this would have got 100k notes as a tumblr post in 2018
man I sure love that character I wish the writers did too
i got these knockoff boots online and instead of the brand name on the tag they have the name of an apparently nonexistent martin scorsese movie??? what the fuck
THE ORIGINAL? ON MY DASH
this post led to a series of events that had martin scorsese himself reacting to his alleged movie goncharov and it has less than 400k notes almost 3 years later?
Throughout the history of Thedas, there had been multiple attempts to set the Litany of Adralla to music, both to serve as a memory aid and to have the melody provide a sense of comfort to the petitioner, in addition to the protection from demonic forces the litany itself provides.
None of these compositions have quite managed to rival the popularity of the rather controversial Mother Nicana version, which will be presented to you shortly.
Born in Jader in 7:56 Storm, Revered Mother Nicana was a figure as beloved by her faithful as she was inconvenient to her superiors.
Ever practical, as well as a fierce advocate for following the spirit of the Chant, regardless of the politics of the time, she faced criticism from peers in the Chantry for choosing the original Tevene text as the basis for her composition. When pressed, she simply answered that if she could find a single translation that fit the original's metre, she would consider it.
In spite of this short-lived controversy (or perhaps because of it), this version became popular especially among those who had need of the litany for practical uses, such as the Mourn Watchers of Nevarra.
The following are two performances of Mother Nicana's Litany of Adralla. One was performed by the lay sisters of the Tantervale Chantry. The other was heard sung in Kirkwall's Lowtown by an initial survivor (presumed to have been a minstrel employed in the Hanged Man tavern) of the catastrophic fallout of Anders' destruction of the Kirkwall Chantry in an attempt to protect himself and several others from the demons that surrounded them.
Lyrics (vowels in brackets are those that undergo elision; translation follows):
Auctor meus, miserere mihi,
Auctor mundi, avert(e) iram tuam.
Orig(o) omnis, miserere mihi,
Orig(o) animarum, avert(e) iram tuam.
Andraste, spons(a) Auctoris, audi me,
Andraste, sancta prophetis, audi me.
Redemptrix omnium, exaudi me,
Domina maeroris, exaudi me.
Ne patiamini animas piorum corrumpi,
in hor(a) aterrim(a) adiuvate servum vestrum humilem.
In nomin(e) Andrastes, fiat ita.
In nomin(e) Auctoris, fiat ita.
My Maker, have mercy on me,
Maker of the World, avert Thy wrath.
Origin of Everything, have mercy on me,
Wellspring of Souls, avert Thy wrath.
Andraste, Bride of the Maker, hear me,
Andraste, Holy Prophetess, hear me,
Redeemer of All, hear my prayer,
Lady of Sorrows, hear my prayer.
Let you not suffer the souls of the faithful to be corrupted,
in this darkest hour, aid your lowly servant.
In the name of Andraste, so let it be.
In the name of the Maker, so let it be.
Note: In the English version, "you" is used in the older sense of "you two" or "you all", while "thou" (or rather the possessive "thy") is used for the singular. Therefore, when asking for the Maker to avert His wrath, the penitent is addressing the Maker only. Later on, though, when asking for protection against corruption, they are addressing both the Maker and Andraste.
This distinction is also present in the Latin text.
i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.
So, Occtis has a really hot, tall, fit (homicidal) goth older brother who likes to host parties and thinks sleeves are bullshit.
Move outta the way Ingrid Einfasen.
10/10 will betray Occtis for this.
the thing about misogyny is that nothing makes apparent how prevalent it is faster than just pointing out misogyny, which will have people scuttering out of the damn sewers like ninja turtles to accuse you of being an overly sensitive shit-stirring know-nothing who's making up things to be offended about. which is actually also pretty misogynistic, but if you point it out people will come scuttering out of the damn sewers—
I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
Those shockingly high “illiteracy” statistics that go around aren’t saying that like 22% of Canadians or 21% of Americans or whatever literally can’t read.
That’s the number of people at level 1 literacy or below. Level 1 literacy is like grade school level. Able to read labels and straightforward instructions and whatnot.
Which is like. Still higher than the ideal for sure, but it’s not like a fifth of adults literally can’t read. They’re just kinda bad at it.
As some other responses pointed out, this means since people are *very* bad at reading. They may hit Literacy 1 targets when trying very hard, but when they’re just walking about they might not put the effort in. They don’t read signs—I’ve met literate people who also won’t read signs, because they’re “tired of reading signs at this age.”
Many things also require higher literacy—the US requires a credit score, which requires credit cards. Many students take out student loans for university. Employment contracts can have confusing language for someone who only meets Lit 1 targets, and may be vague even for people who read at university level due to unfamiliar language, atypical word usage specific to the legal field, and repetitive clauses which lull a reader into skimming the text.
All of these are a danger to someone who only hits Lit 1 targets, and are also a part of daily life in the US.
Famously vengeful Knicks owner Jim Dolan has long spied on people at his iconic arenas. WIRED goes deep inside the operation that allegedly
New Yorkers have known for a long time that going to a game or concert at the Garden meant surrendering some privacy. That, as you watched the show, the Garden in a real sense watched you. Since 2018, there have been reports of the venue deploying face-recognition technology in what critics believe are increasingly intrusive ways. Owner James Dolan has watch lists of basketball fans who have dared criticize his management. He keeps a close eye on his other venues too, including Radio City Music Hall and the Sphere in Las Vegas. Last March, Dolan’s security team blocked a graphic designer from seeing a concert; the designer, years earlier, had printed and sold a half-dozen T-shirts reading “Ban Dolan.” He has locked out whole firms’ worth of lawyers, even keeping out a mom who was trying to take her 9-year-old Girl Scout to a Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall; the mom’s coworker had pissed him off.
But the true extent of Dolan’s panopticon has only been caught in glimpses. A 2025 lawsuit by a former member of the MSG security team lifted the veil, just a bit. We started our own digging into the Garden's operations. We discovered that Dolan’s security teams obsessively tracked Nina Richards, a trans woman, over a two-year period, monitoring her movements through the venue down to the second. (WIRED is using a pseudonym in this article out of respect for her privacy.) Dolan's biometric surveillance is so extensive that a New York City police officer’s photo was added to a face-recognition database, and a child triggered an alert at one of Dolan’s properties. According to that lawsuit and our sources, Dolan’s head of corporate security takes such an expansive view of his mission that his employees will functionally cosplay as cops—patrolling the neighborhood, snooping on protesters if they happen to be in the area. You don't have to enter a Dolan venue to be under his watch.
For this story, we spoke with seven current and former employees of Dolan's security service. We reviewed some of their confidential internal reports and Signal group chat messages. Behind the scenes, the atmosphere is so rooted in paranoia that former Knicks players warn one another about rooms being bugged, and staffers worry about being watched when they go out to local bars. “People are afraid, top to bottom. You can't look at Mr. Dolan when he's walking past. No, you can't look at him,” one current member of the MSG security team says, adding that his bosses will sometimes say, “You're too close to One—that's what we call Mr. Dolan, ‘Executive One.’”
MSG Entertainment declined to specifically comment on WIRED's reporting about Dolan and the activities of his security teams. A company spokesperson said in a statement that “this story is built on false, misleading and unverified allegations, including claims drawn from lawsuits filed by rapacious litigators. We categorically reject such reckless reporting and are actively evaluating our legal options against WIRED.”
There’s a long and well-documented history of controversy in pro sports’ executive suites. In just the past few years, NBA owners have been accused of being either an open racist, a sex pest, an alleged fraudster, or some combination. Dolan, who owns entertainment venues and sports teams, is at the vanguard of a different, and perhaps more disturbing, trend. Companies are now routinely collecting massive amounts of highly personal data on their customers, from their finger and palm prints to their faces. Executives across industries are enlisting private enforcers and former government intelligence operatives. All of which makes Dolan something of a pioneer, and a proof point. He’s showing that with enough money and motivation, any mogul can create his own deep state and build a sprawling surveillance enterprise with him in the middle.

Strange Bedfellows
It isn't as if Julien wanted this to happen. This--this obsession that he has, it's dangerous. Caring gets you killed. Teor's body, still warm, can speak to that. And yet: the Tachonis boy.
What had he been thinking? Jumping out a window without a second thought, trusting Occtis' word more than gravity. And then, of course, the rest of it; the terrible fear in Occtis voice, the anger, those poison green eyes. His gaze had seemed to pin Julien to the spot. Why do you care? And Julien couldn't answer. Because Occtis was dangerous, surely. Because he was the key to defeating the Tachonis. Because he was the only link to a life Julien knows is dead forever.
But he didn't use any of those (perfectly reasonable, rehearsed) excuses. Instead he choked on his words for about an eternity before blathering something about what Occtis' family might still want with him. It wasn't a lie--I don't want them to get their hands on you--but it wasn't the truth, either. Because the truth, Julien knows, is not that he's afraid of, by losing Occtis, gaining another enemy, but losing another friend. The truth is that Julien has seen the violent bruising around Occtis' neck, the jagged line down his sternum, and aches at the thought of what else such a family could do.
Thankfully, Occtis didn't catch on. Quite the opposite, actually, if the flash of hurt in his eyes was to be believed. But as Occtis spat dismissals in barely-cloaked terror, Julien wondered if this was really any better. He could barely admit his...affection, obsession, whatever--to himself; voicing it to Occtis was out of the question. But Julien could tell that when Occtis said the only two people who care about me, he believed it. And once again, against all logic, Julien ached.
So he followed. Of course he followed. And thank the dead gods he did--if not for Julien, Occtis might still be frozen in place, staring at the man that--Julien is beginning to realize--has hurt him far more than his current scars belie. It's such a far cry from the sharp-witted, terrifying necromancer Julien's been traveling with that a new kind of hatred for Primus Tachonis enters his heart. When he kills that man, he will do it for his father, his home, his honor--yes. But he will also do it for the life of Occtis Tachonis, who trembled under Julien's arm the whole way back to the Fang house.
And now--here they are. Occtis still convinced that Julien sees him as a tool at best, Julien still despairing every time catching those poison eyes sends a thrill down his spine. Orbiting each other like twin stars. Julien tries to kill this caring, he really does. There is every possibility that Occtis will be dead tomorrow, one of his many enemies catching up to him, and Julien cannot afford to fall apart again if that happens. It seems, though, that Julien's affection takes after the boy himself: it simply will not die. Occtis Tachonis is dangerous, heartless, terrified and terrifying. He hates Julien's guts and believes Julien feels the same. And, shapers damn him, Julien Davinos doesn't care. He wants to follow this beautiful, wretched creature into realms beyond, if it means keeping him safe. He wants to never see that petrified look on Occtis' face again. He wants--damn it all--to hold him, just that, without the threat of imminent death.
Julien Davinos wants a lot of things he shouldn't. Of course, he thinks, as they prepare to leave the city, that's never stopped me before. So what if this time, it might really be his death? He catches those terrible, lovely eyes again, and thinks--what a way to go.

Ok so thanks for voting on this but i need you to reblog it too
every time a young gay person quits smoking or makes the decision that they want to quit, the sun shines on us all with the promise of happiness and beauty.
i appreciate everybody that’s sharing the sentiment that it’s good for anyone to quit smoking (it is) but i very specifically wanted to highlight and encourage LGBTQ youth because lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are about 1.5 to 2.5 times more likely to smoke cigarettes than heterosexual people, and the statistics for transgender people are even higher than cisgender people. this is due to tobacco companies marketing heavily and aggressively to LGBTQ communities and exploiting the higher rates of mental health struggles prevalent in our communities.
i want and hope to see all my LGTBQ people live long, healthy, fulfilled lives despite how predatory and punishing this world can be. you should stay around as long as you can to make it a little better in your own way.
I wanna specifically shoutout trans men here because back in the day (I don’t know if it’s still prevalent) there was quite a common rumour going around that smoking could make your voice deeper, which meant a huge upstick in young trans men taking up smoking.
So, if any trans men are being told about this, it’s not true!! Smoking will not change your voice, at least not until you’re about forty years down the line and you’ve already irreparably destroyed your lungs and throat and mouth and pretty much every other organ in your body. When you hear heavy smokers with deeper, scratchier voices it is literally because their vocal cords have been ruined. This is not a passive effect of smoking, it is a very very damaging one!
It’s simply not worth it! There will be no meaningful changes except terrible ones. Voice training will do a lot more for you than cigarettes will, I promise that the people urging you to start smoking as a voice training method do not have your best interests at heart!
(And you know what, this also goes for not eating due to the idea that starving yourself will decrease your chest size. Like with smoking, there will be no meaningful changes except terrible ones. Your body is worth so much more than that and there will always be healthier alternatives!)
I wanna see trans people thrive, and one day when things get better and you’re able to start your transition, you’ll want a body that will last as long as possible so you can enjoy every little moment of your life. Please take care of yourself!!
As for trans women and other trans people taking estrogen HRT, smoking has been proven to reduce or even cancel out the effects of estrogen on the body. If you quit smoking, your transition will be faster, fuller, and smoother. I know that it's hard, but your boobs will thank you!
(Btw, afaik smoking only has this effect on estrogen from HRT. Estrogen that AFAB bodies produce naturally is not affected, so smoking is still bad for trans men)
In addition (and this applies to all trans people), smoking increases risks of complications during surgery, so doctors might refuse to let you get whatever surgeries you want if you smoke. They'll at least tell you to quit for a while beforehand, which will be easier to do if you'd already quit to begin with.
The not smoking before surgery thing is no joke. I met a guy once who stopped smoking at the time his surgical team recommended and they STILL had to call off the surgery because his oxygen was too low. Can you imagine finally getting your GCS/top surgery/FFS date but then waking up and it’s still there?? (IIRC he’s fully quit now and he got his top surgery with no issues because of it!)
I think also in that conversation, I had a couple people tell me that the book The Easy Way to Quit Smoking is, despite the gimmicky title, genuinely helpful.
If quitting for yourself seems too abstract and it’s hard to care, think about everyone around you. Someone with asthma or migraines will breathe easier if they’re not risking an attack from standing near you.
Lastly, some queer history: a 90’s tobacco marketing campaign that targeted gay men was literally called Project SCUM. That’s what they think of us. Don’t give them your money.
The tobacco industry’s marketing has “systematically targeted” the LGBTQ community for decades…
There's a different kind of disparity in the LGBT community that is often overlooked: disproportionately high smoking rates.
Genuinely curious, what makes you so interested in rot and decay? I notice it's in a lot of your art, most of your fruit people were paired with a rotting, moldy version. I think you had some mushroom people drawing like that too iirc. And your newest piece is a decaying mermaid. What draws you into those themes?
All your art is beautiful and amazing btw!
It’s kinda silly, but I had a very religious upbringing and was taught I’d live for eternity and that I must devote my life to god in order to gain a spot in heaven - which sounded like absolute purgatory to my child self. I didn’t even ask to be born, and now you’re telling me I have to keep this bit up FOREVER? A lifetime is already overwhelming, let alone eternity.
As a cope I got really into death, rot and the natural cycle of life. Let there be a conclusion to this short window of existence
Also - isn’t it kinda messed up to have kids if you believe in the concept of hell? You pull an innocent soul from the abyss, and now they run the risk of eternal damnation.
The whole “It’s our duty as gods chosen people to create families in his honor” spiel just sounds like pushing the consequences onto your offspring. Like those chain emails that say you’ll die if you don’t send it out to 5 new people.
