Have you guys noticed how much the internet/technology just does not listen to you anymore? I click “don’t show this artist” on Spotify and I get recommended a music video by them on the front page. I click “skip this update” on a pop up every time I open a file organization app and it’s right back there every time. I click unsubscribe on a newsletter and it keeps showing up in my inbox!! I click “delete my account” and the next time I open the website they suggest I “reactivate”.

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything

ai is ruining the minds of people in school and i mean this

i remember making some of the most ludicrous arguments in history and english written exams akin to "the french revolution was a bad move for society" and "the narrator is lying about the events of the odyssey" and got nineties because i was just.. really good at supporting my (sometimes blatantly contentious) arguments with actual evidence

with ai, you've got none of that. ai is the race to the average— it will literally never make an original argument, because it's designed to pick the stance that is most likely to appeal to the consumer. not just that, but ai will straight-up fabricate evidence to support its claim— like cmon, it takes a certain amount of skill to logically argue for some ridiculous standpoint by supporting it with true facts— a skill that ai does not have, because ai is not actual intelligence

to narrow the range of thought, all you have to do is keep people from thinking for themselves— ai does just that
