Run by your average dutch girlie, I love cheese, am 5"9 or 5'9? 176cm atleast, lovely little metric system <3
Please don't break my "dykes", they are fragile and I am not good at swimming in basically the ocean ^^
My pfp is the royal standard and the background is all the countries belonging to the Kingdom of The Netherlands. Tho this blog will probably mostly mention the country and not the kingdom as I have more experience with it.
I hope we all have some fun and may you expect cheese within the next week. This is a threat.
I am married to @offical-liechtenstein
Fijne dag iedereen <3
Read further for blog canon and mod note
In canon for this blog (aka what did this shithole colonise!? I did quick research, contact me if I should change anything, Wikipedia is confusing):
Belgium is my child with France and has rejected us both
The Netherlands Antilles are my octuplets, Love them dearly, They still live with me
Western New Guinea is my child that India adopted
the Republic of Suriname is my child and I hope it lives its own wonderful life
Taiwan is my child but we are no longer in contact
Brazil is my child with Portugal who left the house and has done wonderful things since.
Mautitius is my child that France and later Britain adopted.
Surinam is still my lovely child tho it also got fostered by Britain and it has left the house.
I stole South Africa from its parents...I also let it go back to said parents at some point
Malaysia was passed onto my from Portugal and I handed it to britain who ran away with it
India is a foster kid with Britain, France and Portugal that has outgrown us
I got Sri-Lanka in the divorce with Portugal and left it to go do its own thing.
USA is merely someone I helped raised. I am disowning that thing. It is Britains mistake now.
Note: Blog reader is Agender with any/all pronouns, I live near Rotterdam and I am 19, so currently in college. ( @mersinia )
If I get anything wrong I am sorry, my history classes existed off of napoleon and WW2 and my knowledge of the other countries is practically 0.
Technically they mean Cours Préparatoire, Cours Élémentaire and Cours Moyen but i had to look that up cause no one mentions it ever
Also I just realized but we don’t have “kindergarten” in the same way Americans do, where you’re 5-6 years old, we have Petite Section, Moyenne Section, and Grande Section
PS is 3-4 years old, MS is 4-5, and GS is the equivalent of kindergarten, ie 5-6
(well. more or less. I was born in the fall so i started school at age 2 technically, i just turned 3 a little after school started) (the cut-off is december 31rst, unlike in the US where it’s august 31rst)
Found it! On the left is the ages
Primary goes "Group 1" to "Group 8" just in names and then the first school beyond that USUALLY is "Year 1" to "Year [4/5/6]"
And then after that all the names just fucking get changed per school
@france-the-third what do you think of our school system?

Wait does that mean miffy used to be non-binary up until that moment? Intersex miffy? Because it used to be stories and then the dress ment female.....meaning miffy wasn't female until perceived....
There's a whole website collecting those kind of roads/trails/routes in the Netherlands, I think they started out as an Instagram page ( that's how I knew them). They are already publishing a second book about it.
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)
-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt

☝️🤓 it’s because the further you move toward the earth’s poles, the lower the angle of the sun is at the hottest parts of the day, meaning the radiation hits your whole body, causing it to feel 10-20 degrees warmer than the thermometer reading will tell you. People from tropical climes, aka close to the equator, are used to the sun’s radiation hitting a much smaller target- their head and shoulders.
Also the further you move toward the poles the more pronounced the difference between the length of day and night is. Worst part of a far-north (or south) heatwave is it doesn’t get dark long enough for meaningful cooling.
important reminder from @wretched-creature! Make sure to use seeds of native wildflowers or other plants native to your area, so you don’t spread invasive species!
Here in the Netherlands you can get a free package of local flower seeds, that bloom at different times throughout the season, mailed to you by Natuurmonumenten, maybe check out if there’s similar initiatives in your area!
