I was doing a speed run through Trespasser to capture some video clips, so keep in mind that I didnât fully explore everything or read all the codex. There may have been things I missed. But this caught my attention.
Looking at this mural again, Iâm still not sure what to make of it. We donât know who those elves are on either end. I think a lot of people like to attribute them to Solas, but not every elf we see in the murals can be Solas. So I reserve judgement.
Framing the center of the mural are these circles going all the way around that kind of remind me of the foci the evanuris used. But the imagery is kind of vague to make any specific conclusions. What really caught my attention however, is the dark circle in the very center with the red eyes⊠which weâve seen depicted on several FenâHarel art.
But, you know⊠vague mural is vague, soâŠ
There are purple flames near this muralâs location, and I just happened to decide to go through them where I found this codex.
The pages of this book warn of a terrible danger, a wolf with slavering black jaws and pits for eyes. The Evanuris - the elven gods - stand in a ring around it, as if preventing it from attacking.
âBeware the forms of FenâHarel! The Dread Wolf comes in humble guises, a wonderer who knows much of The People and their spirits. He will offer advice that seams fair, but turns slowly to poison. Remember the price of treason, and keep in your heart the mercy of your Gods.â
Is that what this mural is depicting?! The evanuris circling FenâHarel to trap him? WHY?! What the hell is going on? Keep in mind this mural is in the Library, not the Dread Wolf Sanctuary. Presumably it would have some historical significance, but how so?
I just happened to pick up this codex in another part of the library:
The pages of this book show the blazing forms of the evanuris banishing a howling spirit from the reaches of the Fade that touch their lands. A voice rings out, stern and imperial:
For abandoning The People in their time of greatest need, for casting aside form to flee to where the earth could not reach, we declare Xebenkeck and others of her ilk exiled from the lands of the evanuris. Beware! Their familiarity with shape allows them to travel paths unaided. They may be bound, but only the protection of your gods will fully shield you from their malice. They are forbidden from the earth that is our right.â
Maybe Iâm crazy for connecting these, but we know FenâHarel was said to walk among both the Evnuris and the Forgotten Ones, that both sides saw him as their own. This is something that has bugged me for a while. We only really know half of Solasâ story. We know he locked away the Evanuris and formed the Veil, but we know nothing about his relationship to the Forgotten Ones.
Did he originally come from the Forgotten Ones? And the Evanuris were going to banish him too, but he somehow convinced them not to? Could it be this is when they officially welcomed him as one of their own and he became part of the pantheon? Maybe Iâve stepped down the wrong path, but that seems significant enough to be put on a wall.
By the way, the circles in the mural framing the red-eyed FenâHarel one? Thereâs eight of them exactly. Thereâs 9 Evanuris, including Solas. So the idea that those are foci seems to be accurate.
Just wanted to mention that I think Xebenkeck is a âforbidden oneâ, a group comprised of four super powerful demons. The forgotten ones refers to the anti-evanuris/old Tevinter gods who once occupied the void and now snooze in the deep roads. I wasn't sure if anyone had mentioned this to you yet but theyâre two different, albeit easy-to-confuse factionsđ€
