The saddest thing they could do in Episode 9 is reprogram/bring back Caine and then have him cover THIS
This will not happen in EP 9 but I DESPERATELY NEED an animatic of Sad Post-EP 8 Caine singing this song to the circus members (ukelele optional)

"If they introduce either of them, I hope they are straight up villains. I am tired of Jesus Was A Nice Guy Actually interpretations of that particular prophet, it lets Christianity off the hook far too easy."
That is certainly a challenge because, just as Tv Tropes explains in their page for "Jesus Was Way Cool" (a.k.a: this trope), he is God in human form who routinely mingled with and was willing to forgive those who were considered outcasts even to the church primarily through the pen and not the sword
9 times out of 10, you will look like a asshole because you're demeaning what might essentially be the most universal "Greatest Of All Time" to ever exist
See this is the shit I'm talking about. It's this shit right here. I am so tired of this exact thing.
"Jesus was so nice" he was a cult leader who claimed to have the divine power to define and forgive human sin, and you live in a culture which is pathologically obsessed with worshipping him, even while the religion he founded has slaughtered and persecuted untold millions of people over the course of two thousand years in his name.
I'm not particularly atheistic as a person, but I feel vomit well up in my throat when people uncritically and without a hint of irony take it as Literal Gospel that Jesus Was Nice Actually, and that it would somehow be unfair to him to use him in fiction to embody literally any of the bad things that his religion has done.
I dunno man, maybe the apocalypse cult leader's eschatological teachings are partly to blame for how the followers of his religion obsess over sin and purity in the eyes of God? Maybe his claim to be an instrument of universal divine justice on Earth is partly to blame when his followers abuse and murder non-Christians as enemies of that divine justice?? Maybe some of the things Jesus said and did have a causative impact on how the followers of his teachings behave??
But no, I'm just talking crazy talk here. Everyone knows that the things Jesus said and did can never be to blame for any bad thing that Christians do, but they can always be credited for all the good things that Christians do.
Only the good things, because Jesus Was Nice. He was the universal Greatest Of All Time. It says so on tv tropes dot org
I mean I get it, I get the rage and frustration about how Christianity has quite honestly devastated the world.
But you really have to remember that very few people ever actually read the Bible. They just accept whatever slop is taught to them as children or by casual pastors in churches.
As an ex Mormon, it's expected by the time you graduate high school, you've read the old testament, new testament, and the Mormon scriptures at least twice over. Most will have done this if they're more bought into the cult attitude of righteousness. Many will go to BYU which requires multiple religious studies class that require focus on either old or new testament, the Mormon scriptures, and one elective style class (I did historical looks on global religions which covered zoroastrianism, and others)
As such, the Mormon church has a base that is more educated than the average Christian in regards to the content of the Bible.
Christ was a revolutionary against the Jewish sects. He was compassionate, but gave 0 shits about the attitude of the "holier than thou" upper crusts of the Jewish leaders. He taught to reach out to the lowest dregs of society and treat them with kindness and charity. When the temple became a ground for corporate greed, as people profited off of religion, he fucking flipped tables and told them to get that shit out of the temple.
He condemned the people who refused to offer aid to those in need, and celebrated those who overcame the prejudices and hatred of their culture to help those considered beneath them.
Humans are fucking human and will use any excuse they can to exclude "out groups" because humans are deeply tribal creatures, and once we've decided certain people aren't part of our tribe we will refuse to open up and let them in. Christianity has been just a bigger way to create that "Us vs Them" tribalism that has been the cause of every conflict in human history.
Yeah Christianity is a current issue, but hell Christianity also fucking discriminated against gnostic Christians, and the number of Schisms in Christian history has resulted in just more us vs them mentality.
Christ was a radical progressive, and he got killed for it. People have now used that "persecution" as a reason to persecute others
You are still doing it. You are still doing the thing. You are uncritically accepting the framing and understanding of Jesus developed by Christians in Christian texts for Christian audiences, and what i am trying to ask people to do is to just for one picosecond adopt a hostile reading of those texts, or literally any frame of understanding of them other than credulity!
"Wow, I'm reading this book about Dienetics and L. Ron Hubbard sure is a swell guy! He was a revolutionary against the galactic tyrant Xenu! Sure, his followers have done some bad things in his name, but Ron was a radical progressive!"
For just a moment, please understand Christian theology and Christian texts and Christian narratives as what they are: propaganda literature, written by and for members of a cult to reinforce and justify their own moral and political belief systems.
Literally not one single word of the Bible is written in Jesus' own hand, all of it is writing ABOUT the man, after his death, by other people with an agenda for how they wanted his martyrdom to be meaningful politically and spiritually. It is a text with hundreds of authors, all competing for authority.
If there was a historical Jesus, he did not heal the sick, did not turn water to wine, did not feed 5000 people or walk on water, and was not resurrected after being dead in a cave for three days. And because we know that all of those stories about him are, generously speaking, fucking fairy tales, we should also be able to accept that the rest of the stories about him are not credible historical reportage either, and understand that "Jesus" is a literary creation who bears at best passing resemblance to whatever real man may have inspired him.
Please be willing to read the Bible with the same frame of skepticism that you would use for any other piece of beatific cult literature. The Bible makes Jesus look like a swell guy because it is religious propaganda designed to glorify a martyr and rhetorically justify structuring power around his (purported) dogmas.
Once we adopt a skeptical or hostile reading of the Bible, and once we understand Jesus as a literary creation, maybe then we can treat him like one and have him play a villain in a TV show.
Maybe then he can be used to narratively embody a critique or satire or mockery of his pop cultural persona or his movement in history or the religious dogma that is ascribed to him, just the same as we do with so many other historical and religious and folkloric figures. And maybe we can do it without credulous cultural Christians jumping in to be like "um actually this is factually incorrect, Jesus was historically an uwu cinnamon roll smol bean, it says so in my favourite fanfic!"
The eschatology espoused by Christ in the Bible is and remains fucked up, by the way, I will not yield on this. Human life on Earth is not a gauntlet of noble suffering whose misery is justified and paid for by a reward in the afterlife. Being oppressed and abused does not make you spiritually more pure it just fucks you up and usually makes you a worse person. And the meek shall not inherit the fucking Earth, the Earth will be strip mined and left a scorched wasteland by capital holders unless the meek stop sitting prayerfully in their holy misery and start [redacted] some fucking executives' houses.
"Render unto Caesar" how about render unto the oppressor a mouthful of their own broken teeth actually, Jesus, how about that? Maybe it kinda sucked how you made a virtue out of material inaction against oppression, maybe "turn the other cheek" is dogshit advice for making a better world on Earth. Maybe the idea that the suffering of the poor shall be repaid in the kingdom of heaven has turned out to be a really effective way of justifying keeping the poor fucking miserable.
Rich men can't enter the kingdom of heaven? Oh wow, I guess I'll enjoy my epic moral victory over Jeff Bezos as the AI data centers cook the atmosphere and drink the lakes dry. Truly, the most noble thing an oppressed person can do is die about it!
I'm not even a fucking atheist, i don't think religion is inherently either good or bad and I don't think Christianity is evil or poisonous. I am just so desperately bored with the special little moral exception carve out that is constantly given especially to Jesus specifically, sheltering him from ever being portrayed as anything other than a really swell guy who is sooooooooo tragically misunderstood, and who can never be held responsible for any bad things done in his name, but always be credited with the good things. I am sick of people considering it somehow taboo to mock or be rude about a fucking cult leader.
YES. THIS. ALL OF THIS. EVERY SINGLE LAST BIT OF THIS.

~Things I would do if I played Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame~
"No, last year, [Frollo] said 'someday.........maybe!'" is played for laughs.
Smiling but very confused during the end of Topsy Turvy, like "oh they like me now, ok, I'm still not really sure what changed in those few seconds-"
Like in a community theatre production I saw, I don't reject Phoebus' help following Quasimodo being attacked.
"Oh no, not me, gargoyle..." is played for laughs like in the Papermill production/boot.
For "But in winter...cold", I actually try to think of something to say before simply settling on "...cold"
I do the "oh I'm gonna fall!" trick more than once during "Top of the World"
Absolutely lovesick during "Heaven's Light"
Straight up BOLTING for the bells at the end of "Emeralda"
Quite confused at the start of "Flight Into Egypt", like "where did Saint Aphrodisius come from???"
My Quasi is the absolute WORST liar. It's a miracle Frollo believes him in the scene following "Flight Into Egypt"-
I do little jazz hands towards the statues when I tell Frollo I'm just talking to "....my friends!" after hiding Phoebus
Starts internally/not so subtly panicking when Frollo puts his lamp on the finger of the statue.
"It's a clue!....she gave me!" is played for laughs like in the Papermill production/boot.
Quasi says "I don't hear anything" (like in the aforementioned community theatre production I saw) rather than Phoebus; played for laughs.
I'm absolutely devastated during "In a Place of Miracles", almost crying.
Angriest "Made of Stone" ever XD
G note at the end of "Made of Stone"
Smiling during the "Made of Stone reprise" in the finale, like I'm saying to the statues "hell yeah let's do this!!"
Brief pause before I reply "Yes, your friend!" to Esmeralda. I'm sad that Esmeralda doesn't romantically like me but then it hits me that being her friend is still the greatest honor.
Barely containing anger when Frollo says he could've loved Esmeralda.
I whisper "yes I do" while the gargoyles whisper "yes you do"
I make it a bit more clear that Quasi killing Frollo was spur of the moment and in a blind rage, so when he says the "There lies all I have ever loved" line, and it works a bit better.
I give Phoebus a hug during the "Out There reprise" in the finale.
More of a directorial thing, but I keep the marks on my face, so I'm deformed along WITH the cast. I saw a comment on a video related to the musical (I forget what video tho-) where the acceptance of Quasimodo in the musical is less of "you're beautiful like us" like in the Disney movie and more of "we're ugly like you". I like that a lot more than what the show does. (everyone is deformed other than Quasimodo)
Either the townsfolk reveal they are deformed in their own ways like in the US productions or a crowd gathers around Quasi and young girl who is deaf like him signs "I love you" to him like in the community theatre production I saw.

WHEN I WASā
Okay, Disney? Disney. Hear me out.
Notre Dame de Paris just reopened. The 30th anniversary of HOND is approaching. Paul Kandel (the Clopin VA) may or may not be still alive; god knows where he is. The Muppets are gradually losing relevance under Disneyās name with MuppetVision3D closing. Disney doesnāt know what to do with them.
ā¦Iām just saying, so long as Kandel is A) alive and B) has no allegations to his name, thereās a collab desperately waiting to happen.
Every now and again, I think about the swell of the last chorus in the intro song and Paul Kandel/Clopin's voice in "The Bells of Notre-Dame" and still get goosebumps.
Wait til you look up Kandel playing Herod in Jesus Christ Superstarās 2000 Broadway revival (not the movie).
There are two separate recordings. Both times, he hits a 20-second note (!) for probably comedic purposes.
Only conclusion: he did that note every night 8 nights a week.
Good. GOD.
Now, I canāt stop laughing because Iām listening to the original āOut Thereā on Spotify and every time Tom Hulce hits a high note in the latter half of the song, all I hear is:
And just so you know, I raised a lamb as a teen. I know what those fuckers sound like. When he sings theĀ āmenā inĀ ālike ordinary men,ā he sounds exactly like Porkchop, one of the other kidsā lambs.
I need to get this out of my head, butā¦
Eh, Iām a sucker for the vibrato.
knowing tom hulce is gay makes watching the hunchback of notre dame that much more agonizing

Below are some of this actor's roles. Please only check after voting!
Oh hello there.
Are Lars and Clopin Trouillefou related?
When it comes to Disney, thereās no shortage of fan theories connecting separate films together. One Iāve always thought about as a kid but no-one seems to talk about is the idea that Lars from the direct-to-video sequel 101 Dalmatians 2: Patchās London Adventure is a descendant of Clopin Trouillefou from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Even as a kid I could always notice the similarities:
Build and body-type.
Voice (despite different voice actors)
Facial features, nose especially.
Hair colour.
Goatee beards.
Predilection for creative outlets. Lars being an artist and Clopin being a Jack of all trades.
Rapid mood swings, going from really eccentric and bombastic to very laid back in their personalities. Pay attention the way they will delivery certain lines.
Large feet.
Being situated in European countries (current referendum not withstanding).
Also this could be stretching it, but I find it kind of cute how despite being clad in all black, the only colour Lars wears are his purple shades. Clopin always wearing purple in both his jester and normal outfits. And even then the only other colours he wear on his outfit are colours that are close to purple (pink and blue) or compliment it (yellow).
Back when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, I initially thought Lars was French. Making an easy connection to Clopin living in Paris. With 101 Dalmatians taking place in early 20th century London and Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1400s/1500s France, itās not exactly a great distance travelled between potential family. BUT then upon watching the film again later I realised that Lars is more than likely meant to be German. Something I should have already guessed by his Germanic name. I will defend myself by saying that Martin Shortās performance of Lars does make his accent slightly hard to determine. Not dissimilar to Paul Kandelās performance as Clopin, whose accent was deliberately non-specific.
Accents aside, I think they still really sound like each other:
Despite my initial mistake, this gives my theory better credibility. Since France and Germany are right next-door to each other. Meaning him and his Truands (in the book he was the King of Truands = the criminals and outcasts of Paris) wouldnāt have had far to venture. (I know this is Tumblr and some people get a little testily in claiming that āGyspyā is an incredibly offense racial slur exclusive to Romani. So, Iāll keep saying āTravellerā in this post, so as not to kick that particular hornetās nest).
Being a child of mixed-race myself, I made the assumption that if Clopin and the rest of the Romani travellers stayed in Europe, then they would inevitably mix with the native Caucasians. We all have a drop of blood from other countries and races, apparently. And given the massive gap through the centuries, itās nothing short of incredible Lars would keep the features he has from Clopin while still having parts independent of him, such as his white complexion and green eyes. Even if the Disney Wiki says he has violet eyes for some reason. Whereas Clopin had black eyes and brown skin.
On the other hand, Esmerelda is the same race and she has green eyes.
A lot of the Romani where descended from low-caste North-West Indians (Gujarat, Rajasthan, and the area we now know as Pakistan but at the time would have still been India). Migrating from India across to Europe over 1000 years ago. Many tell-tale signs of their heritage found in their appearance, clothing and most noticeably Esmerelda and her mother (Her and Quasi were swapped at birth in the book though I think it plays a little differently here) sporting fashion styles reminiscent of the country. Plus light-skinned Romani/Indian people defiantly exist. How much is down to genetics or those god-forsaken Fair & Lovely creams, I donāt know. I know thereās always going to be a racial elephant in the room with this. But there are plenty of great articles to tell you more about it better than I possibly could.
But as with many fan-theories, there are inevitably some holesā¦
We canāt link them by family name. While we know that Clopinās surname is Trouillefou but we never find out Larsās surname. However, that could end up changing depending how theyāre related. Naturally it goes well against anything canonical. If you want to acknowledge the original book by Victor Hugo, youāll recall that Clopin was killed during the final climactic fight at Notre Dame when he gathers his group to storm the cathedral to try and save Esmeralda from the docks. Quite a few beloved characters in that book meet rather grizzly ends.
Also, I havenāt read the original 101 Dalmatians novel, but Iām going to hazard a guess and say Lars was made up for the film. Feel free to correct me if Iām wrong. To be fair Iāve seen many other Disney fan-theories persist on much shakier foundations than these ones. Including a similar theory that Jane from Tarzan is a descendant of Belle form Beauty & the Beast. Plus thereās always still the possibility that they just happened to be designed in a similar fashion. This is DisneyĀ after all.Ā Granted, these two are designs I really like and I wonāt lie might have influenced a character in my own series Iām writing.
Thatās my two penneth on the theory. Ā Ā What do you recon?
Special thanks to @strangehyperbole for the info on Romani/Indian history.
Oh.
Oh if you think those two sound similar allow me to plop a completely unrelated thing into the midst of this Disney-related stew.
