This one was is easy to conclude, I’ve seen you around, I know this one. A gimmick is a gimmick, also missing the key official.

What's the difference between an official and a gimmick?

A gimmick is a blog that follows its bit! Like a blog about identifying cats, and it identifies cats, that’s a gimmick blog. Gimmick blogs have been around way longer than official’s and are generally more accepting.

Officials are more weird as there’s no true way to identify them. More or less they have to have ‘official’ (spelled correct or not) in their name, and just have fun and be big. Also most of them hate being called gimmicks for some reason unknown to me.

many gimmicks have deactivated, or changed to become officalverse blogs, or both. (because the gimmickverse has become much less active. I've thought about making my own official blog tbh, but changing Maryland into one would be a betrayal (to myself))

(i should specify, I am more of a modern gimmick blog, and there have been gimmickverses that have "died" before me)

As someone who has both the classic definition of gimmickblogs and the officials

Gimmickblog is a blog with a gimmick, this ranged from pretending to be something/someone to blackout egg poetry. This is the gimmickverse.

Within the gimmickverse you got the officialverse, a specific type of gimmick nowadays where you pretend to be a "real" someone/something. This does not actually require the word official.

Within the officialverse you also got some more options, often times they don't use the word official and so gave a secondary distinction (the hajverse is an example, several of the hajs do not use official in their name but they are considered officials due to their type of gimmick)

Then also within the gimmickverse but outside the officialverse is the RPverse, this is OC specific roleplay blogs, they're similar to the officialverse but official is used as a joke that you are not truly who you say, whereas OCs don't need this.

RPverse and Officialverse have some overlap. They're both withing the gimmickverse.

There are more subgenres to the gimmickverse, but these are the ones important to this post.

(stuff like, "your fave in" and "your fave as", "out of context", "counting in posts", the detector verse (and the rat detectors are a subgenre of its own in there) the spaceverse, the countryverse, last two both subgenres of the officialverse, there's a lot....)
