i need help. i'm a filipino lesbian with bipolar and adhd and i'm the breadwinner to a disabled household.

i'm getting laid off at work by the end of the month because i can't relocate, without any prospect yet. i don't think i'll be able to get the same salary.

quite honestly we have a lot of expenses for the month, but every dollar counts, since the conversion rate is high to philippine peso. any amount helps. my mother has a tumor close to her ear and needs to eat healthily.

This week’s #zine #review is “How to Save Tomato Seeds to Grow Next Year,” as found at my local library!

This zine doesn’t say who made it, though it does note the image sources. I love finding zines like this out in the world — it always makes me feel so lucky.

Reading this, I learned a practical way to preserve seeds. I'd never realized there was a technique to it, and I feel like I've been let in on a secret. It makes me feel like I actually could grow tomatoes!

This week’s #zine #review is “Keep Out” by Leif at @its.weird.now!

I love minizines that act as a kind of business card for the zinester. I picked up this one and found a new zinester to follow!

This little zine is a bit bigger than a quarter. It's a miniature composition book, complete with red and blue lines! I think I could write small enough to use it as a notebook, but at the same time, it's so cute that I don't want to put anything in it!

This week’s #zine #review is “Guide to DVD-R Preservation” by Jackie Forsyth for Teaching Archiving Preserving Exhibiting analog media!

I try to be a person who's good at letting things go. If I'm honest, part of it is because I don't like to think about the troubles of preservation. Tech marches on; does anyone really have the power to save anything?

This zine says yes. TAPE gives information on how to bring data from one medium to another. The info is presented in a simple, easy-to-read format, which I appreciated. It felt good to have this knowledge presented to me, so I'm glad I read it.

‘Red Planet Earth’ is a Native American science fiction fanzine from 1974. Created by Cherokee writer Craig Kee Strete, it’s regarded as the first science fiction zine by North American Indigenous writers. Red Planet Earth ran for six issues and included a mix of short stories, poetry, articles and more. Describing itself as “a magazine of American Indian science fiction”, it featured contributions from Strete, as well as other Native American writers.

This week’s #zine #review is “Zine Studies” by Sara Chittenden, the organizer of the Grand Rapids Zine Fest @grzinefest!

I picked this up at the 2025 Grand Rapids Zine Fest. I was surprised to learn that Sara is the (singular!) organizer of the fest. Thank you, Sara. The fest is always a happy memory of the city for me.

This zine pulls some quotations about zines, DIY, and zine community. I liked how these quotations bring zine culture into the context of academic research. The citations directed me toward further reading. This was a fun souvenir of the fest and a good "mission statement" about the fest's purpose.

This week's #zine #review is "Cross Your T & Dot Their Eyes" by Star @crossyourt!

The word that comes to mind in relation to this zine is steel. The clean aesthetics of the zine complement the sharpness of the words inside -- unapologetic, proud, welcoming. I love the collage and the use of photography here. I'm a fan of this zine series and I hope the creator has a good time making it.

This week's #zine #review is "The Hungover Gourmet Issue 13," published by Dan Taylor @HungoverGourmet!

Now *this* is a journal. A text-full zine that approaches food from a wide variety of angles, Hungover Gourmet dives right in to how we treat food. It's in black-and-white, which made me step back and consider how I usually see food. Grocery shopping is a colorful experience in real life; here, it's an analysis of memory and economics.
