i like that the movie showed how important it is to have people around you that don't know shit about science — because they can and will save you when you get stuck.

when you know a lot about a hyperspecific topic and are presented with hyperspecific problems, you get lost in your brain trying to solve them. you go to a complicated solution first, and then a more complicated one, and when that one doesn't make sense either, you create something even more complicated.

What if Rocky had a crazy strong accent, either from a long time in space on his own or just because of where hes from, so when Grace gets good at talking to Rocky without the translater and starts talking to other Eridians he doesn't even recognise theyre speaking the same language as rocky?

What if Rocky did develop some crazy accent while in space alone, and as soon as he got back to Erid he switched back to the normal accent, causing all of Graces' computer translations to only work with this one accent that literally does not exist
