Kieran walked out of his house and sat down on his doorstep with two small presents. One of them was from a dear friend he missed and the other was from the girl, the girl that got away. He dropped them down onto the ground and sighed. “I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that I’m afraid to see how bad the house is compared to the foyer or that there are presents from people that it hurts to think about.”
Piper rubbed her arm awkwardly, frowning at Kieran's wistful state. "It really isn't that bad, Kier. I mean, compared to the Gunner's..." She chewed on her lower lip, trying to sound as reassuring as possible. She wandered forward to pat her friend on the back. "Hush now, there's no need to get your knickers in a twist."

As for the letter, I'll burn it then use its ashes for my kitten's litter box."
Layla didn’t know what the fuck fish-sticks she was doing, either, so Piper’s question was quite the good one. She wasn’t exactly sure how to get into this ‘conventional Christian’ character she had to play, considering she’d never met a conventio - your father’s home - conventional Christian. It made it even more difficult that it’d potentially cost her the only friendships (yes, friendships, not friendly acquaintanceships, because she was desperate at this point) she had, but it was isolation or publication, and she’d damn darn well been isola - EWMN - isolated before.. “Heck,” she replied, tapping her foot nervo - and hammered, and hammered - nervously, then sei - Psalm 137:9 - seizing the action. “I’m not trying to be funny, Piper,” she said. Internally, she was already throwing in the towel and quitting the charade, but it was too early to externally.
Piper eyed Layla's foot that fidgeted on the ground, as if she were trying to take out all her pent up frustration on an imaginary fly. "Well then," Her words tumbled out in a cool tone as she narrowed her eyes. "What a great liar you are." Piper muttered huskily, swaying slightly on her feet. This was the only way she felt she could talk to this "blessed" version of Layla. The tables had turned, and now, the only one who was cowering and vulnerable was Layla. Which reminded her..."Where the hell is your shank?" She questioned viciously, her eyes quickly roaming over her body, in frantic search of the weapon Layla never parted with.
"Oh… well then I think it’s time we poured it down the sink, don’t you? And then we can sit down and cuddle whilst you tell me what’s wrong."
Piper stared at the alcohol, rage boiling in the pits of her belly. How did everything go from being so right to so wrong? In a sudden fit of anger, Piper flung the bottle across the room and watched with utter satisfaction as it shattered violently. "I don't wanna talk about it." She muttered, again wanting to push away those who were closest to her in order to somehow spare them the burden that she was.
"I do love you, don’t deny it — you know I’m someone who means it," Cade reassured, reaching over the counter to grab a plastic ziplock that was set there for him. He began putting ice in the bag, shaking his head slowly at Piper. "You’re such a dork," he said fondly, turning his head to give the brunette a warm smile. "Anyway, um," he stopped putting ice in the plastic bag since his fingers were beginning to feel a bit numb. "I’m wearing sunglasses because I have a black eye," he mumbled, not wanting to draw attention even if the sunglasses didn’t help.
Piper tipped her head to the side, giving the boy a sad smile. "Sure," Even she knew that her tone behind the word she spoke didn't convey any sort of reassurance. Her smile fell as she processed Cade's words. She jumped from her place on the sofa and picked his sunglasses gently off of his nose. She cringed slightly at the bruising and snatched the bag of ice from Cade's nervous grasp. She gently placed it on his eye and made a disapproving click with her tongue. "How's your vision?" She asked, her voice adopting a motherly tone laced with a doctorly professionalism. Her next question was softer, a quiet whisper, "Who...who gave it to you?" A name was already drifting like a taunting echo in her mind.
"Well, I couldn’t go doing that until you at least recommended some of your favourites to me."

Gunner’s eyes narrowed with suspicion and distrust as he looked at her. “Deranged and insane. Wonder why,” he said, sarcasm thick on his lips.
Piper lost interest in conversing with the man and let her gaze wander aimlessly, her wicked grin falling into a limp frown. At Gunner's words, she merely grunted in agreement, after all, how could it be denied? Her sanity had slipped away years ago. Piper had also noticed that Charlie had fled Telluride, leaving Gunner all by himself. The situation seemed all too familiar to the sad brunette. "I just don't understand," She whispered, wrapping her arms around herself, "Why my love is never enough to make people stay."
