For two weeks, nothing had changed. Everything had grown even more stagnant — the consecutive failed operations, the revoked immunities, the way we looked in the eyes of the public...
We had held an internal meeting with the Night Spear team and decided that I would stay off the field for two weeks. During that time, they would continue training and working. I would keep working from home.
As for Jisung, everything was completely ruined. We had barely spoken for two weeks. I stayed in the study while he never left his schoolwork. Our conversations were reduced to short, informational lines like “Are you hungry?”, “Food’s ready,” and “I’m going to the store.”
I couldn’t go outside. Everyone knew my face, so they stared. Without immunity, they could even attack me. Who knew — maybe the moment I leaned my head out the window, I’d take a bullet straight to the middle of my forehead.
While I was working in the study, the door opened. It had to be Jisung. But when the knock came, I realized it was Chan. Jisung usually wouldn’t disturb me when I was in here. When I said “Come in,” Chan stepped inside.
“There’s something you need to see.”
“Is it that important?”
“I think you should decide that yourself.”
I threw a towel over my shoulder and left the room. Jisung was standing in the living room, his face covered in blood. His eyebrow was split, his lip was busted, and his hands were badly deformed.
“What happened here?”
“A gang attacked him. I saw it on my way home. I barely managed to pull them apart — I even had to fire a warning shot in the air.”
His eyes were swollen from crying. He wouldn’t even look at me unless I forced him to. I grabbed his chin and turned his face toward me.
“Don’t pity me,” he said, roughly pushing my hand away.
I went to the hallway cabinet, grabbed the first aid kit, and came back. First I cleaned his hands and wrapped them carefully. Then I treated his lip and eyebrow.
“Find the attackers and lock them in the warehouse. Hyunjin will handle it.”
Chan sighed, grabbed his phone, and left the house. I put the kit back and returned to the living room.
“How many were there?”
“Am I being interrogated? Where’s the wire?”
“There’s no wire. Not even a camera. Now talk.”
“Four. Four men. They attacked at the end of the street. They wanted me to call you — they might’ve even come to the house.”
“You should’ve called. At least you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
“I’m not hurt. If I hadn’t done it, you’d be the one in this condition. Maybe you’d even be dead. Unlike some people, I don’t stab the people I love in the back.”
The people I love. He had said it. He loved me. He still loved me. My beautiful squirrel… I was hurting so much. Seeing him like that felt as if they had beaten me instead. If they had beaten me, it probably wouldn’t have hurt this much.
“I’m used to getting beaten. Call me next time.”
He said he wasn’t hurt, but he was in so much pain that he might have burst into tears the moment I left.
“Are you hungry?”
“No.”
“Alright, I’ll make rice and ramen. You like it, right? Of course you do.”
I went to the kitchen, took out the rice, washed it, and set it aside. While it cooked, I made the ramen. Jisung came into the kitchen.
“Could you not make it too spicy?”
“I know you don’t like spicy food.”
“I thought you might’ve forgotten.”
“How could I forget all the times I warned you in the notes when I sent food to your door while you were alone?”
“I never ate the last meal you sent.”
“I know.”
“Have you been watching me all these years, or was I just stupid for not noticing?”
“We don’t live in movies, you know. If I had sent someone from the team to watch you, who knows what they’d say to me.”
I had finished cooking while we talked. Maybe for the first time in a long time, I had laughed for hours. We didn’t talk while eating. After putting the dishes in the dishwasher, I returned to the living room.
Jisung went back to studying in his room. I was reading the last pages of my book when Jeongin’s call broke my focus.
“I’m listening.”
“We found the men. What should we do?”
“Wait. I’m coming.”
I grabbed my jacket and left the house. I reached the warehouse quickly, certain no one had followed me.
Inside, the four men were tied to chairs, hands bound, bags over their heads. Besides everyone else, there were two more people — Jeongin and Hyunjin.
They had been arranged from the one who caused the most harm to the least. I removed the bags from least to most. When I got to the last one, I drove a hard punch into him. He hit the floor violently.
“Come on, hit me now! Why are you scared? Weren’t you going to attack when you broke into my house?”
I aimed the gun at my waist and shot the man in the leg. He screamed in agony.
“I’ll kill every last one of you. Is this how you treat the people who protect the ones hiding your filthy asses?”
One of them had already started crying for forgiveness. Another had even wet himself. They were begging. I wouldn’t show mercy.
I silenced them one by one. The floor had turned into a pool of blood.
“Let’s go.”
Another team would come to clean up. We left the warehouse and went to Dark Dawn. Felix greeted us as soon as we arrived.
“You’ve made quite a mess again.”
“They deserved it.”
“The police unit will grow suspicious.”
I muttered something and went to my room. I was supposed to return tomorrow, but coming early wouldn’t hurt. I went to the training room, ran drills, gave a defense lesson, then left.
When I got home, Jisung was watching TV.
“Hello.”
“Did you kill them?”
“Yes. Now everyone knows who they shouldn’t mess with.”
“You didn’t have to. They were innocent civilians.”
“Listen, Jisung — no one can touch the people I love. Especially when even I don’t touch them. They can’t use them to hurt me.”
It was already late. If we stayed up a little longer, it would be one o’clock.
“Let’s sleep. Chan will be on watch.”
We turned off the TV and went to our rooms. I had a bad feeling. I took a shower, cleaned up, dried my hair, changed, and lay down. Sleep took over.
In the morning, Jisung had gone to school while I went to the base. We were training.
“How long will this continue?”
“I don’t know. The police will always be on our backs.”
“What about O.C.?”
“To hell with them. I don’t even want to hear the name Hwang. They stole my life — if it ended, I’d shoot myself.”
“Don’t say that, Minho. Everything will get better.”
“I hope so.”
We kept training when Jeongin burst into the room. “Chan sent an emergency call.”
•
The school corridors looked like any normal day. But something wasn’t right for Chan.
Looking out the window, he saw a black van parked in the schoolyard.
Men in suits with an infinity symbol stepped out. They didn’t look like teachers or parents. They were carrying heavy weapons.
He quickly pulled out his phone and sent an emergency signal to Minho.
“O.C is inside.”
As soon as he sent it, strange movements began in the corridor. Security guards started disappearing one by one without a sound.
Then muffled screams from a few teachers were heard. Gunshots followed. The worst part — Chan had no weapon.
Chan looked at Jisung in the classroom. He had noticed too and was frozen in place. The door opened.
A suited man walked in, scanning the class without drawing his weapon. His eyes locked onto Jisung. With a slight smile, he spoke:
“Today we’ll be having a very interesting lesson, children. I suggest everyone stay quiet.”
The class looked at each other in fear while Chan clenched his teeth.
Meanwhile, Minho had already begun moving. Jisung stared at the man from the O.C standing at the front.
The man smiled faintly. “Your father sends his regards.”
Jisung’s breath caught. “Why are you here?”
“Just to deliver a small message. Your father knows where you are and who you’re with. We wanted to show how easy it is to infiltrate.”
At that moment, the door burst open with a loud crash.
•
The moment we saw the emergency signal, we moved without hesitation. Jeongin and Hyunjin were with me. As we approached the school, the anger inside me kept rising.
“If Chan is trapped inside, we don’t have much time.”
Hyunjin examined the windows and nodded. “You go in from the front. We’ll reach the classrooms through the windows.”
Without wasting time, I pulled out the suppressed guns from my bag and strapped one to my waist.
Hyunjin handed me my mask, but I didn’t need it. I headed straight for the main entrance.
The moment I entered, I spotted an armed man at the corner of the corridor. He reached for his gun when he saw me — but I was faster. A silent shot dropped him to the floor.
While Hyunjin and Jeongin moved to the back, I went straight for the classroom.
I stopped at the door, gun aimed directly at the man’s head.
“You came to the wrong school.”
I tossed my spare gun and mask to Chan. He caught them immediately and put the mask on.
Before the man could react, I pulled the trigger. Chan shot the one coming through the door. The bullet struck his head, and he collapsed instantly.
Windows shattered as Hyunjin and Jeongin stormed into the classroom. Hyunjin took position at the door, covering the corridor, while Jeongin signaled the students to stay calm.
Just as things seemed under control, heavy footsteps approached from the corridor.
I narrowed my eyes. It was Jisung’s father. He walked into the classroom calmly, hands in his pockets, as if there were no danger at all.
“So here you are, Minho. I’ve been curious about you from the very beginning.”
I aimed my gun directly at him, but the faint smile on his face didn’t fade.
“Are you threatening me?” he asked.
Only when I started speaking did I realize how tightly I was clenching my teeth. Any harder and they might have shattered.
“Filth like you doesn’t even deserve to be threatened.”
Han Jaewon tilted his head slightly. “Are you the one who will deliver punishment?”
“I’m here to make people like you pay.”
Han Jaewon sighed. “You still don’t understand the scale of this. We came because we can. I can take everyone you love away from you.”
“You won’t even touch the people I love.”
I was ready to pull the trigger. I was just waiting for a single move. Then it happened.
Han Jaewon suddenly turned toward Jisung and drew his gun. Before the class could even process it, the gunshot echoed.
“No!”
The bullet hit Jisung directly. He staggered backward and fell. Screams filled the room. I tried to fire at Han Jaewon immediately, but he was already moving toward the door.
Hyunjin and Jeongin tried to react, but his escape route was prepared. He slipped out and disappeared into the darkness of the corridor within seconds.
I dropped to my knees beside Jisung. His eyes were wide with panic.
“Don’t close your eyes, my beautiful squirrel!”
I couldn’t lose him again. I wouldn’t allow it.
“Chan, call an ambulance!”
Jisung’s eyes were half-open, his breathing uneven. In a weak whisper he said,
“Don’t be sad… grumpy bunny.”
Just like before, I clenched my teeth to suppress my rage. Han Jaewon had come, delivered his message — and I would make him pay for it.

I was limping along with my injured leg. I knew I shouldn't be there, but I had to go. Taehyun and Yeonjun were helping me move forward by holding my arms. When we reached the car, one of the older men in front shouted loudly enough for everyone to hear. "Keep the children away!"
After shouting, one of the men in front pushed us back a little. After all, we were the only "children" there. "No," was all I could say. I tried to break free from Taehyun and Yeonjun and move forward, but the man held me tightly.
"Let go! He's my father, let go! Let me see him!" No matter how much I resisted, he wouldn't let go. The more I resisted, the tighter he held me, and each squeeze hurt more.
"Hyung, let go, you're hurting him. It's okay, I'll hold him." When Taehyun intervened, the man slowly let go of me. Seizing the opportunity, I quickly broke free from his arms and ran forward. It hurt, but I didn't care. I wondered if my father had suffered like this too.
When I saw him, I froze. I heard someone whisper, "Fuck." It was probably Taehyun or Yeonjun. My vision blurred. The horrific scene in front of me made me nauseous.
"Beomgyu, are you okay?" Someone hugged me tightly. I didn't know who it was. I just hugged them back and cried.
My father was unrecognisable. His skin was torn, parts of his body were scattered. His anatomy was exposed before my eyes.
I collapsed to the ground and buried myself into the person holding me. I wanted to vomit. I wanted to scream. I wanted to cry and rebel against everything. "It will pass, Gyu. I promise, it will pass."
Would it really pass? What if it didn't? I wanted to ask. I wanted to ask all the questions in my head.
I wanted to ask, "Why me?" But I couldn't. I just cried. That was all I could do. Run and cry. There was nothing else.
•
As promised, I went to Taehyun's house that evening. The others had arrived before me. After knocking on the door a few times, Yeonjun opened it. "You finally came, you idiot."
"I'm sorry." I clasped my hands together and waved apologetically. When he moved aside, I went inside. Taehyun's mother didn't seem to be home, so everyone was relaxed. "Hello, I'm here."
"Welcome!" I sat down like everyone else. Since no one was talking, I tried to start a conversation. "So... what are you guys doing?"
"Forget about that. What are we going to do about this?" Yeonjun implied something, but I didn't understand. Taehyun also seemed confused. "About what?"
"The creatures." To be honest, after what had happened, burning the village down and leaving seemed logical, but I kept that thought to myself.
"Maybe giving up is best. First Gyu, then Taehyun... I don't know," said Soobin. I understood him. None of this was normal.
"I think we should burn the whole town down and leave," said Kai. I looked at him. He had read my mind completely.
"I'm fine, guys. I won't change my mind," said Taehyun. He was always like that, brave. He could do the things we couldn't do without hesitation.
"What did the thing chasing you look like?" asked Yeonjun carefully.
"It was like a deer. Four legs, antlers. The strange part was its eyes. They looked like human eyes." I listened with fear and tension. It was the same creature I had seen that night.
"At least it had four legs," Kai muttered.
Soobin, "Kai!" After Soobin warned him, Kai closed his lips and fell silent.
I asked the next question. "How did you escape?"
"Honestly, I don't know. After I left you, I went home. When I entered the street, I saw it. We locked eyes for a few seconds, then I ran. It charged at me with its horns and I fell. When it got close, I thought I was going to die... but suddenly it changed direction."
My blood ran cold. My memories slowly began to take over my mind. "He changed his victim," I muttered.
Soobin, "Could that be true?"
"Let's go and see tomorrow," said Yeonjun. I agreed without thinking. He could have killed Taehyun there, but he didn't. There must have been a reason.
"Did you hear a gunshot?" I asked.
"No. I was fully conscious. I would remember if I had heard it."
"That night... the night I was with my father..." I swallowed and continued. This was the first time I had told anyone, and the weight of it crushed my shoulders.
"I heard the gunshot before I fainted while running. That day, everyone except us was in the village. So the person who fired the shot wasn't from the village." With every question and every answer, the labyrinth grew more complex. I didn't know if we could get out of here alive. But somehow, we had to.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in the middle of mud. The night was like a nightmare. As I slowly came to my senses, I remembered what had happened. After the gunshot, darkness fell. "No, my father."
I didn't know which side of the road I was on. In the darkness of the night, I didn't know where I was going. My left leg couldn't bear my weight properly. It was probably injured. Limping, I set off hours later. The village wasn't far, but I had to find my father first. Just as I was stepping towards the crossroads, I felt unbearable pain in my foot.
I stopped moving forward and tried to turn back towards the village. I didn't know what time it was, but everyone had woken up much earlier than usual. As soon as I entered the village, I heard screams from all directions. When I had no strength left to endure, I collapsed to the ground. My leg was throbbing so violently that I could have fainted from the pain at any moment. A hand grabbed my shoulder and pulled me towards it. When I opened my eyes, Taehyun was holding me in his arms and hugging me tightly. "You're okay, thank God you're okay."
I couldn't hear anything else. I only heard a buzzing sound. My ears were ringing and my leg was throbbing. I wanted to call for my mother, but I couldn't. I couldn't even cry. I felt myself being gently rocked. This time, my mother took me in her arms. She held me tightly. "Dad,"
"Your dad? What happened to your dad? Where is he?"
I opened my mouth, but no sound came out. I just stayed there. I heard a weak woman's voice. There was an old woman who lived in the village. She had a cure for every illness. She came towards me and looked at me. I only heard her say, "His leg is injured." "Carry him inside, I'll get the cream."
At the woman's request, someone lifted me up. I didn't know who it was. Shortly afterwards, I lay down on a soft surface. The woman opened my leg and applied the cream first. I didn't know if the cream was cold or if I was just sensitive, but I flinched. The woman applied the cream and bandaged it without hesitation.

Either we would all die together, or we would end this nonsense together. Okay, I'm being a bit silly. What could five young people do, after all? Five young people who didn't even know how to use a gun. It sounded ridiculous.
Only three days had passed since our conversation. We did nothing during those three days. Everyone minded their own business. Taehyun got better day by day. Physically, of course. Perhaps I was the only one who never fully recovered.
As expected, the authorities covered up the incident. They also stopped journalists who wanted to investigate. They left us alone with this terrible situation.
I went to the fields to help the others. Some fresh air would do me good. There weren't enough people. So, the more help, the better. No one wanted to leave their children behind and go far away anymore. Most of the children had come with us.
The field work didn't take long. Soon everyone gathered and we returned to the village. Soobin and his dog were with me. We hadn't seen each other since the day we spoke. "How are you? I haven't had a chance to talk to you."
"I'm fine, how are you? How was the city? Did you like it?" Soobin had gone to stay with his mother for a few days. He seemed to have liked it. He was smiling.
"Yes, it was good. I'm glad I went." We talked about this and that until we reached the end of the road. First, I went home and changed my clothes. Then I set off for Taehyun's house.
When I knocked on the door a few times, his mother opened it. To be honest, his mother didn't like me very much. She thought I was the one who had brought this problem upon them. When she saw me, her face fell. She was putting up with me until Taehyun got better. She was allowing me to come so her son wouldn't be upset. I'm sure she was very upset that I hadn't died that day.
"Hello," I hadn't even finished my sentence when I heard Taehyun's voice from inside.
"Gyu, is that you?" I saw him just behind the door. He looked at his mother and then at me. His mother smiled and told me to come in. She was only wearing a mask. She wore that mask so her son wouldn't see her. To hide her hatred.
"Believe me, I've been bored since morning. I kept coming over so you wouldn't get bored." He was both bragging and complaining like a child. I listened to what he said with a smile. "Soobin came back this morning. Just so you know."
"Then you'll all stay with me tonight. No objections, Gyu, I'm bored." I didn't want to hurt his feelings. So I accepted without protest. His mother must have agreed with me, because she accepted without question. I left a few hours later.
As soon as I got home, I went to my room. It wasn't my fault, was it? Nothing was my fault, was it? I buried my face in the pillow and cried until my eyes hurt. When I heard the doorbell ring, I quickly wiped my face. I hadn't even heard the doorbell ring because I was crying.
I lifted my head and looked at the door. My mother was looking at me through the crack in the door. "Mum, it's nothing important, don't worry."
She was smiling, but I could see the pain beneath that smile. I wanted to cry again, but I had no right to upset her. She had lost her husband and almost lost her son. It was very hard for her. Raising a child alone was very difficult. She carried a heavy burden on her shoulders. Above all, she had lost the man she loved.
"I'm serious, it's nothing important." I got up and took the book from the table. "It ended badly. My nerves are shot, I think I got too caught up in it." My mother came out from behind the door and entered the room. She hugged me tightly.
"I lost my mind for a moment, you silly child. Whatever the reason, I can't stand to see you cry."
"I'm sorry, Mum." She kissed me deeply and smelled me. I really needed that. I realised it when she hugged me tightly. I continued to cry silently, without letting anyone know.

It was as if I was reliving that moment. As if I had returned to the beginning. I had no idea what would happen if I experienced the same things again. If I lost someone else I loved...
"Taehyun, answer me! Are you here?" I pushed aside every bush and looked behind every tree, but there was no sign of him. I wanted to find him, but I didn't want to find him either. I didn't know how to find him. My eyes blurred with tears and I tripped over a branch and fell. If Yeonjun hadn't caught me, I would have fallen into the mud.
"Beomgyu, I understand you're worried, scared, but pull yourself together. We won't find him like this." I couldn't even understand what Yeonjun was saying. There was sound, but my brain couldn't process the words. It just sounded like a buzzing noise.
•
I woke up to noise from outside and a woman's screams. Everyone had gathered in the square. Taehyun's mother was standing in the middle, crying. My mother was talking to the other women at the door. "What's happening?"
Kai said, "Taehyun didn't come home last night." We were all together last night. We had returned home together with Taehyun. For a moment, the animal I had seen came to mind. My knees buckled for a second. I leaned on Kai's shoulder for support. "Are you okay, Gyu? Sit down if you want."
"Kai, we came back together. He came to my house. I waited for him to leave," Yeonjun and Soobin, who saw us, held their breath beside us. They had been searching everywhere since morning too. "We notified the city hall. The police will start searching soon."
"This isn't a normal kidnapping. I saw one of them again last night. It was an animal. Like a goat,"
Yeonjun said, "What are you talking about, Beomgyu? Damn it, they're getting too close to us." Yeonjun moved away from us and went over to the others.
Soobin said, "We're going out to search now. Kai, you stay here. Gyu, do you want to come?" I nodded in agreement. I couldn't just wait there without knowing what condition he was in somewhere in that forest.
We were searching for Taehyun in the forest with the sheepdogs, the police, and the villagers. Sean was with us too. Soobin and Sean were in front. Yeonjun and I were right behind them. The dog barked a few times. Sean had found something. The three of us went over to see what he had found. It was Taehyun's jacket. "Good boy, sniff this."
"Taehyun, answer me! Are you here?" I pushed aside every bush and looked behind every tree, but there was no sign of him. I wanted to find him, but I didn't want to find him. I didn't know how to find him. My eyes were blurred with tears when I tripped over a branch. If Yeonjun hadn't caught me, I would have fallen into the mud.
"Beomgyu, I understand you're worried, you're scared, but pull yourself together. We can't find him like this." I couldn't even comprehend what Yeonjun was saying. There was sound, but my brain wasn't connecting the words. It just came as a buzzing noise.
This time, we heard another dog barking, not too far away. Someone else had found something. I ran towards the sound. Taehyun was standing right in front of me, alive and well. He only had a few scratches on his face. "Taehyun, are you okay?" Ignoring those around me, I went over and hugged him tightly. He was standing right there in front of me, alive.
"I'm fine, my little bird, I'm fine. Just a bit tired."
One of the villagers covered his shoulders with the blanket he had brought. We all walked together to the edge of the forest. He couldn't put weight on his left foot, so he leaned on me for support as we walked slowly.
When we reached the village, his mother got up from where she was sitting and hugged her child tightly. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The police chief stepped between them. "Mrs Kang, I apologise for interrupting, but your son needs to make a statement."
His mother nodded to the police and went inside with her son. "Gyu, are you alright? You're still shaking." Kai touched my shoulder and I flinched. I was shaking uncontrollably. I realised this later. "Yes, I'm fine, let me go."
When Taehyun was found, everyone calmed down, but we were still tense. My mother and I went inside. She was as worried as I was. After all, the first victim was one of us.
•
Under the pretext of visiting him to help him recover, we all went to see Taehyun. Since it was evening, we would stay for a few hours at most and leave before it got too late. After all, it wasn't safe outside. "The police will try to cover up these incidents."
Yeonjun was right. In the newspapers, they had portrayed what I had personally experienced as a simple murder victim. Either they wouldn't report this incident, or they would present it as a simple missing person case. "Is this a cursed town?"
"Anything could happen, Kai. Nothing is normal." I didn't want to scare our youngest too much, but it was true. There was no logical explanation for what we were experiencing.
Taehyun said, "But my family has been in this town for years. Three generations were born here. They've never encountered anything like this."
"They're all different, none of them resemble each other. God, I'm going to lose my mind."
"Then let's investigate?" Soobin had truly lost his mind. Those things were wiping out everything in their path, and we, five ordinary teenagers, were going to investigate? It was truly insane.
"I'm in," Taehyun joined in. God, he was almost killed by those things last night.
Yeonjun said, "I'm in."
"If you're all in, I'm in too." When Kai agreed, everyone looked at me. If we got involved in this, we might not get out. We could die at the end of the road, but I needed to get involved in this the most. After all, I had revenge to take.

In the dim light of the operations room, the computer screens flickered softly. Chan and I were focused on the files and digital data in front of us. There were only a few hours left before the operation, and we were making final preparations.
Chan handed me the tablet he was holding. “These are O.C.’s latest activities. We still don’t know exactly what they’re storing in the warehouse, but they’re placing a lot of importance on this location.”
I glanced at the screen. “Suspicious. That’s an excessive amount of security for such an ordinary place.”
Chan nodded. “Also, I’ve been looking over these latest documents. We have some intelligence on the O.C. leader.”
“Who?”
Chan paused for a moment, then tapped the screen and opened a photo. A man in a black suit with a stern gaze appeared. “His name is Han Jaewon.”
I froze when I heard that name. It sounded familiar.
Chan continued in a low voice. “For a long time, we didn’t know who the O.C. leader was. He always stayed in the shadows, but our latest data confirmed his identity.”
I examined the screen carefully. The man’s facial features looked familiar. Then it hit me. Han Jaewon’s features closely resembled those of Jisung. “This must be a mistake.”
Chan shook his head. “No. We have old records. Han Jaewon disappeared years ago, but his connection to O.C. was always suspicious. It turns out he really was their leader.”
“Jisung doesn’t know this.”
Chan took a deep breath. “If it comes to killing him during the operation… what do you think Jisung will do?”
The room fell into a heavy silence. I thought of Jisung’s face. If this was true, we would have to prepare him for the biggest shock of his life—but how was I supposed to tell him?
“We won’t tell him now. Let’s finish the operation first.” Chan shook his head, but we both knew this was a dangerous secret.
•
The black-clad agents moved like shadows. Agents wearing jumpsuits bearing different symbols and carrying weapons marked with a solar eclipse entered the area.
Minho’s group, wearing jumpsuits bearing the fox emblem, advanced with perfectly coordinated movements. The warehouse outside the city looked like an abandoned factory, but inside lay O.C.’s most important secrets.
Minho adjusted his radio and whispered, “Be quick and quiet. No one can catch us.
Chan and his team hid in the shadows near the wall. “There are two men at the main entrance. We can get in from the back.”
Minho gave a silent signal with his hand. Hyunjin and Jeongin neutralised the guards without a sound. The team opened the metal door and slipped inside.
The warehouse was high-ceilinged and gloomy. Safes lined the walls, while ammunition and files were stacked on the shelves. What they were looking for was here.
Minho quickly opened one of the safes and scanned the documents inside. “Yes. What we’re looking for is here.”
Suddenly, a red alarm blared.
“Trap!” Hyunjin shouted.
O.C. men emerged from all sides. Gunshots echoed as bullets shattered the shelves. Night Spear was forced to activate its escape plan. But before the retreat could begin, a massive explosion tore through the factory.
After the operation failed, the police stormed the Dark Dawn base. Night Spear’s high-ranking members were arrested when they least expected it.
As Chan and Minho were handcuffed and loaded into police vehicles, Jisung struggled to understand what was happening. The chaos around him and the explosion footage flooding the news triggered something within Night Spear they had never faced before.
The public began labelling Night Spear as a terrorist organisation. Headlines like “Police Capture Night Spear!” flashed across television screens.
The police moved to revoke the immunity of those arrested during the operation. The members would be released after questioning, but the incident caused widespread public unrest.
One by one, the Night Spear members were taken to the police station. Jisung’s interrogation went more smoothly, as he hadn’t been actively involved in the operation.
Changbin began asking him questions. “Where were you during the incident? What did you see?”
Jisung’s thoughts were in chaos. He didn’t know what to say. The interrogators didn’t pressure him, knowing his role was minimal, but they still wanted everything he knew.
Jisung had countless questions in his mind. After everything that had happened so quickly, reality felt distorted. He couldn’t even remember if he had really been there.
•
I was interrogated along with the Night Spear members in a dark room. I sat silently, feeling nothing.
Seungmin asked questions directly related to the operation. “What is your relationship with O.C.? What was Night Spear’s objective?”
I didn’t respond. Then they placed a file on the table. The file contained the identity of the O.C. leader. As I read it, my body tensed. Every word echoed in my head. Jisung’s father was the leader of O.C.
“Are you trying to threaten me with this?” I scoffed. “Come on, Chief Inspector. Don’t be stupid.”
No matter how I spoke, shock had already taken hold of me. Even if I wanted to protect him, this truth couldn’t be buried. How was I supposed to tell Jisung?
Voices rose in the interrogation room. Seungmin tried to pressure me, but I brushed it off calmly. Still, my thoughts grew heavier with every passing second.
•
After his interrogation, Jisung went looking for Minho. When he finally found him, the serious look on Minho’s face made his chest tighten.
Minho was always calm, always composed—but now something was different.
“How long have you known?” Jisung asked.
“Known what?”
“My father. When were you planning to tell me?”
Minho fell silent. Chan stepped in quickly. “Jisung, you need to wait for the right time. This isn’t the place—”
“The timing doesn’t matter at all!” Jisung snapped.
He returned to the base in shock. The others had been released too, but the public’s questions hadn’t faded.
The police stated that everyone had been legally released due to their operational immunity, but that immunity ended the moment they walked free. Night Spear’s public image had been severely damaged.
When the team returned to base, it was clear that nothing would ever be the same.
Jisung still couldn’t accept the truth about his father. He avoided Minho, even though he knew how tangled everything had become.

The room was lit by the dim light of a single lamp on the ceiling. Jisung placed his handcuffed hands on the table, straightened his back, and fixed his gaze on the man opposite him. The leader of Dark Dawn narrowed his eyes and scrutinized Jisung carefully.
“Tell me who you really are,” said the man, tapping his fingers lightly on the table.
Jisung frowned. “You already know who I am.”
Felix shook his head. “You misunderstood. Who killed the man in the museum that night?”
Jisung’s breathing became irregular. In that moment, his mind drifted to another time.
Minho’s Room — Flashback
Jisung looked at Minho, his arms crossed over his chest. “I can’t say this is a good idea.”
Minho rested his arms on the table and moved closer to Jisung. “We have to do this. If they ask you questions, don’t say anything. Just tell them what they want to hear.”
Jisung sighed. “What about the DNA test? What if there’s my trace on that man?”
Minho showed him the small metal box in his hand. It contained a cleaned DNA sample. “This is the evidence we’ll give them. Not yours.”
Jisung rolled his eyes. “Is it that simple? We’ll frame someone with fabricated evidence and I’ll get out of here, is that it?”
Minho narrowed his eyes. “I’m offering you a way out.”
Jisung paused for a moment. He could see Minho was serious about this. “What if you get caught?”
Minho smiled, but there was nothing reassuring about it. “I don’t get caught.”
•
When Jisung returned to the interrogation room, the leader of Dark Dawn was still staring at him. “Who did it?”
Jisung answered without breaking eye contact. “Minho.”
Felix leaned back against the desk, narrowing his eyes. Just then, the door opened. Minho entered. He was holding a small file. He approached the table and calmly placed the file in front of the man. “The DNA results are here.”
Jisung raised his eyebrows and looked at Minho. The leader of Dark Dawn slowly turned his gaze to the file. After examining the results, he turned back to Jisung. “I see.”
The room fell silent and a tense atmosphere settled in. Minho moved behind Jisung and restrained his arms behind his back. “If there’s nothing else, we’re taking him.”
Jisung glanced briefly at Minho’s face. This was only round one. Minho grabbed Jisung by the arm and led him out of the interrogation room. They walked silently down the corridor.
Jisung clenched his arms. “Was it that easy? You gave them fake DNA and I walked out?”
Minho chuckled briefly. “Nothing was easy. I swear the police are still suspicious, but at least we have an advantage for now.”
Jisung shook his head. Silence reigned as they got into the car. Neither spoke except for the sound of the engine.
About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the apartment building where Minho was staying with Chan. Jisung looked around. “I didn’t know you were staying here.”
“I don’t want too many people to recognise me.”
Jisung sighed, took off his jacket, and sat down on the chair. He fixed his eyes on Minho. “So there was no harm in me knowing, was there?”
Minho paused for a moment, taken aback. “I trust you.”
Jisung let out a short laugh. “Interesting, because I don’t know how much I should trust you.”
“What do you mean? Do you realise I saved your worthless arse a few hours ago? You don’t have a choice but to trust me.”
Jisung fixed his eyes on Minho. “You can’t be serious. One day you were in my life, then suddenly you were gone. No message, no goodbye, nothing.”
Minho said nothing. He was right. If he were in his place, he would have slapped him.
“What happened, Minho? Why did you disappear? Why did you suddenly erase me?”
The atmosphere in the room grew heavy. He took a deep breath and looked silently at the floor. “To protect you. If I had stayed in touch, you would have been caught up in this life by now. You finished high school and are going to a good university.”
Jisung frowned. “To protect me? I didn’t know that.”
“If I had told you, you wouldn’t have left me alone. Things were already difficult back then. When things suddenly got serious, it was best to disappear. The less you know, the better. You always ask questions, you try to understand everything. But I didn’t want you to understand some things.”
Jisung clenched his fists. They were on good terms. Everything was going perfectly. Even when they were far apart, they trusted each other. “Did you decide this? Didn’t you even bother to ask me?”
“Yes. If you think you know me from those messages, you’re wrong. I’m not a good man. I do what I want, I make my own decisions. Now, I know best how to protect myself. Thousands of lives depend on my every command. That’s why I thought about it carefully back then. Don’t you dare question me again, Han Jisung, or I’ll put a hole in your head.”
He would tear apart anyone who dared break his heart, but now he had done exactly that. He was beginning to see Minho’s true face. Perhaps he would even curse himself for loving him, but he had to stop asking questions.
“But you came into my life, then left as if nothing had happened. Say what you will, Minho, but I will never forgive you.”
Minho couldn’t even look him in the eye; he just went to the gym and threw himself into his workout.
He didn’t know if Jisung believed him. But one thing was certain. This conversation wasn’t over.

Dark Dawn Base
The effects of the operation were still being felt. Some returned injured after the explosion. The air was thick with the smell of burning and dust. The emergency response team was working feverishly to tend to the wounded.
Minho, Chan, and a few others were discussing the results of the operation. One of them slammed his fist on the table in anger.
“We’re done for! The whole plan is ruined! Forget about taking the warehouse, we had to flee!”
Chan rolled his eyes. “At least we didn’t lose anyone.”
Minho silently assessed the situation. He sensed something was wrong. As if the operation’s failure wasn’t enough, that gnawing feeling wouldn’t leave him alone.
Just then, the sound of sirens outside sliced through the air like a knife. Jisung turned to the window with weary eyes. “So soon?”
Minho instantly grasped the danger. As he stood up, he touched the grip of the gun at his waist. The doors shattered. Special forces stormed in. Orders and chaos took over.
Summary: Chan is a former police officer and also a major figure in the Korean underworld. Minho is a powerful chief inspector. You will read about the clash between these two former friends and enemies. Sometimes they will be enemies, sometimes friends. Losses, betrayals and major twists will make the story even more dramatic.
Warnings: angst, mafia-like behaviour (beating people up, deception, fleeing from the police, etc.) No member-on-member shipping (unfortunately, the topic is not suitable for this). Minho and Chan are ex-lovers, but this is not emphasised. (I wanted to mention this for those who are sensitive to such topics.) Side shipping: Zoe Hyunjin (Zoe is a fictional character) and Seungmin Tzuyu.

Minho
Tzuyu conducted research on the Kim family and Russian news. This topic had not yet been covered in the news. The family had no criminal record. They had a joint tourism company, and the woman had a cosmetics company. After taking DNA samples, we could have identified Chan or those involved in this incident. We urgently went to meet with the family to obtain more information. We were warmly welcomed inside.
"We apologise for disturbing you, madam, but the sooner we act, the better." She welcomed us with understanding and promised to cooperate. "Has your husband had any strange incidents, behaviour, or abnormal situations recently? Does he have any enemies?"
Mrs Kim fell deep into thought. "Of course there were disagreements, but no one could be that ruthless. He'd been the same for the last few months, but he'd started working a lot outside the home. There were frequent meetings and arguments."
She paused for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts. "Something happened, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy. Now things are going well."
There was something odd about this. He couldn't be an ordinary man. Especially with the possibility of Chan. I discussed all the possibilities with him and told him to contact us immediately if anything happened, and I gave him my card.
"Thank you very much, Mrs Kim. We need to place you under protection. If someone who harbours resentment towards you does not stop and attacks your family, we must prevent it."
For the children's safety, she did not turn us away and accepted. We increased the number of guards and took security measures.
Felix said, "It was a good idea not to mention Chan."
"Yes, if he wasn't involved in this and we say he was, they'll live the rest of their lives on tenterhooks." We got into the car and headed for headquarters.
"Seungmin, you try to contact the government about the American woman."
If Chan got involved in this, he'd be making a huge mistake this time. All doors were closing on him. Perhaps he would soon play his final game and lose. You're nearing the end of the road, Chan.

Chan
As soon as I opened my eyes, we began examining the documents Jeongin had sent us. I adjusted my plan according to the new one. I had everything in my hands—who was who, how important they were. Changbin and I reviewed the plan over an unknown number of cups of coffee.
We had made plans from A to Z. We had to get hold of that woman somehow. If not her, then one of her children. We would get what we wanted.
"I wonder if they're awake?"
"They're not awake. Han was very tired. As for the other two, Hyunjin didn't want to wake the girl, so he put her to sleep by force."
I gently swirled the cup in my hand and watched the swirls in the coffee.
Changbin said, "They're still like children." They were. They always would be. Their childhood was over, but the child within them would never die. I couldn't allow that.
"I'll check on Han." I went up to his room and knocked on the door. When there was no answer, I opened the door and poked my head inside first. He was sleeping peacefully. There were no signs of fever or pain. The others were also fast asleep. I went downstairs to the kitchen. I started making fish cakes and bibimbap. When the food was ready, everyone gathered in the kitchen.
"We must finish the remaining work immediately, otherwise things will become even more complicated."
Considering all possibilities, we discussed and evaluated all our plans one by one. We made additions and deletions and decided on the final version.
Zoe would enter the company under a different name. She would be our inside man. She would learn about all the internal issues and report back to us. Then we would go in and take the goods from the bank. The money too, of course. Jeongin immediately sent a fake photo and ID. We started the plan right away.
We made the final preparations in front of the company. We set up the GPS, camera and listening device and sent them inside. "Right, I'm in, they took the bait, but the woman isn't here, nor is her family."
Then she must be at home. How will we get into the house? Or will we even be able to get in? We'll find out by trying. "Get out, Zoe, we'll go into the house at night and get the woman."
We quickly got into the car and scanned the area around the house. It was full of police and security guards. It would be very difficult during the day. "It looks like it's going to be harder than we expected."
//
With all the security and police present, this was quite difficult. We got support from Jeongin and entered the house with the men. The men immediately attacked. We surrounded the house from the back and front. There were no security guards or police left in the garden.
"Hurry up, backup is on its way," just as we expected. Lee Minho and his team had arrived. "Be careful, be careful!"
Han said, "There's no one in the house!"
Damn it, we were cornered now. I ordered my men to retreat and tried to get out of there. "We're out of here, hurry up!"
A large reinforcement had arrived. Getting out of there seemed almost impossible. "Take cover, I'll throw a white smoke grenade." When Han threw the white smoke grenade, we quickly moved to the rear.
Hyunjin, "Zoe's gone!"
"For God's sake, where is she?"
Hyunjin was about to go back, but I stopped him and went myself, though he followed me. Zoe was shot the moment she entered our field of vision.
"Bloody hell!"
"Hyunjin, we have to go!"
We barely managed to get out of there. We were tense and nervous. We were heading to Jeongin's mansion. "I left her there."
"If you hadn't come, we wouldn't have been able to bring her back."
Changbin said, "Chan is right, if she had come with us, we wouldn't have been able to go to the hospital either."
If anything happens to Zoe, I'll make them pay dearly. I'll wipe out Lee's entire family, even all his loved ones. Jeongin was waiting for us at the door. We went inside and a woman immediately started bandaging the wounded. "What happened? Are you okay?"
"Zoe was shot. The woman and children weren't at home; they'd taken them somewhere else."
Jeongin said, "Now the trouble begins."
//
Minho
The American meeting went as we expected. After a brief meeting, we obtained all the information. Zoe Hennig had received a good education. She had no significant criminal record. In fact, she could be described as a clean person. Her mother, father and siblings were also clean. She suddenly disappeared, but when she could not be found, the case was closed.
"Permission granted. We will take Kim Yeri to one of the private residences."
Thus, if Chan was involved in the incident, he would be caught and fall into the trap. We spoke with Russia and obtained information about Kim's whereabouts, but this yielded no results.
Chen said, "I brought the DNA results."
There were serious bruises on his body. A hard object had pierced holes in his shoulder and head. There were no bullet marks, and the holes were large. Tetanus was found in his blood. Something occurred to us, but we didn't want to believe it. After all the tests were completed, we left the centre to take him to the ceremony.
Sehun asked, "Will Chan be coming there too?"
"We must consider every possibility."
For security reasons, only first-degree relatives were present. Everything proceeded smoothly with a proper ceremony.
"Mrs Kim, we need to take you to another house. If someone else is involved in this incident, they could attack you and the children."
They accepted without objection, and we went home with the family. We had to coordinate with the units at the other house. I had to call frequently to check if anything had happened. The action we were expecting took place at midnight. They had attacked the house.
"Call Seungmin. Get the team from headquarters here immediately." This time, we all entered through the front door.
"Protect yourselves! Not even a bird can escape!"
Sehun shouted, "Watch out, white smoke is coming, be careful!"
White smoke and a deafening explosion occurred simultaneously. It was difficult to shoot the person who entered my field of vision. At the same time, I made eye contact with Chan and the man next to him. I immediately hid behind my shelter. Chan grabbed the man by the arm and dragged him away.
"Follow them!"
Chan and the others had escaped, but we had one man in our custody. Zoe Hennig was in our hands. Chan would do anything to get his man back. We were as sure of that as we were of our own names. Most people here were dead, but if the survivors knew anything, we needed to find out. The emergency services and police had arrived.
"How's the situation, Lee?"
"We've got one of the men."
Everyone who had been shot was taken to hospital by ambulance. No one had escaped unscathed, but the only card we held was firmly in our hands.
"How is she?"
It's hard to say for sure. We need to take him to hospital immediately. Only the doctors can give us detailed information.
Seungmin went to hospital by ambulance. We finished up at the scene. Chan would stumble a lot from now on. This time, I had won. 1-1. The score was finally even.

When the room became still with the voices and slight bickering disappearing, Chan took to picking up the mess that was the kitchen. Everything funneled from the living room into the sink and it had to be cleaned. The thought of alcohol sitting all night didn't sound nice when it would surely taint the air in a putrid smell.
Silent echoes from Chan cleaning everything from his less tidy members, found you in his bedroom as you got ready for the night. Just under that, the soft hum of Chan singing to himself the tune to the newest song which quickly got stuck in your head. Before leaving you offered to help as some of the mess was yours and cleaning together sounded fun when you were a little tipsy. To no surprise, he wouldn't let you touch a single plate. “Really it's fine. You'll want to freshen up before I start the dishwasher or there won't be any hot water,” he said which finally convinced you to take his offer.
As you ran your fingers over the soft fabrics of his designer clothes all you could think was that these must have cost hundreds, if not more. You tried to find one that seemed plain but even the black shirt with no print had a small F logo on the tag. When you re-entered his presence wearing nothing but shorts and one of his clean shirts, the gasp from his lungs was so loud you could hear it even with the water running.
“Is something wrong?” you asked, concerned by his face that looked like he would explode, but in what way you couldn't tell. “Yeah I'm right, I do need to chat before bed though,” he said, wiping the counter off with a damp rag. The way his muscles flexed with each swipe caught your attention and soon you looked like a deer in the headlights. All his words drowned out, passing through your ears but your brain couldn't register them. All you could feel was your toes against the cold floor as the rest of you went numb.
The way his plush lips squished together when he talked, how his fingers looked wet from being in the water too long, and even his cute curls dangling just over his hooded eyes. The chemicals in your body were mixing in all the right ways causing the embarrassingly easy pool between your legs to form, staining your shorts. With how often this happened, Chan must really be oblivious to your feelings for him.
“Just wait for me on the couch, yeah?” When you zoned back in from drooling, you caught Chan’s final words and moved before he noticed your eyes or awkwardly crossed legs.
From your spot on the couch, you could see some of the harsh weather outside which made you glad in your partly forced decision to stay. Getting to hang out with Chan longer and by yourself made it even better. When the other members were around, being fully yourself was difficult especially when it came to Minho who always acted slightly suspicious.
Who wouldn't have a crush on Chan when he looked like he was sculpted by gods and was the sweetest to those he cared about? You never thought you truly had a chance with him, after all he was an idol and you were a nobody but you can't help what you can't control.
~
As Chan hung the rag over the side of the sink and made his way to you, he looked red in the face. His normal bright smile was replaced with a flat line and a furrow to his brow. “I've been trying the whole night to tell you this but it only seemed right if we were alone,” Chan said plopping down on the couch beside you.
Dread swelled up inside your chest as the uncertainty hit you but that all went away when he grabbed your hands. They were so big in comparison to yours and the cliché really made your heart flutter.
“I'm not really good with this stuff,” he said with a sigh. His eyes locked in with yours as he delicately brushed a piece of hair behind your ear and continued his sheepish words. “I think you are the most amazing and attractive person I've ever met. Spending any part of my life without you is out of the question.”
Judging by your expression and shaky hands in his, you had to feel the same. Even if it was only a little, it gave Chan the confidence he needed to finish. “If you'd let me, I'd love to start my new year with you as my girlfriend.”
Out of all the things that ran through your mind the most prominent, was why? He's an idol and insanely handsome so why would he want you? “Chan if you're trying to be funny just stop, ok I'm sorry,” you said retracting your hands from his despite how badly you wanted to hold them for a second more.
Perhaps Minho had said something to Chan and given away your lingering crush. As if Minho would need to spell out why your eyes often locked with his and you'd look away shyly. The longing glances and touch comfortable relationship you had with him was more to you than just friends. Chan making fun of you at this moment quickly started to burn.
“I'm being serious especially with how hot you are.” His narrow eyes flicked up from your thighs to your face as he pried his hand between. Chan had never been this bold or blunt and it was making you flustered even if it wasn't real. You could feel the blush creeping up on your cheeks, giving away that your blank expression was fake.
“Can't I show you how beautiful you are? Please?” he asked, gently pushing his fingers up your clamped thighs. You had been sitting in the same spot too long so they stuck together from the sweat that collected. When he tried to go up to your core, he became trapped. Moving your knees open to give Chan a little more room, his smirk and widened eyes were as if to say how relieved he was.
With his wandering hand finding its way to slip inside your shorts he leaned into you, huffing a breath in your face. “Say yes,” he said shakily with his lips brushing on your neck. The soft kisses he planted and eager fingers tracing your clit through the thin fabric of your sopping wet underwear were fogging your mind. You flopped forward into him, unable to control your tingling body, and forced a kiss.
Plump and soft with a subtle cherry flavor, you kissed one of your bestest friends and it was everything you thought plus more. His kiss was full of tongue and quickly became suffocating from how hungry he was for you. “Fuck you're so wet,” he moaned against your lips as he dipped a finger in the clear pool.
Your breath visibly hitched in your throat as Chan pushed the crotch of your underwear aside to stick two fingers in and abuse that spongy spot inside you. The palm of his hand rubbed your clit with each swipe from his middle and ring fingers, coating him in essence. Chan alone turned you on so with him touching all the right spots, arousal covered everything between your legs including the couch below you.
“Captain, fuck me plea- before I cum,” you cried curling your toes into the shaggy rug that sat under the coffee table. The use of the nickname you grew so used to calling him during a time such as this, sent shivers down Chan’s spine right to the tip of his cock. He wasted not a second more taking his hand out from your thighs to undo his belt with his eyes glued on you.
You laid back on one of the small pillows at the corner of the couch to make slipping your soaked garments off easy. When reality hit you with what was happening you became shy again, closing your knees so Chan couldn't see the mess he created.
With a scoff, Chan licked the palm of his slick-covered hand and used his other to force you to spread. In a slap, he wiped his hand up your already wet folds and his need to touch you slowly grew. When his palm reached your clit, you jolted from sensitivity as your orgasm hung in your face. Chan fingered you for only a few minutes but all your feelings had been bottled up and this was the release you needed. “Don't be scared, you're beautiful.”

Reaching a hand out, Chan helped you stand up from the couch. “I need this to last as long as it can,” he said in a whine while leaning his forehead against yours. His hands slipped up his shirt that hung over you, feeling all your hidden curves. Goosebumps soon covered your skin as he gripped your waist to switch spots. The soft kisses he gave would soon seem distant when lust took place.
Spreading his legs out, Chan removed his penis from his underwear and grabbed your hand like a princess to guide you back to him. The trance his body often put you in was no exception here as your eyes traced each vein along the sides of his shaft. “Fuck you’re big,” was all you could mutter as you stood in awe in front of him.
The sound of crinkling filled the quiet room making your eyes return to Chan’s face. His hand was up to his lip as he hooked his teeth on a small bag and tore it open. “No!” you shouted without thinking. Your sudden yell startled the confident Aussie making him drop the condom to the floor.
“What do you mean no? I'm clean but there's always the other risk.” With a cute tilt to his head, Chan stared at you with his throbbing penis fully out like everything was normal. Like it didn't affect him to have your slick on his hand and that this happening at all wouldn't just change everything after.
“I don't care, I want you bare,” you said taking his hand to sink down on him without another word. Maintaining eye contact the whole time, Chan groaned deeply with his bottom lip turning white from how hard he was biting it.
All the slick that gathered on your cunt slid along Chan’s cock from tip to base, fully covering him with you. Once the initial shock had gone away, Chan placed his hands on your hips and encouraged you to swivel instead of fully bouncing. The slight churning inside you was perfect especially when his cock was bigger than your hole ever could be.
Neither of you was moving but beads of sweat dripped down Chan’s nose onto your shirt as his cock twitched inside you. Placing your hand on his dewy cheek for a short kiss, you were hit with the flavor of salt. Whether it was yourself you were tasting or his sweat, you didn't know but you licked your lips in chase of it.
Whine-filled moans and desperate groans contradicted the harsh grip Chan had on you. Every move of your pelvis and motion of your legs was controlled by him much to your pleasure. Not needing to think about how to move to make it feel good was so satisfying and sexy that Chan knew where to move you to make your clit rub against him.
Once he got into a rhythm, pleasure and tingles replaced the aching feel of not moving. With a mix of him forcing you down in a scooping motion and pushing his groin up so pressure would build, you could tell Chan was feeling good too.
All the small touches started to add up for both of you. In fear he would burst too soon, Chan pushed down hard on your hips, halting your movements. With both of you sitting still the friction slowly started to build. Every twitch and pulse could be felt from how sensitive the pair of you were.
“Are you sure this is ok?” Chan asked with a falter in his breath. The innocence he was able to hold onto even when having sex made you fall for him even more. There was no one on earth you'd feel more comfortable with in a vulnerable and delicate situation like this other than Chan. “I want you. Captain please,” you said lazily as you needed all your focus on holding your orgasm back and not cumming undone all over Chan’s cock.
Sweet eyes you often saw with a smile stared at you like he had seen a fallen star. “You're so pretty,” he said with a pained tone that sounded like he was holding his breath. His hand ran up your side to your lips, where his thumb perched on the bottom. The side of your face was hot to the touch as Chan wrapped his fingers round to your ear and used his thumb to pry your mouth open.
Delicately, Chan toyed and traced each small divot with his nail, trying everything to ignore how close his orgasm was. When all he could think about was how perfect you'd feel full of his cum, the sudden suck of his finger in your mouth pushed him over. The salty flavor you discovered to be you, which lingered on his hand, made the sloshy mess below you seem so delicious.
You felt every drop of Chan’s semen empty out into you as his sweaty chest heaved up and down from how good his release was. “It’s so good, your pussy taking all of it,” he said with a smirk.
When the flow of Chan’s cock finally stopped your orgasm started. Noticing the silent twitches and soft whimpers by his ear, Chan gave a few rigid thrusts to try and help. All the cum began to run back out around Chan’s cock and down to his groin.
You clung to his shoulders as he let go of your bruised hips with that same smirk. He thought you were so cute clinging to him for help as your body spasmed all over. It displeased you how short your orgasm was so you found yourself grinding into him for more.
One kiss was all it took to change that despite how sensitive and full you felt. Tenderly Chan devoured your lips again making you instantly addicted. You wanted the pleasure of seeing him like this all the time, out of breath and full of lust.
~
“Does that mean I get to do this often?” Chan asked poking your nose. All you could do was laugh, shaking your head in agreement. The smell of worn-out designer cologne clung to Chan’s neck for dear life as his sweat made his deodorant stand out. “You're hot and always have been Captain,” you said still in shock that you could admit that.
The soft giggles in your neck tickled you as he nuzzled in closer with his eyes shut. “I get to date the prettiest girl ever and she thinks I'm hot, great year to be me.” His corny words made himself laugh alongside you as time seemed to mean nothing. The bright light of dawn peeked through the crack of Chan’s blackout curtains as the two of you laughed away in his bed cuddled together. Not how you thought your year would start but you couldn't imagine a better way.

This New Year's Eve was going to be very different indeed. Because your friend Chan had invited you to his house. He politely invited you to his house, and you couldn't refuse, so you accepted. When you said you wanted to invite the other members over too, Chan couldn't refuse even if he wanted the night to be just the two of you. You could guess exactly what kind of night it would be. It wasn't your first time going to his house. You'd been friends with them for a long time. They were all good people, just as they appeared on screen.
You knocked on the door a few times. Hyunjin opened the door. He greeted you with a big smile and let you in. "Welcome!" After a brief greeting, you went into the living room. Han and Jeongin were trying to choose a film everyone could watch. Felix had made brownies, knowing you were coming. You could smell them from here. Minho and Changbin were nowhere to be seen. Chan was right behind you.
"Ah, welcome. Don't just stand there, come and sit down."
"Thank you again for inviting me. I thought New Year's Eve was going to be really boring." You thanked Chan sweetly. Chan had always loved your sweet disposition. When you acted like this, he always responded with a broad smile.
Felix answered before Chan had a chance to speak. "With fun friends like us around, don't even think about getting bored!"
"Stupid boy, he didn't give me a chance to answer," Chan whispered to himself with a slight grumble.
Felix pulled you into the middle of the living room. He tapped lightly to get the attention of the pair, who were focused on the tapes on the floor. "Look who's here! Still can't decide what to watch?"
Han sighed and said, "We're stuck between the two, we can't choose."
"No problem kids, we'll decide together. Where are Minho and Changbin?" you asked. They weren't usually late when you arrived.
"They went to get snacks. There was a little misunderstanding. We ran out of snacks at home." Jeongin answered the question, and immediately afterwards, the doorbell rang. Hyunjin ran to open the door. Judging by the voices, Minho and Changbin had arrived.
You only heard Hyunjin say, "Yes, she's here, no problem." Minho probably asked if you had come.
"Right, shall we watch the film first or start the game?" You turned to Chan when he asked the question. He had asked everyone, but they would go along with whatever you said. It was always like that. Even if the others said something else, Chan would do what you wanted.
"The film first!! Come on, someone come with me to get some snacks."
Chan stood up and came into the kitchen with you. He took out a few empty plates and placed them on the table. You opened the packages and filled the plates. Chan hummed the new song and looked at you. You smiled at him and said in a sweet voice, "What's up, why are you looking at me like that?"
His cheeks flushed slightly. "Nothing, I guess I was just lost in thought. Let's go inside. You know they'll get upset if we keep them waiting too long."
By the time you two entered the living room, the film had already started. You and Chan sat down on the sofa together. He draped his arm around your shoulder and pulled you close to his chest. You settled comfortably, using his chest as a pillow. The others were so used to it that they didn't react as much as they used to. Except for Minho, of course. He always gave you both suggestive looks.
The movie was really short. Even though it was short, it was fun. You kept pausing the movie to imitate the actors or argue about the parts that didn’t make sense. When Jeongin showed up with the microphone, you rolled your eyes. "No, Jeongin, don’t even think about it."
He clasped your hands together and begged you. "But please. We promise we won't make fun of you." They were singers, so naturally their voices were flawless, but yours wasn't quite like that. That's why you hated singing alongside them. "No more insisting, kids," Chan warned everyone authoritatively. For him, no meant no. "It's game night, so let's get the game started."
"Right then, what shall we play?" you asked, sitting down on the floor right next to Chan. You all sat down on the floor facing each other. "We'll play 'I did, I didn't'. You know the game, don't you?" Minho asked. You nodded in agreement.
Chan turned to you and said, "If you get bored or uncomfortable with the questions, just say so. All right?"
"All right, Captain." He smiled at you. He really loved that nickname. With Changbin bringing the glasses, your eyes turned back to the game.
"You know the rules, everyone must be honest," said Changbin, and you began the game. Jisung asked first. "I've never opened the door all the way while someone was in the toilet." Jisung's question made you laugh at first, then a few people took a sip from their glasses.
"I've farted in public many times." This time Changbin asked the question. Everyone in the room took a sip from their glasses. "Right, it's my turn," you said eagerly. "I spoke behind JY Park's back and swore."
Is this supposed to be whined?
"That doesn't count, you're exposing us," Hyunjin whined. But it was a game, and the rules applied to everyone. Everyone in the room took a sip except you.
"Let's have some fun. I confessed my love to someone before and got rejected." This time Felix asked the question. At first, everyone looked at each other. You made the first move and took a sip. "What!? That idiot made a huge mistake," Chan said in astonishment. Then Hyunjin and Jeongin took a sip.
"Tell me everything, everyone!" Han shouted. "Never!" Jeongin said this time. "Right, now it's my turn, everyone be quiet!"
As you continued playing, you were so engrossed in the game that you forgot which round it was. Everyone was starting to get a little drunk. Under the influence of alcohol, the game began to take on a slightly different character.
"I caught them having sex!" Hyunjin shouted. Then the glasses clinked. "You're disgusting!" a voice suddenly rose.
"My turn," Minho said suddenly. "I've never been in love with any of you." Minho grinned at Chan. Your eyes darted between the two of them. No one raised their glass. "Someone's breaking the rules," Minho said again, his smile widening.
"Right, that's enough for today. You're all too drunk," Chan concluded. "But Chan, today—" Just as Felix was about to protest, Chan suddenly became serious. If you had to admit it, his tone of voice startled you, and you stood up along with the others. "No objections, otherwise I'll give everyone extra training."
"Thank you all, children. It was a really fun night," you said trying to lighten the mood.
"It's too late and snowing badly out there, stay here tonight if you like." Chan was right, it was very dark and cold. "I don't want to impose," you protested, but the others insisted you stay.
"If you like, come to our flat. We have an extra room," said Felix.
Just as you were about to accept, Minho intervened. "Sorry, but I'm going upstairs. Would it be a problem if she stayed here? Come on kids, let's go."
Minho was really strange today. As everyone slowly left the house, you and Chan were the only ones left.

Jisung had thought that everything would return to normal when he woke up early in the morning and went back to his routine, but he was wrong.
On his way to school, he noticed a black car parked on the corner of the street. The windows were tinted, so he couldn't see inside. For a moment, it seemed paranoid, but then Dark Dawn's words came to mind.
"You're being watched right now."
When he entered the school gates, he sensed that something was different. Had people's gazes changed, or was he overreacting? When he entered the classroom, his best friend Yuta sat down next to him. "Where were you yesterday? I texted you all day, and you didn't even reply!"
"My phone died, then I fell asleep."
"That doesn't sound very convincing. Anyway, shall we do something after school today?"
Just as Jisung was about to reply, the door opened and a new student entered.
Chan.
Jisung's eyes widened. What was he doing here? The teacher turned to the class and introduced him. "This is your new student, Bang Chan. I hope you'll help him."
Chan glanced at Jisung but said nothing. It was as if they had never met before. Jisung cursed inwardly. Why were they acting like this?
As the lessons continued, Jisung realised that Chan was actually paying attention to the lessons. He was behaving like a real student, but he was occasionally looking at Jisung.
"Did you really have to follow me all the way to school?"
"I needed to get an education too. What a coincidence, isn't it?"
Jisung shook his head from side to side. This business was becoming more complicated than he had thought.
Jisung knew he had to go home after school, but then a message arrived.
Runaway Chicken: "There's training today. I'll send you the address."
Jisung sighed and turned off his phone. Without realising it, he was stepping into a world he was no longer a part of.

In the large, dark room, only the screen in the middle of the table emitted light. An area marked with red dots on the map had been identified. This was where O.C. would soon carry out an operation.
Minho sat at the head of the table, arms folded, looking at his team. The other team members, Hyunjin and Jeongin, were also seated at the table.
Hyunjin looked at the screen and frowned. "Are we sure? Is this information accurate?"
Jeongin nodded. "The source is reliable. O.C. is planning a major attack here. We don't know their targets, but the risk of civilian casualties is high."
Minho tapped the table lightly with his hand. "How much time do we have?"
Hyunjin glanced at the documents in front of him. "They'll be moving within a few hours. If we don't get there before them, we won't be able to stop anything."
Minho looked at the map thoughtfully. They had to stop this operation. If they succeeded, O.C. would deal a major blow, but if they failed, things would get even worse.
After a brief silence, Minho spoke. "Then let's get moving right away. Let's review the plan, prepare the equipment, and get going."
Minho and his team were to be sent on a mission targeting an important member of O.C. However, there was something they didn't know: on the same day, a school trip was scheduled to take place at the same location. One of the team members came in and handed Minho a file.
"There will be a group of students in today's operation area. How are we going to handle this?"
Minho glanced at the file and froze. One name on the list caught his attention.
Han Jisung.

We were going on a trip to a museum with a rich history for our history class. We toured the museum with a guide and examined many artefacts. At that moment, several men wearing infinity symbols entered. They were neither Dark Dawn nor Night Spear soldiers.
The museum's high ceilings and stone walls amplified the sounds of chaos outside, making the atmosphere even more frightening. While the students screamed and the teachers shouted in panic, we took refuge behind the large wooden doors.
I paused for a moment and looked around. The museum's display cases were filled with ancient artefacts, centuries of history behind fragile glass panels. But now it had become a battlefield.
At that moment, the sound of heavy boots echoed on the stone floor of the corridor. Dark Dawn's men had entered the museum.
Just then, I saw Minho shout, "Watch out!" He turned the corner and quickly hid behind a column. The two Night Spear agents beside him immediately took up their positions. When I heard the first gunshot, I reflexively ducked to the ground. The bullets ricocheted off the marble walls, scattering pieces of stone around us.
"Get the students out of here!" Minho shouted into his radio, but we were caught in crossfire. At that moment, Chan came up beside me with a soldier, put on his mask, drew his gun from his waist and shot the men in front of us.
The O.C. men who had entered the museum were holding the doors. Within seconds, a battle erupted inside the museum. Gunshots echoed, glass display cases shattered. A bullet hit the display case where an old sword was exhibited, and the sword fell to the floor with a loud clang.
My breath caught in my throat, my heart pounding wildly. My eyes searched for Minho. He cursed heavily and removed his mask. Yes, it was him. He was changing his camouflage, drawing enemy fire, coordinating with the Night Spear agents, but there were too many enemies.
I had to pull myself together. Chan and I were moving in coordination. I didn't leave his side. Eventually, most of the O.C. men fell to the ground. They took everyone left in that space out. Chan was leading the way.
Meanwhile, Minho had hidden behind a column, alone. An O.C. man with heavy weapons stood opposite him.
A fierce fight broke out with Minho. He didn't stand a chance against him. It took only a few seconds to grab the dagger from the man lying on the ground and stab him. The man collapsed immediately.
The man fell on top of Minho. Taking a deep breath, Minho threw the man off him. Minho focused on me and the dagger in my hand.
"What do you think you're doing? Do you realise what you've done? You're a civilian and you just committed murder. This is beyond my authority, beyond anyone's authority!"
"In case you hadn't noticed, he was going to kill you!"
"That's not how things work, and don't raise your voice at me! You could be arrested!"
He took the dagger from my hand and put it back in its sheath. Then he put on his mask, and we left. Our exit coincided with the sound of police sirens.

When the team returned to headquarters, the atmosphere was tense. Minho was going to interrogate Jisung harshly. One wrong word and the police would get involved, and Jisung would be put on trial. He could even face life imprisonment. Just then, the door opened. It must have been the assistant.
"Minho, you need to see this."
A screen opened. The headline was written in capital letters: "Night Spear Member's Mask Falls! Identity Revealed!"
The screen showed a photo of Minho without his mask. The room fell silent. At that moment, Felix entered the room. "Are you stupid, Minho? What are you doing? Your identity should remain secret. You're already enough of a target. What are you doing now?"
"Nothing. I'll just carry on like this."
"You're so irresponsible. I hope no one from Night Spear gets hurt because of your irresponsibility."
Minho was well-trained. He had been doing this job for years. He was no novice. None of them were novices. He was just acting impulsively because he was fed up. He wanted to be a normal high school or university student. His greatest wish was to be happy with the person he loved, to live a happy and peaceful life with his family.
He was very curious about what would happen when this job was over. Perhaps he would settle in a small town. He would live a quiet, peaceful life. Perhaps O.C. would catch him. Who knows, maybe he would win. He had even thought about shooting himself. After the job was over, of course.
Jisung had disrupted his thoughts. He couldn't even look at him. Years ago, when everything was perfect, things had suddenly become difficult and he had been forced to leave. What he didn't know was that he had left to protect him. Now he was standing right in the middle.
He had always wondered whether leaving or staying was harder. Minho was neither. He was the one who had been forced to leave.
"Sit down, they'll ask you some questions in a moment. If you do as I say, nothing will happen, you'll get out easily."
At the slightest suspicion or mistake, the police team would take him away. They could even be behind the glass. No one could know. They had no right, but he was a civilian in the interrogation, so they had to be very careful.

It was pitch black everywhere; it must have been two or three in the morning, but we were still running. The ground was wet; the rain had just stopped. The operation had failed. Survival was now the priority. As I directed the group forward, I turned around to check on my team.
One was injured.
Bullet or knife? It wasn't clear, but blood was flowing, and it was obvious he was slowing down with every step. "Hang in there, if we go a little further we'll find somewhere to hide."
Hyunjin was injured. Hyunjin was cool-headed and strategic. He was good with a gun, but he stood out more for his intelligence than his combat skills, yet this time he had been wounded like a novice.
We were cornered in a dark alley. Most of the buildings were either closed or too conspicuous. Except for one. A window was open, inviting us inside. I carefully opened the door and let the team in.
Silence.
The house was completely dark. At that moment, footsteps came from outside. The enemy was very close. The sounds outside stopped for a moment, then ceased entirely. We were safe for now, but then someone appeared in the corridor. He had a stick in his hand.
In the darkness, my eyes met his. For a moment, the man with the stick froze. This was not a stranger, and now I had my gun pointed at him.
I had raised my gun, but I wasn't going to pull the trigger. Jisung gripped the stick in his hand more tightly. I was the first to break the silence. "You,"
Jisung frowned and looked at us. Frankly, he hadn't even imagined this. Who knows how many times we had chatted, but one day the messages suddenly stopped. I had vanished into thin air. Now I was standing in the middle of his house with my men covered in blood.
"You? What's going on here? Are you the one who snuck into my house?"
At that moment, my tongue was tied. I couldn't say anything. When the wounded Hyunjin behind me staggered slightly, Jisung's attention shifted to his bloody shoulder.
"Someone's injured, I should call the police..."
Jeongin put on that sarcastic expression I knew so well. "The police? Good joke. The police can't get involved in this. Don't you watch the news?"
Jeongin was a sharp marksman and good in close combat. He was smart, but he took too many risks because he was a little too brave.
I took a deep breath. There wasn't much time to explain the situation. Meanwhile, Chan called for backup.
"Listen, we've put you in danger by being here right now. If you go out that door and report this, no one can protect you."
Jisung hesitated for a moment. He realised this was a bigger deal than he thought, but could he trust us?
Just then, a vehicle sounded outside. The backup team had arrived. I looked at Jisung one last time. I gathered my team and we quickly left the house.
Jisung remained where he was. His heart was racing. Reflecting on what had just happened, he was aware of one thing: this wasn't over.
•
After the chaos of the night, everyone had gathered at headquarters in the morning. A large meeting room. A long table, surrounded by the important figures of Night Spear. Everyone was very serious.
Felix placed his hands on the table and began to speak. "Yesterday's operation was a complete disaster."
No one objected because everyone knew it was an embarrassment. Minho cleared his throat and began to speak. "We have very important information, but now the enemy is tracking us. We also had to take refuge in a civilian's home. That means we put them in danger."
Chan chimed in, supporting his friend. "We had no other choice. If we had gone somewhere else, we would have been dead or captured by now."
Felix said, "That's no excuse. Now we've dragged that kid into this too. What do you think will happen when the enemy finds out who he is?"
Minho had thought about this but hadn't said anything. Jisung was now involved in this matter. Just then, Chan spoke up. "We have to take him."
Felix said, "Take him? He's a civilian, after all. How much can we trust him?"
Chan said, "We have two options. Either we take him under our protection, or our enemies find him before we do. Which do you prefer?"
That was a fair point. Finally, Felix took a deep breath. "Alright, but we'll do this carefully. At least for now, we'll take him under our protection without involving him too much."
•
When we arrived home, we realised Jisung wasn't there. The door was locked, but remembering the window we'd entered through the night before, we went in that way.
The house was empty.
While Chan stayed a little behind, I stood in the middle of the living room and examined the house. "What if he decides to forget what happened here and move on with his life?"
"I don't think he'll do that."
"How do you know?"
I didn't answer. The truth was, I didn't know, but my instincts told me Jisung wouldn't forget. Just then, the door opened.
Jisung walked in with a bag in his hand. He had obviously come from outside, but when he saw us inside, he froze where he stood.
Jisung said, "What? What are you doing here?"
Minho said, "After what happened yesterday, you need to be taken into protective custody as a precaution."
"What do you mean? What does yesterday have to do with this?"
"Listen to us. The answers to the questions you're asking right now are very complicated, and I can't give you too many details, but there's one thing you need to know: you're in danger."
"How do you know that?"
Chan sighed softly. "Because after yesterday's incident, it won't take them long to find out who lives in that house. Whether you like it or not, you're part of this now."
Jisung leaned back and took a deep breath. He remembered what had happened two years ago. He and Minho had been talking for years, but suddenly all communication had ceased, and now, two years later, he had appeared at his doorstep. "So, what happens now?"
"We'll take you into protective custody."
"But I,"
Chan, "You'll be able to continue your normal life. You'll go to school, everything will seem normal, but we'll always be watching you."
"You'll also receive basic training."
"What?"
"We don't want you involved in this business, but if you become a target, at least you should be able to defend yourself."
Jisung took a deep breath. He had no other choice. So he would come with us.
Jisung was quiet in the car. We didn't talk much either. As we approached the centre, Jisung began to look around carefully. It looked like an ordinary building, but it was clear that inside was a completely different world.
When the large doors opened, Jisung realised this was a serious place. As we entered, there was a cold and disciplined atmosphere. Training areas, people working, armed guards...
"Where exactly is this?"
Chan said, "This is Dark Dawn's main headquarters. There are many different units here. Some are in training, others are conducting field operations."
Jisung turned to me. "Have you been here for two years?" I hesitated for a moment but then nodded.
"Then why did you disappear?"
I sighed wearily, hoping he wouldn't pursue the matter further. Chan got the message and changed the subject. "Right, now we'll tell you what you're going to do."
"You won't be staying here for now. You'll continue your normal life, but you'll come here for training on certain days of the week. You won't join the team, but you must learn to defend yourself."
Jisung thought for a moment. "What if everything goes back to normal? What then?"
"Once this life touches you, nothing will ever be the same again."

A month had passed since that dreadful day. A full month had passed since I lost my father. A full month had passed since all my life energy had been drained. I woke up drenched in sweat, as usual. My dreams had become more complex. Every night I saw the same thing. Every night I relived that event over and over.
I was running. As if my whole life depended on it. When I stopped to catch my breath, I saw him again. That thing. He was looking at me with a broad smile. There were dried bloodstains around his mouth. I shook my head and ran away. I knew running was pointless. No matter how far I ran, he was following me. I woke up when my foot caught on something and I fell to the ground.
I got up as usual and washed my face. I turned off the light that had been on all night and went out to the living room. My mother was already up. "Good morning, my queen."
We sat down at the table together and had breakfast. My mother was as affected by what had happened as I was. No, we still lived in this town. I especially didn't want to leave. If it were up to my mother, we would have left immediately. After we finished our meal, I helped her clear the table. "I'm going to teach Kai today. I told you, but I wanted to remind you."
"Okay, but don't be too late, okay? I have a lot to do today."
"I can postpone it if you want." My mother shook her head and declined my offer. "No, no, work can wait. Go help your friend." I kissed her and left the house. Kai lived a few houses down. He was only a year or two younger than me. He was also preparing for exams, like me. I knocked on the door and waited for it to open. His mother opened the door.
"Welcome, Beomgyu. Kai was waiting for you inside." I greeted his mother and went inside. I had been here many times before. I went straight to his room. "What's up, Kai? How are you?"
"I'm fine, Gyu hyung, how are you?"
"I'm fine too. Sit down, let's get started." He was smart despite being small. His only bad trait was that he couldn't stay serious. He was a complete child, but I liked that trait. He was one of my few friends and one of the people who stood by me during these difficult times.
After working for a few hours, I left. Half the village was almost empty. Harvest time was approaching, so everyone had gone to the fields. There was no one around except for the little children playing outside. I did the housework my mother had put off and waited for time to pass. Village life wasn't for me, but I had important work to do here.
When the doorbell rang, I got up and opened the door. Taehyun was standing at the door, grinning at me with all 32 teeth. "Your favourite person is here!"
"Really? Did something happen?"
"No, what could happen? I'm just here," he said, pushing me gently inside. "By the way, can I come in? Where should I sit?"
"I think it's too late to ask that. Go sit in the living room." We went to the living room and sat down together. Taehyun came here often. So we were both used to this situation. "How are you? I forgot to ask."
"I'm fine, Taehyun, I'm fine. Didn't you go with the others?"
"I went and came back. Look what I brought you," he said, taking three mandarins out of his pocket and handing them to me. "You like these. Here, eat, I brought them for you."
"No way, where did you find these? Thank you."
"I find them, I find them. Enjoy. Are you coming tonight?"
"Tonight? Where?"
"How could you forget? We're meeting at Soobin's house today. You're coming, aren't you?" I had completely forgotten. We had planned this day a few days ago. Actually, they had planned it, and Taehyun had told me to come. "I don't know, maybe I'll come."
"Come on, come. I'll be waiting. If you don't come, I'll come to your bed."
"Get lost! Okay, you said what you wanted to say, now get out."
"That's very rude, Beomgyu, I'm your guest," he scolded me and got up. I got up with him and walked him to the door. Just then, my mother was standing at the door. "Hello, Taehyun, how are you?"
"I'm fine, thank you. I wanted to say hello, then she invited me in."
"Of course I know. Well done. Say hello to your mother."
•
That evening, we all gathered at Soobin's house. Actually, I wasn't going to come, but Taehyun had begged my mum to send me. Soobin's family often went to the city and stayed there. And Soobin would be left alone at home. It happened so often that everyone was used to it.
Yeonjun said, "Right, what shall we do?"
Kai said, "If you like, we can play Tuho, but let's change it a bit. If someone throws the stick into the jar, they get to ask a question." I liked this idea, and so did the others. Soobin immediately brought a jar and a stick.
Kai tried first but failed. Then Soobin tried but failed too. Finally, Yeonjun managed to throw the stick into the jar. "I'm going to ask a question, get ready. What was your most embarrassing moment?"
"No! Ask something else!" Taehyun was the first to object. We all laughed at him and waited for his answer. "I asked a girl out in primary school. She slapped me in front of everyone."
Soobin said, "You deserved it, mate. What kid asks a girl out in primary school?"
Taehyun said, "Cut the chit-chat, tell us your most embarrassing moment."
"I'm not an embarrassing person, so I don't have a moment like that. Once when I was little, I mixed up my mum. I called another woman 'mum' at the supermarket. That's all."
"How could you call someone else 'mum'? What was her reaction?"
Soobin said, "I don't know. I don't remember that much. You tell us." I paused for a second or two and thought. There were so many embarrassing moments that I couldn't even bear to think about them.
"Once, thinking I was on the ground floor, I jumped down. I landed in front of a child."
Taehyun said, "No way, Gyu. I don't believe you managed that."
Kai said, "The real question is how you didn't die. The guy literally jumped down." Since I didn't know the answer to that question, I just laughed. The things that happened to me were really ridiculous.
Yeonjun said, "So that's why you're so crazy. Now I understand."
We played a few more rounds and finished the game. We were so clumsy that we could barely get the sticks into the jar. By the time night fell, Kai had already fallen asleep. Yeonjun didn't see a problem with staying here. Soobin also insisted we stay. "I'd like to stay next time, but I have to go now."
Taehyun said, "I'll come with you. See you guys." We said goodbye to the kids and went outside. It was pitch black. Taehyun turned on the torch he had brought and lit our way. We walked and talked until we reached my house. We had both had a wonderful evening.
When the torch flickered a few times, we both stopped. Taehyun tried to fix it by clicking the torch a few times. At least, I hoped that's what he was doing. "Don't worry, don't worry. It's probably just out of battery."
"What's there to worry about? Come on, let's hurry." I turned around and started walking again. When my eye caught something strange, I froze where I stood. The animal was completely motionless. "Hey, what happened? What did you see?"
When Taehyun looked over there, the animal quickly disappeared into the darkness. When he nudged me, I looked at him. "I'm fine, never mind, let's go."
Without insisting too much, we continued walking. Taehyun waited at the door until we went inside. My mother had already gone to bed. I went straight to my room and got into bed without delay. I turned on the light and waited to fall asleep.
It's as if I'm reliving that moment. As if I've gone back to the beginning.

How abnormal can a village be? Or how strange can people be? I couldn't answer that question. Of course, I couldn't have answered it if I hadn't come to this strange village. Andong Folk Village was a quiet village with an ordinary past. However ordinary its past may have been, I couldn't say that now. Countless strange events had occurred over the course of a year. People were disappearing, animals were being torn apart, people were witnessing dozens of incidents.
So what was I doing here? Let me explain briefly. I am Choi Beomgyu. A year ago, my family had grown tired of city life and decided to move to the village. I had been living in this village for a year. The events that had taken place did not deter us from moving. My family was determined to stay here.
"Son, aren't you going to get up yet?" As soon as I heard my mother's voice, I got out of bed and pretended to tidy up. "Look, he's still dawdling. Come on, hurry up, son. Your father is waiting for you."
"Are we going somewhere?"
"You said you finished your books yesterday. Your father is going to town, go with him and get your books." I quickly dropped the blanket in my hand and went into the bathroom. My mother grumbled behind me as usual, but I didn't even hear her. I washed my face and went to my father, who was waiting for me outside. "His Majesty is awake."
"I'm awake, Dad, I'm awake. Why is everyone gathered again?"
"The usual things. Animal remains." We lived in a village. It was normal for there to be many predatory animals in the forest. At least, that's what I thought. A few villagers didn't see this normal situation as normal.
We both got in the car and set off for the city. The city was changing rapidly. There was no trace of the chaos and rebellion I had witnessed in my childhood. Perhaps that was why I was most angry with myself. I had missed out on my childhood. Now I was missing out on my youth. I was stuck in a village at the age of 19. When I was 10, the country was a fireball, and I was stuck at home.
"Do you miss the city?" my father asked.
"Yes. I wish it had been like this when I was a child. Who wouldn't want to spend their youth here?" When we arrived in front of the bookshop, my father stopped the car. "I'll wait for you here. If you find something you like, bring it out."
I went inside and browsed the shelves for a while. I already knew what I wanted to buy, but I looked around anyway. "Hello!"
I looked up from my book and turned towards the voice. Taehyun was standing next to me with two books in his hands. "Hi Gyu, I wanted to say hello when I saw you."
Taehyun and I lived in the same town. He was a sensible guy. He didn't talk nonsense or pick fights for no reason, but he was very sensible. "Good for you. I'm looking for a book on anatomy. Can you help me?"
"You won't find it on this shelf. It's over there." With Taehyun's help, I found the book I was looking for right away. We paid and left together. "Taehyun, would you like to come with us? We'll drop you off." I nodded in agreement to my father's suggestion.
"Thank you very much, Mr Choi, but I have a few places to go." We said goodbye to Taehyun and wandered around the market a little longer. We had quite a few things to buy, so we went from place to place until noon. Finally, my father finished shopping, thinking everything was complete. "I'll ask one last time, is there anything else we need?"
"No, Dad. That's the third time you've asked. Let's go, I'm exhausted."
"Alright then. Let's stop by your grandmother's house, then head home from there."
•
At my father's request, we went to my grandmother's house. While they were talking, I started reading one of the books I had brought with me. As usual, my grandmother was insisting that my father return to the city. News of the events in the village had spread to the city. Naturally, people were afraid.
"Mother, I swear, it's nothing serious. The wild animals are only hunting goats. You know how people like to exaggerate." This was the trait I shared most with my father. Like me, he didn't believe in the extraordinary.
We set off together as it began to get dark. My grandmother had given us snacks for the journey. I continued reading my book while eating them. When we reached the crossroads, my father stopped the car. "Is there a problem?"
"I don't know, it just stopped." My father got out of the car and opened the bonnet. He turned around and looked at the back of the car. When nothing came up, I got out of the car too. "This won't do. Let's walk."
My father took the torch from the car and turned it off. We hadn't gone very far when my father stopped again. "I have a bad feeling about this. Let's go back and find someone to pick us up."
"Come on, we've walked this far."
"No arguing, Beomgyu. If I say we go back, we go back." Grumbling, I agreed to what he said. When I turned around, something flashed quickly before my eyes. I froze where I stood. A shiver ran down my spine. When I turned back, a human-like creature that had torn apart the deer was standing right in front of me. "Dad, Dad, run!"
I forced myself to the car. I was soaked in sweat. My body was pumping adrenaline like crazy. "Dad, are you okay?"
"Yes, yes, I'm fine. Give me the phone right now." I opened the car and grabbed the phone inside. "Damn it. The phone isn't working."
"Dad, Dad, over here." There was a rustling sound coming from the bushes by the side of the road. Normally I would have said it was the wind, but after what I had seen, I couldn't say anything logical. "Run. Beomgyu, run!"
"Dad!" My dad was standing where he was, waiting for me to leave. "Beomgyu, run! I'm right behind you."
I took a deep breath and started running. My father wasn't following me like he said he would. When I turned the corner, everything disappeared from my field of vision. When my father's scream echoed through the forest, I froze where I stood. I wanted to turn back, but I couldn't. I could do nothing but run forward.
I didn't know how far I had run, but I was exhausted from fatigue. I stopped to catch my breath. I could still feel someone following me. Who knows, maybe I would die here. The smell of blood was spreading around. My body couldn't take it anymore, and I vomited everything inside me.
When I lifted my head, that thing was standing right in front of me. It tilted its head to the left and gave me a wide smile. My hands and feet tangled together. I couldn't even move. Yes, my end had come. I was going to be killed here by this thing. When it took a step, I closed my eyes. The rest was a blur. I only heard a gunshot. Either I fainted or I died. If I was still alive, the only thing I knew was that from that moment on, my life would never be the same again.

The team had taken their positions. Everyone in the game had fallen silent. No one was speaking; the silence was so profound that you could hear breathing and even heartbeats. Changbin broke the silence with his usual cheerfulness. "What's with all this gloom? We're going to play a game, after all."
"When we don't even know what kind of game we're playing? I don't understand your enthusiasm, Bin," Minho said to the cheerful man in his most serious tone.
"You can't be so pessimistic. Look, the others are drinking as if nothing happened. Those over there are working instead of crying. The ones over there have even started modifying. There are five of you anyway, you're a team, you're 1-0 up."
Jeongin, "You and Chan?"
"Don't worry about us, we found ourselves a team. We didn't want to split you up. They'll take us wherever we go anyway, don't try to form a team."
"Right then, everyone," Seungmin stood up, but Nouma finished the sentence. "Dinner time!"
All the players gathered around the fire and ate their meals. With the hooting of owls in the background, everyone quietly filled their stomachs. Then, without lingering, everyone returned to their places. Shortly after, all the lights went out and they fell asleep.
Jeongin was extremely stressed about the first match. He was also excited. He found himself beside the dying campfire. He looked up at the same sky. The same boring sky.
•
"Are you alive? Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm alive, I'm sure. Calm down a bit." When Jeongin opened his eyes, he found himself face to face with a face that filled his entire field of vision. Two pairs of eyes stared at him, puffy. "Damn it! He's back, help him."
"I swear, you're an idiot, Vernon. Sorry, mate, we woke you up too."
"It's fine, I'd fallen asleep anyway."
"Let's not say asleep. You passed out, it's morning," said Vernon, leaning over Jeongin.
"He's talking nonsense, ignore him. Come on, mate, we've got work to do." Jeongin got up from where he was sleeping and looked around. No one else was awake yet. He got up and boarded the bus he had taken earlier.
"Hey, wake up, it's morning." The group was snoring as if in hibernation. "Love birds, wake up, wake up. Hello!" Jeongin grabbed his sleeping friends' pillows and pulled them. The pair got up in a hurry and looked at the boy in front of them.
Hyunjin said, "Jeongin, I'm going to kick your arse. Is there a problem, brother?"
Felix said, "I'm not commenting, Jeongin, get out of here." Jeongin grinned wickedly at the pair and went to wake the others. After much effort, he woke the whole team.
"I wish we could just play this match and get it over with," Minho muttered as he got off the bus. Almost everyone was awake now. Slowly, they gathered around the fire and had breakfast.
•
Final strategies for the game were being decided. Seungmin was adding new weapons to his arsenal. Minho and Felix were studying the maps with the other players. Jeongin and Hyunjin were practising their shooting together.
"Notification received!" At the player's call, everyone stopped what they were doing and gathered around the screen. As usual, Chan went to the screen and read the notification. "Attention all players. Your opponents have been determined based on the teams you have formed. The game will start with an announcement sound. We wish everyone success."
Immediately after Chan read the notification, the announcement sound echoed. This meant the game had officially begun. Jeongin's team quickly gathered and carefully studied the game information.
"Hope it's a good game," Jeongin muttered.
"Hope we win," Minho whispered to Jeongin in a stern tone. It might be a game, but it was no laughing matter. "Right, everyone gather round," said Seungmin, gathering the team and beginning to speak. "The team we're facing is quite experienced. We can't afford to make mistakes, so everyone needs to know exactly what they're doing. If we lose, let's lose fairly, alright?"
Felix said, "I love you guys. It doesn't matter if we lose."
"Alright, don't get emotional. I'll show you a few advantageous spots. Especially good spots for snipers." After Seungmin explained all the details to the group, the team entered the area where the match would take place. Everyone would duel on different maps. The first 30 seconds were spent surveying the area. Once the time was up, the match began.
"Bang speaking, taking my position." Felix and Minho would be on the roof to cover the lower areas. The others would clash on the field. The other team wasn't inexperienced. They would most likely employ a different strategy. The team was aware of this, so they were moving between buildings.
And the first gunshot rang out. Within seconds, someone was hit. "Pulse speaking, I hit someone."
"Byte speaking, I'm going onto the field, those on the roof, cover me." Jeongin was right behind his friend who had gone onto the field. Seungmin covered the front while he covered the rear. Those on the roof watched them from both sides. "Seungmin, enter the building."
Seungmin nodded in agreement and changed his target. As soon as he entered, they shot another person. "Byte speaking, we took down another one."
There were three people left on the other team. It was an advantage, but it didn't guarantee victory. Several more gunshots echoed across the field. A battle was raging. Seungmin and Jeongin scanned the field carefully. Hyunjin and another player were literally shooting at each other. "What exactly are the ones on the roof doing?"
"They're out of our line of sight!" shouted Minho. This time, Seungmin and Jeongin stepped in. After a long battle, they took down two more people. "Bang speaking, are you okay?"
Hyunjin, "We're fine, darling."
"Zero speaking, please don't flirt with each other right now."
Felix said, "Don't be jealous, Minho, don't be jealous." While the team was arguing, Jeongin found the last remaining player. "I found the guy! Let's end this game!" Jeongin shot the last remaining player. The team won the match and left the field.
Minho asked, "What do we do now?"
Seungmin said, "Let's go back to the campsite. I wonder about the survivors."
When the team arrived at the campsite, there were very few people there. Jeongin looked around. Very few teams had finished the match quickly. Nouma came over and checked on the team. "Is everyone okay? Chan told me to check on you first if I arrived before him."
This meant that Chan and Changbin still hadn't returned. Jeongin took a deep breath and turned to Nouma. "We're fine. I hope Chan is fine too."
"Don't worry about him. He's very experienced. Nothing will happen to him easily."
"The team we faced was experienced, but soon they'll be up against that wall," said Minho.
"I'm not talking about experience in the game, kids. Chan is an experienced soldier. Believe me, he won't be eliminated easily." Nouma patted Jeongin on the back and walked away. When a few groups entered, Jeongin's gaze turned towards the entrance.
•
After the games ended, everyone gathered around the fire. The number of players had dropped to 35. Most of the inexperienced players had been eliminated. The only question on everyone's mind was whether more players would arrive. Everyone ate their meal in silence. There were no jokes or anything else. Only the sounds of eating could be heard.
When Seungmin finished his meal, he tapped Jeongin on the shoulder and beckoned him over. They walked to the front entrance and stopped there. "There was someone else on the field."
"What?" Jeongin hadn't noticed anyone else. Perhaps he had been too absorbed in the game. Seungmin continued without waiting. "At first I wasn't sure, but it was a real person. I'm certain it was someone I hadn't seen here before."
"Maybe it was an illusion. I mean, I don't know, I didn't notice anything."
"It wasn't an illusion, Jeon. He was just like us." A shiver ran down Jeongin's spine. This was a truly terrifying reality.
"Are you going to tell the others?"
"No. If even you were that scared, there's no need to scare the others." That seemed the most logical thing to Jeongin. Besides, it was doubtful whether he was even a real person. Jeongin got on the bus as if nothing had happened. The team had decided to go to bed early. He went to his place to sleep off the day's fatigue.
