So today is about sharing beautiful black people and stand together .. My daughter ( who for her age is well aware) has been saying some really upsetting things.. I do the best I can to help her embrace who she is, I’m hoping to show her this post later tonight with a bunch of support so she can understand how beautiful it is to be black !! Please share this! This is why days like blackoutday are important. We have a world out here telling baby girls and boys that they aren’t beautiful enough. There aren’t enough magazines, TV shows, A list actors, and advertised influences for little black/brown children to look up to on an everyday basis. They need to know that there is someone out there that looks like them that is accomplished, and loved, and beautiful, and powerful, and everything else. Advertisements are killing self-esteems out here. Stop pretending that it is not a problem.

This child is so beautiful just like all Black children but antiblackness and white supremacy is sooo powerful. We try to teach our younger fam how to decolonize but sometimes its fumbling in the dark because we ourselves are having these problems. This is why media representation and self love is SO VITALLY IMPORTANT. This hurts my heart and I only hope and pray that one day she’ll be able to see how Blackness is not something to entrap her in self hatred but instead something that will help set her free. And how truly wonderful, blessed, and beautiful she really is as a Black girl.

Right. And she’s lucky her mom is doing such a great job. I’m just saying I wish our words/representation was enough because like you said anti-blackness is that powerful. There’s only so much we can believe/know as the world systematically tells us otherwise.
