Oh yeah, I'm more or less back into drawing now. I guess the opposite of what usually happens when an artist becomes a primarily NSFW artist happened to me, since after losing my ability to make money through art, I no longer really... Care about creating things that other people consider pretty or aesthetically pleasing. I'm a very sex-positive person and my sexuality is a big part of who I am, so I'm mainly just drawing NSFW nowadays. And since Tumblr REALLY doesn't like that kind of content and I'd like to keep this blog, I'm going to be posting significantly less often, because most of my new art depicts stuff I can't show here.

So yeah. Mainly on bsky now. Should probably make my own website at this point, but it's too much work to figure out right now. I'm doing pretty okay despite the additional struggles from not being able to do art for money anymore.

Oh, and if you're getting into Dorohedoro because of the second season of the anime coming out, I strongly recommend just reading the manga. You'll get significantly more of the same story told in a more well-paced manner.

Some people have been curious about my relationship with visual kei as of late, since I've gradually retconned most band-related stuff regarding my OC story and no longer really post any art that seems like it's inspired by it, so I want to talk about that a little bit.

I do still listen to the bands I liked the most out of the scene, I sincerely love their music and artistry, and it's not like I ever liked the subculture itself out of peer pressure, but I feel like a significant chunk of how I *interacted* with it came from external pressure. I think it's probably because visual kei resurfacing in the 2020s was largely through short-form video trends on tiktok, and the scene was RIDDLED with a competitive, hostile mentality around comforming to the beauty standard of the tiktokified version of the subculture. I even developed body dysmorphia, because I look absolutely nothing like the standard of a tall, skinny and dainty idealized version of a "vkei" person this shift in the scene started treating as the ideal. I felt like my art needs to reflect being into it or else I'm not a "real" fan, and in retrospect, that was very stupid of me. I went in too deep trying to find a sense of community with these people, and my artistic expression became inauthentic in the process.

The thing that made me realize I need to stop was going to a local Jiluka concert, and the behaviour of people there pretty much instantly snapped me awake from this mentality. I'm not saying dressing the part is a bad thing, not at all! People are very much allowed to copy the style of these artists and spread it around, I think that's a beautiful thing! It's just that the concert was one of the worst I have ever been to, simply because there was no excitement in the crowd whatsoever. I'm not joking. Everyone was standing still and quiet even when the band was trying to rile them up MULTIPLE TIMES, because they were filming on their phones and didn't want their videos to turn out bad. Some filming the band, and some just straight up filming themselves. I got weird looks for shouting along with the band, jumping and banging my head. One person even told me to shut up because their phone was picking it up. Someone stole one of their water bottles. Someone even stole Sena's piercing jewelry that had fallen off, and instead of trying to give it back to him, they bragged about it on social media and tried to sell it. It gave me so much secondhand embarrassment, I swore to stop trying to please these people and try to be more authentic with myself.

Which I am now. I still listen to the music because I love how it sounds. The style still affects how I dress, and I'm grateful of how it has changed me. But I'm not very into the idea of interacting with the fanbase anymore, and so I have no interest in drawing art inspired by it. Of course it'll always have an influence on how my art has developed over the years, but I'm not interested in making art actually THEMED around it anymore. I'm just tired of it. It has turned into yet another music-based subculture I enjoy in private on my own time, just like everything else.

And no, this isn't made to shit on my local scene at all. I'm sure this isn't a region-specific issue, and that concert in particular was abhorrently managed in the first place. I don't blame any individual person in that crowd for my negative experience, and I acknowledge that it was a case of multiple factors contributing to it being awful. I still love finnish vkei fans and am friends with many of them. They're cool people.
