you know… with this rise in interest in east asian culture and “aesthetics” over the past couple of years also comes with a rise in asian cultural appropriation… so for every nonasian out there who would consider themselves a fan of cutesy asian things or stuff like kpop or anime, you guys have an obligation to people of the culture you’re enjoying to be informed and educated about their struggles. it’s not right to love and consume cultures that’s not your own while ignoring the people who are part of them. read up on appropriation, the fetishisation and infantilisation of east asian women and desexualisation of asian men, whitewashing in media, xenophobia, the erasure of our achievements and the model minority myth. you owe it to us east asians to be educated on topics that concern us if you’re going to continue to consume media and content we make.

The whole “animals are friends, not food” saying is a really nice sentiment, but it just didn’t ever resonate with me. I know it isn’t meant quite literally, but I just didn’t ever feel that strong of a connection to animals to the point where they were ‘friends’. However, I still view them as living, breathing entities that deserve to exist every bit as much as I do, and deserve a life free from pain, exploitation, torture and slaughter. Just because I didn’t have a strong connection with any one animal or species, doesn’t mean I can’t acknowledge the abuse of power and cruelty inflicted upon them by us humans. You don’t have to be an animal lover to know that harming innocent beings is wrong.

I absolutely love animals but I can respect this view, it’s not that different from how I feel about children. I’m not really into kids, just never been my thing, but I will absolutely defend their right to live in a safe environment free from harm. I think children deserve the best, no matter whether I personally really like them or not, so I can definitely respect this view about animals. You don’t have to love animals to give them respect and protect their rights.

Y'all know what veal is? It’s what happens when you eat dairy. A dairy cow only makes milk when she has a baby, so she’s repeatedly and forcefully impregnated over and over again until her body breaks down, and then she’s sent to slaughter. When she has her baby, it’s immediately taken away so it doesn’t drink the milk. If the calf is female, she replaces her mom, but if the calf is male, he usually ends up as veal.

To make veal, the calf is locked in a teeny tiny crate with no access to normal exercise or socialization from several weeks to a few months before slaughter. He’s not even allowed to move or lay down comfortably, and he never gets to see his mom again. Why do they do this? So the calf doesn’t develop muscle, to keep the flesh pale and tender. So by eating dairy, you’re contributing to the killing of these calves.

No, I don’t care if I’m being the Vegan Killjoy™ and ruining your little “”“milk puppy”“” moment, because it’s the truth that people need to hear. So if you all think these calves are so cute and innocent, maybe you should stop paying for them to be tortured and killed.
