Her response to receiving criticism on posting said upskirt was to essentially argue that the trans woman had it coming and as was basically asking for it because of what she was wearing.

April 17, 2020: Early on in my development as a photographer, I self-assigned a project to photograph the same person once a week for a year. The idea was to push the point of view of the photographer while the subject stays the same. This idea was one of the key building blocks in my developing my photographic style.⠀ ⠀ I was lucky to collaborate with an acting student from @DePaulU whom I met at a local coffee shop. Her name is @gilliana, and I will share a few of our images made together for the next few posts. This image was made with my 8X10 #Deardorff camera with a #Kodak Portrait lens. The light was an 11-inch reflector with a grid attached using #Speedotron strobes. I created this in the studio using color negative film.

April 18, 2020: This image is from my year-long project with @Gilliana outlined in the prior Instagram post.⠀ I was very much interested in the contact sheet as final art. Thus, I planned out the shooting sequence in which to make a single image appear in the correct order. I shot this in my studio using a #Hasselblad 500CM fitted with extension tubes to aid the #150mm lens to focus closer to the subject. The final was printed on traditional black and white silver paper toned in a custom #sepia tone that I created

April 19, 2020: This image is from my year-long project with @Gilliana outlined prior on IG.⠀ ⠀ I was very lucky that in addition to having wonderful acting skills in front of the camera, Gillian additionally had impeccable taste in her personal style of dress. I leaned on her a lot to bring clothes to use in the project. I have always had a soft spot for vintage hats.⠀ ⠀ This image was made with my 8X10 #Deardorff camera with a #Kodak Portrait lens. April 22, 2020: This is one of my favorite images from my year-long project @Gilliana. For me, the beauty of this frame is the addition of a tear on the edge of her eye. You can see in this frame; the tear is forming in her eye but I caught the frame before the tear dropped. Gillian had amazing control of her being and could take direction to reach any emotional level. It was a true pleasure to collaborate with her!⠀ ⠀ Because all of these images are analog, I have yet to have them all scanned. April 23, 2020: Again, from my year-long @Gilliana project I am sharing a different tear image than I discussed earlier. I was always very interested in exploring a wide range of both photographic visual treatments and human emotions during this project. Because Gillian had amazing control of her being she could take direction to reach any emotional level. If needed I could ask her to tear up anytime it seemed appropriate.⠀ ⠀ This image was made with my 8X10 #Deardorff camera and my usual #Kodak Portrait lens. I used the same lighting as several other images which was an 11-inch reflector with a grid attached using #Speedotron strobes.

April 24, 2020: This image is the last image for now from my year-long project with @gilliana outlined prior on IG.⠀ ⠀ Like I mentioned earlier, Gillian had amazing hats. I like working with a hat because it often brings the focus of the image into the eyes of the person being photographed. Gillian’s command of connecting with the camera is unparalleled.⠀ ⠀ This image was shot with a #Hasselblad 500 CM and an 80mm lens. It was shot on what the studio called the “Lunar Backdrop”. The Lunar backdrop is one of the many I created early in my career. Painting backdrops was how I made money to really get my studio rolling. The lighting is a 11-inch reflector with a grid and a diffusion panel powered by a Speedotron power pack and head.

These are wonderful. I know that GA is always said to possess "flawless beauty", but I think her beauty is spectacular not because it is "flawless" but because it is unconventionally singular -- and all the small "flawed" details of her face make a perfect, harmonious, heart-breaking ensemble (true beauty runs deep and is expressive and mysterious and the promises of secrets intrigue and touch us). The shape of her lips is peculiar. She might have a slight overbite (?), which a dentist today might probably suggest she'd correct. Her classic, elegant nose is something a woman striving for symmetric beauty might feel she has to "fix".

Beauty touches us when the eye has something to stumble upon, the deligt of a small imperfection; when we see there is a soul behind it. We're losing all this with the wish for superficial "perfection", conventional attractiveness. Is there anything more boring or empty than a flawless face with nothing behind?

All this is true for DD/Mulder's face, too. Nothing about his face is flawless. Everything together is a thing of unimagined, unique beauty.

like it just doesnt make any economic sense. replacing human labor with ai only makes sense if the output is as good or better and cheap as free. but just the fact that you have to build the massive data centers at all-- especially that gpus go bad in just a few years, but even if they didn't, the facility itself is going to be a big expense-- means it cant be cheap as free. they were banking on an uber type situation where they could crank up the prices once people switched to their business model, but the trade is literally "this will be cheaper than using human labor" so if it's not cheaper than human labor then people will just hire people again. and it's not even as good or reliable as a person. so while ai is "here to stay" in the sense that the technology exists and will find its niches, probably people are going to be sexting with them forever just maybe on local models, the current business model cannot survive and never possibly could.

it's all desperation. i do really believe ed zitron's rot economy idea, that the tech sector has been searching for a new internet or iphone or whatever that blows up and changes the world and they get to keep the profits so they'll uplift any garbage (hence nfts and the metaverse) to try and astroturf that. and relatedly, i think nvidia and the cloud compute companies and the ai companies are just passing the same dollar back and forth to create big numbers that paper over how bad the economy really is. it's all an attempt to keep the infinite growth hack going.

like i actually think all of the problems with ai are problems that already existed that are just getting a huge spotlight on them because of the massive reckless expansion and apocalyptic marketing. like people are cheating on essay assignments? no shit, they used to use fiver and other cheating services. higher ups are devaluing and trying to get rid of creatives? yeah, we've been talking about how vfx artists need to unionize for over a decade, especially people working on marvel movies. people with mental health problems are turning to the internet instead of getting support or medical assistance and end up hurting themselves as a result? yup, especially when it comes to like eating disorders, there are some really awful places that will validate you into the grave. data centers use a lot of energy and water? yeah, they also did that before they were used for ai, they do that for youtube and twitch, and tech in general is a massive source of pollution. politicians arent listening to their constituents' needs and demands, instead handing money and special privileges to corporations that wont keep up their end of the bargain? yeah, i remember the public transit proposals cancelled to hand money instead to elon and his terrible tunnels. like it all already existed, they're just doing it so much so quickly that people can actually see it in front of them

uninstall adobe acrobat. it is malware. it has been malware. these aren't opinions: acrobat meets the definition of malware.

it installs a user-login-time "startup" executable that ignores any windows directives to disable it on startup. doing so only removes the even-more-malicious taskbar-icon-creating advertisement-notification-creating process. no matter what you do, the sleeper "updater" process starts when you log in, and runs perpetually

it sends & receives encrypted network traffic both periodically and non-periodically. both are bad, both are suspicious, and a program doing both is more suspicious than the sum of their parts. and to boot: acrobat will polymorphically edit its code after such network activity

this isn't new: it has always done this. now, it does not even do the thing it is meant to: provide a way to interact with documents, which is amongst the very first features computers were built to provide. you can merely open PDFs and read some of their content in the narrow space between the requests for adobe to give them your money, and interface for features you cannot use (because you don't) or do not, have not, and will not ever need

adobe and microsoft would very much like the user's cultural norms around computers to allow for advertisement built into the local software and even operating system itself. the web being 100% advertisements was not enough! sure enough, acrobat will hijack the windows notifications system thing to give you the 2026 equivalent of pop-ups

i don't really know enough about windows software equivalents, so i'll paypal $20 to the first person that reblogs this with a list of 3-5 PDF reader/editor/etc acrobat equivalents that meet the following criteria:

open source, locally-built executables must match checksum of prebuilt distributed executable

no paid features/premium version/subscription/whatever

not a toy hobby project thing, must be windows-users-proof

Firefox's built-in PDF.js viewer: does everything you could want from a basic viewer, fast enough search, and can now do annotations for filling in forms and such

KDE Okular: is a decent viewer and can also do basic annotations, and is so not-a-toy that you can even download it on the Windows app store.

LibreOffice Draw: I don't ever really like having to open this but if you have to edit a PDF in detail it does work, and doesn't just vomit up a bunch of polygons when you give it text to work with. Better as an authoring tool than an editor.

I've 100% replaced free acrobat with the firefox built-in and it works wonderfully for general office use and research/reading/viewing. It doesn't have robust redaction capabilities, but if you need to fill and sign and highlight a form it's actually much more intuitive than acrobat reader.

I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.

on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human
