The Grimm Future of the Internet

Looking Ahead
My name is Ben Calantas a student at Devry University. I’m going to school for a Multimedia Design and Development with an emphasis in Graphic and Multimedia Design. I born and raised in Bakersfield, California and now live in Dallas, Tx I am a veteran of the armed services with 4 years in the United States Marines and currently serving with the Air Force as a videographer. I married my beautiful wife in April and she is also going to school.
I started course MDD410 emerging multimedia technologies in September. My initial expectations of this class was I was going to be introduced to currently technologies and talk with like minded individuals about computers, multimedia and how we use them to our culture together. I was motivated that I would be able to move closer to my goal of having my bachelors. Each week I was hoping to have a chance to create products that I can to help strengthen my portfolio in the marketplace, especially with relevant and emerging technology in multimedia world today.
I learned many new ways and was reintroduced to other types of technology. Prior to my break from college I had a chance to work with 3ds Max and found that combined with 3D printing is a great tool to have. We had a project where we would get to manipulated a 3d object in 3DS max, this reminded me the excitement of knowing where design can take you. We also discussed things such as privacy in social networking and the interaction of big data. These issues were very relevant too me because as I am taking this class I am training in network security.
We discussed where wearable technology such as Google glass and Smart watches. How using this technology can be able to create a new form of experience in the real world. Even with creating our own interpretation of an interface that is view through a wearable like Google glass. Staying in line with design in current technology we also designed an application interface for a mobile platform like iPhones or Android phones. I was able to use this and add to my graphic design portfolio.
Over the past eight weeks I was able to learn and bring with me moving forward into the tech world. It is to always continue to learn. From when I first tore apart my first computer to when I opened photoshop elements for the first time. The world of design, technology and how we use it to communicate will always change. It’s a dynamic world where to remain employable and relevant you need to know what is the next step around the corner and be ready to take on that challenge. Each week we talked about different element of technology and how it relates to how we as design professionals should know and understand it.
As I go into my next fork in the road and where it leads me. I know that I must be ready and willing to embrace changes and emerging technology. As a design and technology professional I must maintain my thirst for knowledge and growth. Always be a constant professional in all I do while looking for ways to know how the newest technology may effect my work. Regardless if it is good or bad I must stay informed and stay involved.

Mobile projection brings art into the street. Similar and more high tech projects like 3d projection mapping gives artist the ability to display artwork on a grand scale and in often times gives the view the ability to interact with it. In some countries the day does not end when the sun goes down but comes alive. The clever use of projectors gives a unique experience that can only be offered from designer to spectator. I would love to one day do the same during a major holiday like halloween or even put up a Christmas show with projectors.
“Unit 78020 conducts cyber espionage against Southeast Asian military, diplomatic, and economic targets. The targets include government entities in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam as well as international bodies such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).” http://www.threatconnect.com/camerashy/ “The inherent unfairness…
The war on protecting data is an international affair. We live in a digital world where financial information is stored behind encrypted file vaults and elaborate computer networks. Hackers finding new ways to crack open these files vaults and decode our information. Being a student of information design and network architecture, Ive gained a new understanding that great design is more then just the visual. Quality programming can protect user information from being compromised. Publications like this is a growing subject as people are starting to understand how the digital world is being manipulated on a world scale.
▶ Drone racing has its first champion - YouTube, via Justin P.
R/C drone racing is a pass time where people take quadcopter drones that can go up to speeds of 70 mph equipped with cameras that transmit video to the pilot via goggles. The nation’s best gathered in Sacramento, Ca for the first ever US national drone-racing championships July 17th-18th. Using new and old technology has enabled a new form of spectator sport. Pilots race and freestyle fly their way to a win. Similar to another competition the Red Bull Air Race, its growing in popularity among enthusiasts. Being a drone pilot myself I enjoy the nimble art of R/C piloting.
Its online dating services are profitable, but, as with most Internet giants, its business model has its risks.
In an interesting but logical move the Match group filed for initial public offering October 16th. Platform applications like tinder have become a popular for of quick simple interactions. A similar app called JOBR lets a user quickly browse through jobs and swipe left if they aren’t interested or right if they would like to apply. Companies can quickly reply to applicants within the in-app chat. This rise has become a trend in quick responses and with a simple interface on the mobile platform. I’ve used JOBR before and I enjoy the simple platform.
