things I won’t let ai take away from human writers
em dash
“not x, not y, but z”
short sentence stacking as a stylistic choice
none of these belong to ai. these are all what human writers have been writing since day one, way before ai was invented. ai was trained to mimic how human writers write — so em dash, not x not y but z and short sentence stacking would never have been used by ai at all if ai hadn’t learned and mimicked them from human writers.
no, you are not “fighting against ai” by accusing every work that has em dash, not x not y but z or short sentence stacking in it as ai-generated, you are helping ai harm the writing community by engaging in witch hunt and scaring human writers away from creating/sharing their works for fear of being wrongly accused of using ai.
speculations, accusations and ai witch hunt harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.

Jack Abbot first heard about it on the police scanner.
The static, then the voices growing louder as communication went hazy with numerous officers frantically reporting for duty, an undercurrent of anxiety lacing their voices. A strange virus spreading alarmingly fast among the people, they said, before their voices were cut off by screaming – either their own, or others’.
Jack hastily ripped the comforter off his body, old reflexes washing the tiredness away completely. He stumbled to put on the prosthetic, then dressed in the clothes that still laid discarded on the floor from after his latest shift. His phone didn’t have any new notifications, yet, he noted as he checked it, but there wasn’t any reason to worry. Half his friends were asleep, the other half too busy working in the Pitt. The news had probably not even reached the television channels, or any other that sane and normal people frequented.
Two bags, full of necessities waited for him when he yanked the closet door open. He’d never been more thankful to always be over-prepared. Granola bars, flashlights, batteries, a gun, a few switchblades and more medical equipment than strictly necessary. His go-bags.
Jack just didn’t think he’d ever need them for the start of the end of the world.

i'm thinking... jack abbot in a zombie apocalypse. he'd be the perfect companion. he's got army AND medical knowledge, ER especially so he'd do good under pressure. his hobbies include joining the swat team on operations. what more would you need??
