to tell us. If the tears are honest it shows weakness, if a man falls for tears, then they show weakness. Drop by drop.” First, Andromeda put the parchment she was holding on the table before moving to grab a chair. With ease, she picked up the wooden object and placed it in front of Dolena’s desk. “I am not a fussy eater, so I would suggest getting the most expensive thing on the menu. It’s bound to be delicious.” She was familiar with the place, even dined there when she was younger. “where would you like me to start?”
The genealogist wouldn’t be surprised if Andromeda had heard it. Some of the other interns had been slightly horrified and many of the high ups had been peeved, as the boy had been a promising candidate for getting an actual position. Others had found it entertaining. “I’m not surprised. I’m not sure what the last person that held my position did, but by the state of some of the documents, it’d make since that they’d had interns rifling through them.” It wasn’t meant to be a slight at the girl, or the interns, it just wasn’t as simple to keep track of intertwining documents and was easy to have things get filed in the wrong location if one didn’t know what they were doing. Plus, she had been tracking muggleborns and wasn’t willing to risk someone finding out about that. Especially not Adromeda, who was on the outs with her family. “My father didn’t put it so delicately, but the message was roughly the same.” Hiram Greengrass had never given any mind to anyone’s tears, unless it was to degrade them for crying, or find joy in their torment. “A woman after my own heart.” She complimented, dipping her quill into an ink jar and scrawling the order onto the parchment. The tab would be rather outrageous and Dolena knew that the man would march down to her office once he put two and two together. She would be waiting, teeth bared with venom waiting to pour out. “First, what’s the name and presumed blood status of the defendant?”
Dolena Greengrass
verevivere:
With a parchment and quill at hand, Andromeda was ready to take on a list of things that Dolena was going to throw at her. It wasn’t news to her, most of the departments used her as a to-do list, to help them remind themselves how important they were. Of course, Andy herself finished the lists, making sure that her work was outstanding, and not once had she failed. Curving her lips in a small smile, Andromeda nodes her head. “Yes, it is precisely why they send me here.” There was no reason to argue or try to defend anything. The one thing she learned working with a bunch of lawyers was that each person was for their own and honestly was always better than some flimsy lie. “Most of the time, they try to send me to different departments to try and see me get chewed out and maybe cry in a corner. They haven’t succeeded too far, so I guess they’re trying their luck with you.” Yet, the dark-haired woman smiled and the other, a change was always welcome. “That’s much better. I’m starving and I can just tell you that I’ll help with whatever you need me to.” It wasn’t that she hadn’t done something similar before. With the parchment still in her hand, Andromeda looked around the room. “Perhaps I could also get you something? Some files you need me to fetch? I’m here to make your job easier, and I intend to do just that.” A job was a job, no matter who you worked for.
Dolena had been raised by a lawyer, herself, and knew how undesirable of creatures they were. Her father worked privately, not for the Ministry, of course, but the majority of those in the profession seemed to be the same. This was a chance to remind a witch that her blood status could still be appreciated while also playing a new game with an annoyance. It just worked out that the latter was a boss to the former. “Well, they have good reason. One of the interns they sent down here quit. In my defense, the poor fool nearly destroy twenty years worth of documents.” She confessed with a bemused smile. The witch had nearly hexed him, his only saving grace was that they were in a ministry building and she didn’t want to get in trouble. “It’s not worth your tears anyway, Andromeda. You have the potential to surpass them all and they’re simply trying to snuff out that flame.” After all, the Black family was most notable, like her own, and the younger witch seemed to have some strength to her. Insecure men feared strong women. “Good, I’ll get our order out right away then. Why don’t you pull one of those chairs over to the desk and we can get started once I’ve sent the owl?” She suggested, motioning to the guest chairs opposite her own while she began to scrawl something onto some parchment. “Anything special you’d like Falconmoor?” It was where quidditch managers would take players to sign contracts and the wealthy would dine on special occasions. It wasn’t exactly a takeaway spot, though, there were always exceptions to any rule.
