Sorry I fell off the planet again, the Spouse had a heart attack near the end of March and only just came home from the hospital this weekend. Will be back on here when we have caught up on Jet Lag.

firm believer you can't be a ''good person''. too much niuance to life.
you can be good (adjective) but you cannot be good (identity)
if you think you are good (identity) you are more likely to cause harm as you don't consider yourself to be capable of it
[looks for you in everything] [finds you there]

peace and quiet
The real horror of a Stepford Wives situation isn't 'the suburbs are creepy' or even 'conformity is creepy' or 'I don't wanna be replaced by a robot'
The horror is the idea that you might choose to spend your life with somebody only to realize they don't actually want a partner and friend, somebody with ambitions and thoughts and joy. They want somebody productive, compliant, and sexually available, and all your internal life is nothing but a barrier to that. That the person you love only loves what you do for them, and the less of the an actual person you are, the happier they are.

If you know the meaning of the word "defenestrate", do you remember how you learned it?
Yes (put it in the tags please I'm curious)
No
I don't know the meaning of the word defenestrate
Dad uses it in general conversation
My 8th grade Latin teacher when w learned the word fenestra which means window
Learned it in college during my History BA when we learned about the Defenestration of Prague.
Learned it from the sf fans I knew in Chicago in the 80s. I don't remember what context.
Someone randomly mentioned it in the band hall, which oddly enough was one of the few rooms in that high school without windows; this led to a plot to defenestrate an orange from the second floor, although I don’t know if it actually came to fruition.
gun to your head what are your top 3 albums of all time. no honorable mentions, no ties for third place i want to know your TOP 3 ONLY.

For this poll, only count alcoholic drinks that were available for the express purpose of drinking alcohol. Don't count drinks that contain alcohol but are primarily for other purposes, like communion wine.
How old were you when you had your first alcoholic drink?

Oh I need nuance.
The age where I had a drink-drink, like a glass of wine (in fact it was indeed a glass of wine, it was terrible wine, when my sister still drank she loved super-dry wines and I hate them), was 17, at my sister's wedding.
But when I was five or six my mom was hosting a barbecue and I was being pestery about wanting a Grown Up Drink like everyone else (they got fun bottles, I had a stupid plastic cup), so she told me I could have a beer if I took a drink of hers and liked it.
(I assume she knew exactly how this would go.)
I did not have a full beer, but I did cry.
I still hate beer, by the way.
I legitimately don’t remember whether it was a little dixie cup of mead at festival or a wine-cooler-y beverage at a party hosted by a friend of a friend, but it was one of those two and I would have been 21 or 22 at the time. I already knew I didn’t like the taste of alcohol due to the previously mentioned communion wine and I still don’t enjoy it - I find distilled alcohol in any form undrinkable without being diluted to barely detectable, and while I will drink ciders and various people’s homebrews when offered, so far I have found a grand total of *three* alcoholic beverages (two hard ciders and a small blackberry melomel) that I find preferable to water.
I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up
ok. and why would it be bad to be horny? why would it be bad to look at a photo of boobs for a long time? why would it be bad to look at a woman and be attracted to her? why would it be bad to be turned on by seeing a woman? why would it be bad to think of a woman lustfully? and why would any of this make someone a bad lesbian? quickly.
i’m tired of the jokes that hinge on the assumption that it is bad to look at or think of a woman lustfully, that it would make you a bad lesbian, a bad feminist. that it is somehow bad to be attracted to a woman. its not. it’s not! look hornily goddammit! it’s a photograph, you don’t need to “look respectfully” look as long and as horny as you want! she or they can’t see you! please free yourself we don’t have time for this.
ntm that on top of that, to treat attraction to women as inherently and necessarily predatory in nature cedes the antifeminist argument that people who commit sexual harassment or even assault had no choice and that responsibility lies with the victim to be less attractive/vulnerable.
otoh every time you look with lust upon a woman and don't harass or assault her, you're living proof that attraction to women shouldn't excuse harm. Every time you hit on a woman in an appropriate environment in a way that respects spoken and unspoken nos, you're proving that wanting to fuck a woman doesn't excuse mistreating her.
thinking about it like that made it easier for me to stop feeling so much shame about my desire for women, anyways
💜 thank you for the addition, yeah!
Actually…, yeah 🥹
