Daniel and Armand have a peculiar rhythm when they speak to each other. They can converse like any other two people, but there is a noticeable pattern that emerges whenever one of them wants something from the other, or simply familiarity emerges in their dialogue. Two minds moving toward the same point in parallel.
They do not exactly finish each otherās sentences. They seem to read each other well enough though.
Armand: Let me help you finish that job. Daniel: Yeah? A: Love between vampires can be one thing, or it can be countless things. D: I will never love... A: Like Lestat and Sofia. I want to be your maker. D: Finish the thought, Armand. A: I want to give you half your life back. D: Lestat and Sofia. A: Help you walk in the sun. I knew her as Gabriella. She's Lestat's mother. D: What? A: Lestat lays with his mother.
Armand: It was wrong of Louis to enter your memories yesterday. You were invited here as a guest. Daniel: Cell phones. A: You were rude, but he crossed a line. D: Artificial intelligence crunching improbable data. A: I offer my apology... D: How do you hide from the cloud? A: On his behalf. We should probably wait for him. D: Probably. A: He'll awaken when the sun sleeps. Your cell phones make you slaves to your fetishes and data retrieval is primarily about profits, so I suspect no one at Amazon is trying to sell us blenders.
Armandās dialogue is continuous, cumulative. Daniel, however, interrupts and redirects. His words function almost like punctuation against Armandās longer, more structured sentences. He does not follow the path Armand takes. Instead, he jumps directly to the important point, cutting away all that is unnecessary. Daniel tends to move toward specific statements, because he demands clarity and specifics. He is impatient. Armand's language connects pieces precisely because Daniel's language separates them.
Daniel extracts. Armand explains.
Armand speaks in layers, Daniel peels the layers away.
Their rhythm creates a familiarity that borders on mind-reading, they understand the direction of each otherās thoughts, Daniel's pattern expresses this familiarity even more so. He is more active in this familiarity because his lack of words shows understanding of Armand, which is such a subconscious act for the person who lost his memories of said familiarity, but its trace lingers.
There is also distance in Danielās style. Daniel gives the node of the thought rather than the path that led him there. His ability to jump straight to the point is part of his emotional guardedness. He is highly observant, quick. He analyses rather than reveals.
But there is progression from season 2 to season 3. Daniel is vulnerable all the time. He is someone who needs gentleness, he is emotionally incandescent, always close to the surface, always on the verge of something breaking through.
His pattern also indicates that Daniel is closed off from Armand, he is emotionally guarded, which just brings this vulnerability to the surface. He is afraid.
They work perfectly together because Daniel identifies the missing pieces or important details and Armand gives context, history, and connection, which is surprising for his character. There is an innate predictability in the way they talk, which hints at past dm as much as everything else, but this level of subconscious intimacy is fascinating.
someone on twitter said this gave "they saw you from across the bar and they HATE your vibe" and i have to agree
I do think some part of this disproportionate anger we're seeing directed at south american countries stems a bit from a failure to admit that a country can be exploited while still experiencing the same flaws that first world countries experience. That being exploited doesn't make you noble and incapable of evil. There's racism in exploited countries. There's a ton of fascism in exploited countries (it helps the exploitation run smoothly). We have the same societal flaws that exist in the first world, they're just obscured by the fact that the minimum wage is currently around $250 dollars. And I'm not trying to say that having racism and fascism in any country is okay, but we should maybe question why we think global south countries have a moral obligation of being socially flawless (according to first world standards of what is and isn't socially acceptable at that) to deserve some fucking dignity. Exploitation is wrong, full stop.
We're also in the unique position to be able to experience the same type of rationalization that allowed for exploitation and interventionism to happen in arab countries for so long with nobody batting an eye. "But they're homophobic" "They're misogynists" "They're jihadists" are just rationalizations to justify the unjustifiable.
And I mean, I'm reticent to concede the point that those flaws are entirely our fault, considering that every time south american countries get close to socialism and progress the CIA intervenes, tortures and kills our activists, and puts on fascist leaders. Sure, some people already agreed with the last dictatorship, but they killed everyone who disagreed and was motivating change. If they're not even giving us a chance to get better I resent the implication that that means they should get to exploit us even harder
Book Armand: Iām only desired for my perceived boyish innocence which I very intentionally play up, but I despise everyone who falls for it. Such is my fate.
Book Daniel: Wow I look at you and see some type of freakazoid as yet undiscovered by science. An abomination, if you will.
Book Armand: stalking you stalking you stalking you wear this necklace iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou

āThere's a huge relationship that we have not seen any of, which I just love. And I hope that we will see it, you know. Which is Armand and Lestat. There's like a huge relationship there. There's like a whole world and a whole dynamic that has been an undercurrent, y'know, particularly in Lestat's life, that we have not fully examined for pretty specific reasons, for needed reasons, and some practical reasons which is locations. So we have to be realistic about locations that we can film in. So I've just been rereading the books this past week and it just reiterates to me how much I love Armand as a character. He's just such a crazy, wonderful character, and there is a lot left to explore thereā

Iām still not over Armandās confession at the park. Even if Daniel has no memory of their past chase-years, the impact it is bound to have on him is immeasurable. Imagine someone recounts your failures in life, all the dirty moments youād rather not have witnesses to. Imagine youāve unknowingly had someone see you in so many embarrassing moments, from picking your nose to being a downright shit person. And yet, they admit it without disgust and apparently love you? By the sheer power of that kind of devotion, you might start falling for them too.
I'd be down with more "modern witches" if they were less all about indigenous cultural appropriation and more about bubbling cauldrons and cackling into the night
