christian bad driver: my guardian angel watches over me, I don't need to look before I merge
atheist bad driver: I will rely on my own skill to see myself safely home after a mere 8 drinks
agnostic bad driver: no one knows where all these dents and scratches came from
Call me a commie if you must, but I just have a hard time believing that we should all be paying the price and dealing with the consequences of choices made by a handful of billionaires.

my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this
If you could restart your life from age 15 with all the knowledge you possessed now, so that you COULD go back and fix all your regrets/mistakes, would you do it?
Yes
No

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

let’s talk about how they made it impossible to function without a phone and digitalised everything and then turned around and went “actually! these phone things aren’t safe for kids but it’s magically ok once you’re eighteen. guess you’ll have to have your life dictated by your parents now lol cause we’re gonna take the devices away from you. IT’S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING”
ok my apologies. take away my ability to buy anything too ig because these fuckass stores don’t accept cash anymore. take away my ability to communicate with people outside my house and school because I can’t text and I can’t email and I cant drive to them either and I can’t even fucking get public transport without a phone either. can’t order at a fucking restaurant without being asked to get a membership and install an app and also very sorry but you can only order through our online menu now! have you ever considered that it’s not just about instagram?
NOTIFS WERE OFF SO I HAD NO IDEA THIS BLEW UP but anyway my point stands. if you wanna take my phone away then fucking let me exist without one
i love this guy
Your dialogue is stiff because everyone is being too honest
Great dialogue can come from radical emotional honesty. But in most real conversations, people
dodge questions
answer indirectly
lie (badly)
change the subject
crack jokes to avoid serious answers
lie (convincingly)
say half of what they mean
tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying
If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.
Subtext is where tension lives.
more so,
people don’t always speak in full sentences,
slang can change depending on age range, demographic, etc. &
don’t be scared of vocal pauses (uhm, uh, err)
Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
Hell yeah CLRG!
[id screenprint of tweets madeline odent @oldenoughtosay.com In 'terrible but also funny' news, the state of Florida is currently beefing with… An Coimisiiin Le Rind Gaelacha, aka the world's largest and oldest governing body for Irish Dance because the NA championships are being held in Orlando and CLRG refuses to ban trans girls from competing as girls 2:16 AM • Jul 2, 2026
madeline odent @oldenoughtosa… the transphobia is terrible and very predictably in line with Florida's current bullshit but also CLRG simply does not give a fuck madeline odent @oldenoughtosa… The reason men's and women's categories are separate in Irish dance is because the actual dances are different, not because it matters what body a dancer has. The actual steps are just different madeline odent @oldenoughtosa… Which makes it very very clear that once again the bigotry is the point! Which CLRG and also anyone who knows anything about Irish dance knows end id]
