AuDHD is an informal word that refers to someone who has both Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). For many years, people could not be diagnosed with both illnesses together. Today, we know that they can and frequently do exist. ADHD might prefer spontaneity and variation, but autism frequently favors stability and routines. These seemingly opposing characteristics may exist in the same person. Each individual with AuDHD is unique. Understanding an individual's strengths and challenges is essential for providing effective support. A diagnosis does not put someone in a box. Rather, it facilitates better understanding, accommodations, and care.
