Being trans is like being given a house that sucks. The pipes are leaky and the wallpaper is so ugly and the beds are lumpy and you feel uncomfortable every time you set foot in there.
Everyone else seems to really like their houses though, and you canât see inside of them, so you just assume that youâre being weird.
And then you hear about the construction project thatâs happening down the road. And you didnât know that was an option. You can justâŠfix your house? It can be better? You donât have to live with the horrible lighting and weird furniture?
But other people scoff at the construction. They complain about the noise. âWhy canât they just be happy? The plumbing is great and the furniture is so comfortable! Why would you change it? And why do we have to deal with all their issues anyways? They could just do it quietly, away from us!â And you thought everyone hated their houses, at least a little. And itâs so much work to renovate. Itâs fine in your house. It sucks, but itâs fine.
Then one day you try putting up a new painting. Something small. Just for you. Just to try it. And it feels like you. It feels right. And you didnât know anything felt that good, ever. So you start to do more. And more. And eventually you might even start construction. And itâs inconvenient, and loud, and people complain, but you didnât know that it could feel good to go home.
And then, one day, your renovations are done. And you get to have a home like everyone else. And that joy you felt looking at that painting? Itâs everywhere now. And itâs normal.
Itâs hard to build the home for your soul all on your own. But itâs worth it. Itâs so worth it
ah yes, the three genders: the broken, the beaten, and the damned
"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, being spent on species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.
it doesnt make sense that a penis would get bigger if yoiu jerk it off youre literally compressing it. go crumple a can rn and tell me its bigger im not buying this narrative

Emos & scene kids got this close to abolishing gender for real. I try not to think about it too much.
The idea of a popular teenage subculture where girl & boys pretty much all dress the same feels impossible now but for a while it was reality and it was beautiful.

the one negative impact of Project Hail Mary is that gay people on tumblr donât think of Ryan Gosling as the guy from âhey girl I mean theyâ anymore
i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service youâre organising" one of the tags responding said "this isnât about proshippers in here youâre not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.
There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.
For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.

Local LGBTIQ+ organisation LEGABIBO welcomed the governmentâs move, describing it as âa necessary and long-overdue step toward restoring dignity and aligning our legal framework with constitutional values of equality and human rights.â The group said the change sends âa clear message that LGBTIQ+ persons are not criminals, and that their lives and relationships deserve protection, not punishment.â LEGABIBO noted that the colonial-era provisions had long cast a shadow over the lives of LGBTIQ+ people in the country.

Amazing that we call him the cookie clicker guy and not the "this website's hate mail game is insane" guy because one of those things had a much bigger impact on Tumblr culture than the other
