being  a  healer  is  her  greatest  pride.  she’s  never  thought  of  being  a  mage  as  a  curse  or  as  a  gift.  simply  another  trait  that  she  possesses.  her  parents  never  treated  her  with  fear,  and  so  she  never  saw  much  reason  to  be  afraid  of  her  abilities.  of  course,  she  isn’t  naive,  she’s  been  tempted  by  demons  in  her  dreams,  and  has  seen  the  damage  that  frightened,  angry  rebel  mages  can  do.  being  able  to  fix  someone  broken  using  her  abilities  that  so  many  see  as  frightening  is  a  great  pleasure  to  her.  there  are  things  that  healing  magic  cannot  do,  and  there  are  things  that  healers  cannot  do  without  magic.  sadly,  not  everyone  shares  her  opinions.  some  she  seeks  to  help  refuse  her  aid  because  of  her  methods.  those  she  would  work  with  refuse  to  work  with  her  because  she  is  a  mage.

to  put  it  in  plain  terms,  hawke  is  a  bit  of  a  peacock.  as  humble  as  he  seems  in  private,  especially  after  the  events  of  kirkwall,  he  takes  pride  in  his  abilities.  if  he  is  skilled  in  little  else,  he’s  a  master  with  blades  &  a  bow.  he  learned  from  isabela,  little  lessons  he  took  with  her  whenever  they  were  both  free.  those  lessons  are  one  of  his  fonder  memories  of  kirkwall.
