Spider eyes 🥺
The Queering the Map project launched in May 2017 so I'm thinking about Shane reading an article on it that summer at the cottage, still warm from an afternoon with Ilya in the sun, then pulling up a little rink in Saskatchewan on it and in a moment of daring posting a pin with "December 2008. Fell in love with him here ❤️". A little shiver runs through him, and after some minor anxiety about IP tracking he moves on with his day and eventually forgets.
Years later, one of the rookie Centaurs brings up the map in conversation at a team party and mentions his favorite pin, an odd one at the Saskatchewan rink. Shane goes a little pale but lingers to hear, just in case. The rookie pulls it up on his phone and reads it out:
"December 2008. A shy smile, two handshakes, and a million freckles like stars. I have chased him ever since."

Little freaks
My boss has a new boss who's been dropping in to check on how different sites are doing and I keep introducing her to the clients by going "This is Hank. Hank, this is my boss's boss, she's very important, please tell her nice things about me" and that's my big Autistic secret to professional networking. Letting them think you're funny
Other fun Professional Hacks:
"Networking" doesn't have to feel like one big huge façade of manipulation and lies. You just find people you like. The things you talk about don't even have to be related, you just gotta find people who you like working with who you might reach out to for questions or projects later.
You don't need to look professional and respectable or like a "real" adult. I like to just show up and make it clear I'm receptive to jokes and quirks and weird ideas, and the people who vibe with that usually come to me.
Introduce people you like to other people you like. Talk them up. You can tell your boss "This is Mike he kicks ass, he knows everything about this place, if you want to know something talk to him, if he ever quits we're stealing him"
I found can't think of a polite or socially normal way to say something, sometimes you can just say it like "I don't know if this is dumb or not but I don't know anything about this. Can you explain what you mean?", or "I was taught something different. Should I change how I've been doing it?". I've never had a negative reaction to this.
When in doubt, ask a weird question. "What's your favorite dessert food" is a p good one. Sometimes folks think I'm childish but at least they know what they're getting into and they know I'm not judging them.
Sometimes when higher-ups approach me with a stiff upper lip I'll test the waters with a "is your job as insane as it sounds" or something similar to remind them that I, a worker performing a role, and speaking to them, a worker performing a role. If they give a stiff and measured answer I stay distant and professional. If their performance cracks and their tone changes or they smile or laugh or give a funny reply I know I can relax and joke a bit too.
I still don't enjoy business stuff outside of the most basic day to day duties of my job and conventions n shit are still pretty draining but learning that other people are also following a script and the performance has room for "yes-and" type improv has helped a lot
shout out to potc character Bootstrap Bill Turner because if he did not have the galaxy brain idea to hide a cursed piece of gold from a bloodthirsty, vicious, immortal pirate crew by sending it to his defenseless child, non of the movies would have taken place the way they did.
Literally father of all time no further notes no further comments

sorry—is anyone else feeling “significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning”
Sitting here watching the delivery tracker app as the little icon of the car very slowly increases in width while remaining in the same spot knowing it's just a glitch of some kind, but, like, imagine.
Peering sourly at my phone like "ah shit, they sent the Wide Car again".
I love when it decides to correct a desync between the app and the location, so it just shows the car doing a blues brothers through several culdesacs and a lake.

fired from my job at the microbiology lab and having to carry all my things out in a little cardboard box the size of a thimble
Can someone add context to all of this? I dont follow hank green closely
A few years ago Hank Green put out a video about knitting where he was extremely condiscending about it, and clearly demonstrated that he doesn't understand how important it has been throughout history. Many people rightly accused him of expressing a subconscious misogynistic bias.
A short time after that he put out a video on HRT that ingolved several transmasc people, but didn't so much as consult a single transfeminine person about feminizing HRT. As a result the information it put out about feminizing HRT was not just wrong but severelt dangerous. If anyone followed the advice in the video they would have developed osteoporosis.
After both of these scandals his "appologies" were extremely milktoast. In the case of the HRT video it was barely existant. As he just put out an "apology" letter in the chat portion of SciShow's youtube channel. A section most people don't even know exists. And in both cases the "apology" basically just amounted to "woopsie! Sometimes we get things wrong *shrug.*"
Recently his videos have been drawing a lot of criticism from people who've noticed that they seem like they're written by AI. And just this week Hank Green admitted that he uses it heavily, and that he may be addicted to it.
Got that pussy that tastes like McDonald's sprite
which one of you cowards just unfollowed me
