Tom cruise is so interesting to me because he’s a good actor when he wants to be, and when he’s not sort of relying on flying a plane upside down and climbing up the side of some horrible glass building in the middle of a desert to hide any sort of genuine emotional connection between himself and the material…he’s very compelling….. but the stench of Scientology, his divorces (and subsequent estrangement from his daughter, though that’s maybe to her benefit) and that one Oprah interview have all contributed to an image I have of him as a fairly soulless manic automaton when he’s not on a film set or at a premiere. It’s like he has shark eyes 90% if the time, in my mind.
