when bjork said “you’ll be given love, you’ll be taken care of. maybe not from the sources you’ve poured yours. maybe not from the direction you are staring at. twist your head around. it’s all around u” SHE WAS RIGHT!!!!!!
OK, so.
For folks still in academia - odds are if you had a particularly strict prof this would still be considered plagiarism unless you cited the source (unless the fact is widely known in which case you just have to preface with something that indicates or implies what you’re saying is general knowledge. I don’t have to cite a source that the Moon orbits the Earth, for example - we’ve known that for literally centuries).
What they mean when they say “use your own words, don’t just copy the book” is actually “take information from multiple sources, read it, analyze it, and collate it into something new that is your own creation.” Yanno that saying, “If you steal from one author, it’s plagiarism. If you steal from many, it’s research.”? (fun fact: this common expression is itself an example of the very thing it describes - if you like etymology and idioms, you can look up the history of the expression here) Yeah. Academia works exactly this way. If you write a paper with only one source, it’s still basically plagiarism, you haven’t put any original thought or effort into making something new.
If, instead, you fact-check your source with other sources and get a diverse range of (reputable) opinions on the subject, you can pull it all together into something new. Even though none of the facts you’re presenting are new, your conclusions and your presentation are your own. It is wholly your creation, building off the work of those who’ve gone before - exactly as Newton meant when he said, “ If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Which is also a great example of collecting concepts from many sources and distilling them to their essence in your own work.
I used to think it was important to have common interests with the person that you are in a relationship with but now I think it is more important to be similar in other aspects. like how kind you are. how you treat the people you care about, how you treat strangers. how you deal with anger. how you deal with pain. and not necessarily dealing with all these things the same way but being perceptive enough to understand what action each situation calls for. it’s important for both people to be on the same page about what that action should be. it’s important to me to have that kind of synchrony.
This is the post exudes emotional maturity.

OH MY GOD
Hey just so you know - your teachers? A lot of us aren’t dumb. We know this trick. It has been around for a really long time - and what it does is make us not trust you. You need an extension on an assignment? Talk to your teacher. That’s a better life hack; learn how to have uncomfortable conversations. It sucks, but you do need to learn time management and how to deal with the consequences of your actions. A lot of teachers are, you know, human, and we understand that things get busy and stressful. We get that there are times when you need more help or more time. In fact, many of us are even willing to give up our own time to help you. But when you pull stuff like this? It shows that you don’t respect us or our time - so it might work for you, but only once, and then if you need help after that, your teacher might be a little hesitant because you’ve lied to us before.
as you get older, you realize that you’re not always right and there’s so many things you could’ve handled better, so many situations where you could’ve been kinder and all you can really do is forgive yourself and let your mistakes make you a better person.
Hot take: on a scale of nerd vs jock, LARPing is a more jockish activity then fantasy football.
LARPing: people going outside and being physically active, requires working as a team with people
Fantasy Football: poindexters on the computer, playing with stats
