I will defend Kali till I die idgaf. The suicide pact with Jane wasn’t with malicious intent, it was because Kali was also used and abused and didn’t know any better. She didn’t believe there was a way to keep living without fear of being taken and used again. She just wanted to save the next generation from the horrors her and Jane were subjected to as children. She wanted to end the horrific cycle of violence and abuse. Kali was pure at heart, and was simply a traumatized young girl.

She truly believed that ending her life with Henry and even El's would be the only way to end this cycle of abuse and torture.

Remember that she escaped thanks to her powers and lived relatively free for nearly a decade before her new found-family was brutally murdered in front of her eyes. They had snatched and killed her hope, so I don't blame her for thinking death is the only way out

seeing a lot of blatant disgusting jokes about els suicide, motivated by the fact that mike didn’t end up with will. tweets that are supported by thousands of likes, so its not like they are stragglers.

It’s kind of upsetting, el is not treated with appropriate sensitivity, because fundamentally we did just watch an abuse victim die/isolate herself to escape her abuse at 16. I know this apathy is linked to misogyny, I dont think people would think els death was a laughing matter if she was a boy, or certainly she wouldn’t be downplayed for another boy.

It makes me cringe and its embarrassing, but it kind of makes me love her more in a way. El is subjected to so much shit, in show and the audience, I cant help but feel overwhelming empathy and protectiveness over her, she’s just so innocent and undeserving of the cruelty she faces because she received a form of love from someone is genuinely bizarre. Much like the duffers, the subgroup on twitter “treats her like a machine”, like she didn’t matter, sparing no empathy for her, and downplaying her significance for their own means. Life Imitates Art.

No matter what, her ending remains ambiguous, its not something you can sincerely use against her(not that you should want to), and she’s still going down as one of the most (if not the most) memorable and important pieces of ST, not what they want her to be which is some NPC who got in the way of b*lr. Shes bigger than that, bigger than stranger things itself(that includes dudlliam byers…sorry). Please check yourself, close ao3 and read up on some feminist theory or something if you feel this aggro towards a fictional girl.

I have known Stranger Things was misogynistic since the pilot episode when Nancy wanted to have sex with her boyfriend that she really liked and Barb was like “This isn’t you🥺” and we as the audience were supposed to agree with Barb. And then Nancy was narratively punished for this via Barb’s death
